Gajim - 2025-08-08

Hi. I think I shared this here before but wasn't able to follow up - my Gajim's UI is pretty sluggish. UI elements don't update until I bring my mouse over them, text I type or edit takes very long to update...

This is gajim-nightly v20250613-1 on Debian Testing

(Yes, that's somewhat old, but I've been facing this issue for about 6 months now, if not more.) ✏

Do u have Nvidia?

I had something like that with Nvidia

concerto: could be an issue with gtk+your hardware. Try flatpak to get the newest gtk+gajim combination

Yeah I had the same issue

It's only reproducible on Nvidia weirdly enough

Flatpak + gnome 48 Wayland on Nvidia rtx1060+ seems to work alright

But for legacy cards under that I think that's when I had the issue for some reason

i think older nvidia cards have worse wayland support in general afaik

i daily drove a 1050ti for a bit though and haven't had any problems with that, but that was like

a few years ago now :p

I think the 1050ti has the new GSP thingo

There were maybe a few other things that had input delay because of waiting for draw? Maybe I forget it's been a few years now

Might be worth checking out to see if the issue is reproducible with noveau

Instead of the proprietary driver

Performance might not be good but might be a good way to check if it's the drivers causing the issue

in Gajim im trying to create a room with files only. I do not want ppl to be able to talk. I have selected permission to chat option but ppl can still type

Try to kick all users let them rejoin and check if they still can speak

If that does not work ask in the prosody room for help

i found another gajim issue, if i scroll up to some old file and start downloading it, then scroll up/down, it stops downloading.

this might apply to workspace/chat switching or other actions too, file downloads don't run in the background

hmm worked for me in a quick test

though if its a file that has no preview, downloaded and not downloaded look kind of similiar

if its downloaded it has that folder symbol

and if its a long download, you switch away and back, it does not know that it already loads in the background and will show you to download again

this will be improved once we implement stateless file sharing

it wont show you a download status bar anymore
