Hello there and thank you for your development of Gajim, the chat messenger. I have upgraded Debian to new version and now I can't see my icons on the right side. For example, I don't see clearly the icons, they are kind of missing.

  7. Louis2

and pasting doesn't work anymore. I wonder why. Is there anybody who can help me with icons and pasting the file?

  8. chud

Louis2, you mean drag and drop a file?

  9. lovetox

icons will be fixed with the next release

  10. Louis2

    > Louis2, you mean drag and drop a file? No, I mean when I copy the picture, let's say in another program by using copy and then pasting it.

  11. Louis2

    > icons will be fixed with the next release Okay, but is there anything like I can do myself? I am not using a Gajim from the repository. I am using it from the Debian distribution.

  12. lovetox

what version of Gajim are you using?

  13. Louis2

    > what version of Gajim are you using? 2.1.1 (Unix/Linux)

  14. Louis2

I'm just using official version from Debian 13, I don't know how can I install any other version, I would install if I know how.

  15. lovetox

you can install Gajim from flathub

  16. lovetox

    https://flathub.org/apps/org.gajim.Gajim

  17. lovetox

then the drag&drop should be fixed, and probably also the icon problems

  31. Louis2

    > are you using gajim to manage your gold mine? Yes

  32. Louis2

    > in ur terminal after u complete the setup process in ur terminal Thank you, it takes a long time. I would be rather happy if I can install it from source myself and run it from the source directory.

  33. lovetox

no, dont do that, this will lead to dependency problems

  34. lovetox

flatpak is the way to go

  35. Louis2

    > flatpak is the way to go will follow this advice, I will try.

  36. Louis2

    > `flatpak install flathub org.gajim.Gajim` Still downloading on 50 mbit/s, it is 41% -- that is really slow

  37. chud

Flatpak is slow for me too, on any connection

  38. chud

And it's always been like that. They don't care.

  39. lovetox

chud, so step up and sponsor them some bandwidth

  40. chud

I think red hat has more resources than me

Flatpak version did not recognize my old accounts, just one, others are forgotten or disappeared, and my spaces... lost

  45. debacle

Louis2 Don't know, if that fits your needs and uses cases: I run Debian testing on my private computer with the latest Gajim from Debian experimental (2.3.4-1), and Debian stable on my work computer with the Gajim version that comes with stable (2.1.1-2). Works well for me. Flatpak is not my cup of tea.

  47. mesonium

Louis2: you've migrated your old repo Gajim config?

  49. Louis2

    > Louis2: you've migrated your old repo Gajim config? That wasn't given to me to do.

    disaster to me

    > I am just following advice. Now, because database was upgraded, I can't go back. But also cannot use plugins. No backup? Maybe somewhere? At least an older one?

  53. mesonium

    Louis2: https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/blob/master/flatpak/README.md#migrate-your-data

  54. mesonium

I think this should go to the FAQ :)

  55. debacle

mesonium I.e. the data of Louis2 is not lost, but only not copied to the new place? Good for them!

  56. mesonium

    > Now, because database was upgraded, I can't go back. Louis2: no worries, Gajim always makes a backup before upgrading the database.

  57. mesonium

Maybe the Flatpak should offer a Welcome Screen with explanations how to migrate old data?

  58. Louis2

    > mesonium I.e. the data of Louis2 is not lost, but only not copied to the new place? Good for them! Thanks, I got it

  59. Louis2

The chat line (entry box) is now just one line, and i needed it larger, not narrower, is there any way to enlarge it?

  60. lovetox

hitting the ENTER key doesnt work for you?

  61. lovetox

    or rather SHIFT+ENTER

  62. Louis2

    Good to know, thanks lovetox

  63. Eduard T

Shift + Enter is pretty common among all apps
