> I hadn't thought of this, but what if I were to leave windows and go to linux, would %APPDATA%\Gajim even work as a ~/.local/share/gajim ? shodan: Some files would have to go to `~/.config/gajim`, but it should just work
-
hannibal
For the backup, `%APPDATA%\Gajim` should be added to the path list of your system's backup software.

Wasn't this supposed to be fixed as of https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/merge_requests/1155 which was merged 3, while 2.3.3 was tagged 2 weeks ago.✎ -

I am failing to run the current Git version of Gajim on MacOS. It fails to launch like this: ``` 2025-07-31 15:05:04 (W) gajim AV dependency test failed: Namespace Farstream not available Traceback (most recent call last): File "/Users/user/src/gajim/gajim/gtk/application.py", line 372, in _handle_local_options self._startup() ~~~~~~~~~~~~~^^ File "/Users/user/src/gajim/gajim/gtk/application.py", line 227, in _startup if not self._init_core(): ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~^^ File "/Users/user/src/gajim/gajim/common/application.py", line 113, in _init_core app.connections[account] = Client(account) ~~~~~~^^^^^^^^^ File "/Users/user/src/gajim/gajim/common/client.py", line 107, in __init__ self._create_client() ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~^^ File "/Users/user/src/gajim/gajim/common/client.py", line 174, in _create_client self._client.set_lang(get_rfc5646_lang()) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ``` It doesn't look like there is a Homebrew package for Farstream available, which makes this very difficult to install/manage. Could you make Farstream optional or pull it in only at runtime? I assume it is used for video conferencing? I'd rather have Gajim without video conferencing on Mac than not have Gajim at all.

elfchen: looks like your nbxmpp is not up to date
-
cal0pteryx
Regarding farstream: yes, it should be totally optional
-
elfchen
You mean I would need to get a development version of nbxmpp? ``` > pip install --upgrade nbxmpp Requirement already satisfied: nbxmpp in ./venv/lib/python3.13/site-packages (6.2.0) Requirement already satisfied: precis-i18n>=1.0.0 in ./venv/lib/python3.13/site-packages (from nbxmpp) (1.1.1) Requirement already satisfied: packaging in ./venv/lib/python3.13/site-packages (from nbxmpp) (25.0) Requirement already satisfied: idna in ./venv/lib/python3.13/site-packages (from nbxmpp) (3.10) Requirement already satisfied: PyGObject>=3.42.0 in ./venv/lib/python3.13/site-packages (from nbxmpp) (3.52.3) Requirement already satisfied: pycairo>=1.16 in ./venv/lib/python3.13/site-packages (from PyGObject>=3.42.0->nbxmpp) (1.28.0) ```

elfchen: The traceback looks like Gajim tries to set it's stream language, which is only available in an unreleased nbxmpp version. Are you running Gajim 2.3.3 or master?
-
elfchen
master
-
elfchen
So what's the fastest way to get the unreleased nbxmpp into my venv? I can clone the repo and then what do I need to run? `pip install .` or so?
👍 1 -
elfchen
Yep, that was it. Writing this with Gajim on master now. Thanks!
-
cal0pteryx
There is a small section for running on master in the wiki ``` pip3 install --upgrade git+https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/python-nbxmpp.git pip3 install --upgrade git+https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/omemo-dr.git ```

How are you testing if it blinks?

The window must not be focused

Patrick
it is not focused during the test. she is in another window, i message and it doesn't blink so she doesn't see anything until she manually focuses the window

Does she see a windows notification?
-

Maybe she disabled notifications in prefernces

Has anyone here figured a way to incorporate a dialer with cheogram on desktop?
-
warrior
The problem with SIP is that it doesn't call into PSTN. It only does SIP to SIP calls

Why not ask in the cheogram room

I did

No idea then maybe this can be disabled in Windows somewhere

Hi, I heared in the biboumi room that gajim has a special fix to work around multi line messages in biboumi. Does anyone here have any more info, and ideally what should biboumi do to work without special fixes from gajim?
-
lovetox
Why are you asking?
-
luca
I was looking through biboumi in the context of multiline support (see https://codeberg.org/poezio/biboumi/pulls/3506 ) and when in Rome might as well fix stuff
-

Hi, is it possible for multiple Gajim clients on different machines to have which chats I'm in synchronized between them?
-
slondr
also hmm why did my username have an underscore at the end
-
slondr
I'm seeing some things online claiming that it should "just work" by default if my server supports XEP-0313, which Gajim claims it does in the feature list
-
slondr
I think I figured it out, I'd joined in the 2nd client from jabber.member.fsf.org instead of just member.fsf.org
-
slondr
It seems weird that it would even let me do that but in a way where the accounts aren't joined? but oh well lol
