Gajim - 2025-08-21

Hi all. My wife and I both use Gajim on Windows and conversations on android. We recently had to re-install gajim because we were on an old, old version and OMEMO stopped working. The newest, clean install of Gajim is great except it doesn't sync messages exchanged while gajim is offline. I believe this is indicative of an issues with MAM, but I don't really know. Could someone point me in the right direction?

Click your account avatar, on the page there is a menu, search the archiving preferences menu, and check if the dropdown says always

But a client should probably hint a user at misconfigured/unfortunate server settings :)

When will gajim enter trixie-backports?

It's not even in unstable yet, I assume because pygobject 3.52 isn't either (experimental only).

Hey! Gajim's layout is mirrored for me, and I can't find a way to undo this. This may be related to my computer's region being in a RTL country; I know I had the same issue with inkscape. Is there a setting to undo this somewhere?

not in Gajim, search with your favorite internet search for "change rtl direction on Linux/Windows"

I don't get what you mean by that. The issue isn't the text messages, it's the entire program's layout. The setting's button is on the right, the users are on the left.

optimisticlucio, thats how it usually is with these languages, they dont just switch the text, the whole interface is switched

How do I remove MUCs from roster again? Its always hard to remember how to do it

in any case, I dont see any menu button

alright i'm pissed off enough by memory leaks or whatever race conditions cause this

i'm willing to put out a 0.05 XMR (~13$, ~15$ if it goes up again soon) bounty for anyone who manages to fix all of them

if its not literal hundreds, i'd pay 1$ per fixed memory leak or race condition

anything that gives motivation for tracking them down and getting rid of them

vlad: 432 MB RES memory, 5.5% of total RAM w/o swap. Could be less, but what's the matter? :)

the matter is that something causes very annoying lag after gajim runs for a while

constantly happens, requires a restart, no idea why

and 432M is kinda a lot, i'm not sure if this really is a memory leak because it should be bigger, but its probably a race condition somewhere
