Gajim - 2025-07-14

    > normally i use note to self to transfer info from my desktop to my phone or the other way around, but if you dont have a smartphone or any device where you transfer these data to, why use Gajim as a note taking app? Cloud storage

  2. lovetox

chud: but it is not. Messages encrypted with omemo can not be decrypted later again. So it's undecryptable garbage on the server from the second you press send

  3. chud

Oh, I thought you were talking about unencrypted or pgp encrypted.

  4. chud

Although even then, in case with my server at least, my messages to myself are not synchronized for whatever mysterious reason...

  5. resoli

    FYI: https://dev.gajim.org gives error 500

Just here to say congrats for the 2.3 series! Using it on Windows and it fixes dead keys issue that was preventing me to use my layout of choice (ergol.org for the curious). Two things that are bothering me though: - the render quality when I change screen, the font is a bit blurry on my other screen - all the windows are created on the main screen, even when the main window is on the other screen

Geobomatic: hi, for 2. we have a issue Tracking it. For 1. Please open one when our gitlab is up again

Hi, just updated to 2.3.2 on Manjaro, and the tray icon is missing. I'm getting : > 2025-07-14 13:47:40 (E) gajim.c.tray.linux | g-dbus-error-quark: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name is not activatable (2) DE is openbox. Is this a known issue ?

  10. stefan

    hi, Theres 2.3.3 already?

  11. Polarity

Are there any Gajim support channels?

  12. benjo

@stefan: Yes, but it's in testing on arch/manjaro. Giving a test to the flatpak version right now.

  13. Polarity

    > Are there any Gajim support channels? Anyways, I am unable to figure out how to use Gajim's implementation of XEP-0373 (New implementation of OpenPGP), I cannot find any way to manage keys, unlike when using XEP-0027 (Older implementation of PGP). Version of Gajim: 2.3.2 (Unix/Linux)

  14. lovetox

What do you want to manage?

  15. Polarity

    > What do you want to manage? I want to manage PGP keys for encryption in the Gajim client according to the XEP-0373 implementation, I want to use the "OpenPGP" plugin that allows usage of "OpenPGP" encryption in the Gajim client.

  16. lovetox

Ok I'm guessing you want to use an existing key of your own?

  17. Polarity

    > Ok I'm guessing you want to use an existing key of your own? Yes. currently as a test in my "Note for myself" channel.

  18. Polarity

    > Ok I'm guessing you want to use an existing key of your own? Yes, as a test in my "Note for myself" channel.

  19. lovetox

We don't support that, gajim creates its own key

  20. Polarity

    what

  21. Polarity

Why was it made that way? It just does not make sense to me.

  22. lovetox

It does to people not interested in creating PGP keys

  23. lovetox

Also from a application point of view I don't want to ask the user for their PGP password

  24. Polarity

Alright, makes complete sense now, I forgot that I am the weird one.

  25. Polarity

I do not see where I can manage OpenPGP keys though, only OMEMO.

  26. lovetox

You open a chat select openpgp then click the shield icon

  27. lovetox

But depending on how you installed the plugin the dialog might be broken

  28. Polarity

    > You open a chat select openpgp then click the shield icon There have to be other participants in the room, right?

  29. lovetox

You will only see keys published from other people

  30. lovetox

    It works exactly like omemo

  31. Polarity

    > But depending on how you installed the plugin the dialog might be broken I originally installed it when I first installed Gajim via the plugin manager, then I installed it from the github mirror of gajim-plugins, both have displayed nothing other than the window and some minor details.

  32. lovetox

Not sure what you expect it is the same key dialog as with omemo

  33. lovetox

There is nothing to configure except trusting another device

  34. Polarity

    > Not sure what you expect it is the same key dialog as with omemo Alright, the plugin is broken for me, I will try cloning it from the Gitlab repo once it is available. It just shows the dialogue window of PGP (XEP-0027), but without any managing elements.

  35. lovetox

I can take a look later

  36. ironcastor

    hello

  37. ironcastor

the gajim logo/icon doesn't show when minimised to the panel/launcher on rpi os

  38. ironcastor

    this is v1.7.3

  39. Codimp

1.7.3 is more than 2 years old, update it to see if it solve the issue

  40. gyatt

    Kinda based

  41. ironcastor

    > 1.7.3 is more than 2 years old, update it to see if it solve the issue it's the latest version in my package repos

  42. ironcastor

i guess i'll get the flatpak

  43. danielstein

    Gitlab down?

  44. lovetox

    yes

  45. lovetox

Polarity, did you try sending a message? This generates the key and then you maybe see the options you want

  46. Polarity

    > Polarity, did you try sending a message? This generates the key and then you maybe see the options you want Sending an unencrypted message or trying sending an OpenPGP message? I have tried both, attempting to send an OpenPGP message resulted in a "No trusted keys found" popup.

  47. debacle

What again was the way to complete a user name in a group chat now? It used to be TAB, but now it is ...?

  48. Polarity

    > What again was the way to complete a user name in a group chat now? It used to be TAB, but now it is ...? I just tried using TAB, it works for me.

  49. Polarity

    > What again was the way to complete a user name in a group chat now? It used to be TAB, but now it is ...? I just tried using TAB, it works for me on Gajim.

  50. lovetox

    typing @ debacle

  51. Polarity

    > What again was the way to complete a user name in a group chat now? It used to be TAB, but now it is ...? I just tried using TAB after writing "@", it works for me on Gajim.

  52. lovetox

Polarity, yeah and if you click the shield icon it opens a small dialog which says "Public Keys for JID"

  53. debacle

Thanks lovetox! I already knew this but forgot :-( In fact `@` is a very good choice, IMHO!

  54. Polarity

    > Polarity, yeah and if you click the shield icon it opens a small dialog which says "Public Keys for JID" But it does not show any keys. Perhaps it will work if I actually message someone.

  55. lovetox

yes you need to do that with a contact who has keys published

  56. lovetox

    as you would with omemo

  57. lovetox

here you can add my test acc if you want
