Gajim - 2025-07-04

  1. pun

Any gajim release out of these (https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/releases) that supports audio and video calls?

  2. resoli

Hello, I am trying to run Gajim (linux flatpak) under a different locale as explained in https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/wikis/help/gajimfaq#how-can-i-change-the-application-language but it insists using the default patform locale (italian)

  3. resoli

Note that the it is working on another machine, but I cannot do the same on my home machine. Any hint?

  4. sevenupman

    > It's probably presenting different mime types for different cases. I'll check more extensively 👍

  5. mesonium

resoli, doesn't work for me either here, despite having the languages listed

  6. resoli

    Yes! ``` $ flatpak --user config --list languages: it;en;fr (default: en;it) extra-languages: *unset* ```

  7. resoli

    And launching with ``` LANG=en_US.UTF-8 flatpak run org.gajim.Gajim ```

  8. resoli

The strange thing is that on the other machine I can switch to english and french without problems

  9. scompo

Hello, I'm new here, , I've opened an issue on some messed up italian translations (https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/issues/12334), I was told a comunity member was altready working on the issue and I could help on translate.gajim.org so I made an account, how can I help?

  10. H

    hey

  11. H

I want to download OTR how can i ?

  12. H

    please help me

  13. mesonium

`.local/share/flatpak/app/org.gajim.Gajim/x86_64/stable/$hash/files/share/locale/` lists symlinks for all languages, but the symlink destinations are all empty. It seems that only spelling correction dictionaries (libspelling.mo) have been installed. (Note I've also installed org.Gajim.gajim.Locale fwiw)

  14. lovetox

scompo: start by registering an account at translate.gajim.org, there you can check the strings. You can also talk to resoli who is already working on it

Thanks scompo, i will contact you directly

Hello. In https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/wikis/development/DevTranslate the link to `GNOME Human Interface Guidelines` is dead. The current one: https://developer.gnome.org/hig/

  21. k0tlin

Greetings! I want to switch to XMPP for daily use, but I need voice calls support from clients, both on windows and linux. Does Gajim supports voice calls? I've troubles finding reliable information about it

  22. mesonium

k0tlin: Gajim doesn't support voice calls. There's Dino, which does, but only offers an inofficial Windows port

  23. Bryan

Dino is the only linux client to support calls - according to xmpp.org

  25. Codimp

    > Dino is the only linux client to support calls - according to xmpp.org xmpp.org when I select the filter "Calls = Core" on "Aps / Clients" show me AstraChat, Dino and Movim

  28. pun

What about movim? https://xmpp.org/software/movim/ (It does seem to support voice calling and it's a webapp too)

  29. Codimp

yep Movim have calls, and even calls with multiple peoples on the same room, not just one-one

  30. pun

    Thanks for confirming that.. Codimp

  31. pun

The problem though with movim is it keeps toggling encryption (OMEMO) off and I hate it

  32. Codimp

I don't use Movim, but maybe it's and issue you can discuss in Movim room cause it's strange

  33. Codimp

  34. pun

    Thanks again Codimp

  35. pun

Codimp , that's a known issue it seems, OMEMO is unstable on movim

  36. Codimp

    oh ok

  37. k0tlin

    > k0tlin: Gajim doesn't support voice calls. There's Dino, which does, but it only offers an inofficial Windows port That's unfortunate. In wiki stated that Gajim supports "Jingle", but I guess that's outdated. I will be grateful if somebody provide a link for unofficial dino port to windows

  38. k0tlin

Codimp: Movim is great, but I don't figure out how to use it with my own XMPP prosody server ,_,

  39. pun

k0tlin https://mov.im/login/Y95Ce5w2 just login with your jid and password..

  40. pun

xmpp is federated so you don't need to have an account with movim just to use it

  41. k0tlin

pun: Thanks, I know, but Movim website is a bit confusing. It states I'm about to join some conference, but I don't want it, I want to use it like schildi.chat web for Matrix. Sorry for the off-topic

  42. 222m5

    k0tlin: xmpp:dino-win@chat.diebesban.de?join

  43. pun

that some conference is "official movim chatroom" you can decline it

  44. k0tlin

    222m5: Thank you ^^

  45. k0tlin

pun: oh I figured it out. Sorry for misunderstanding. Gonna test it for a while

What happened with the Top Menu in this new version?

  50. Codimp

    > What happened with the Top Menu in this new version? it has been dispatch on menu in different places, for example in bottom-left above the account pics

  51. phobos

Question: Are we allowed to sell stuff in Gajim? Like, pharmaceuticals, peptides, that sort of thing, for 'Research Purposes Only'?

  52. lovetox

Gajim is not a service, you can do whatever you want, as long as you dont do it in this channel

  53. sn22a@nixnet.services

    > it has been dispatch on menu in different places, for example in bottom-left above the account pics Thank you for answer, but there are the Options only, isn't not the same than the Top Menu.

  54. lovetox

    What option do you search?

  55. sn22a@nixnet.services

The Top Menu had, quick and simple acces to some useful options, e.g. to add a contact etc.

  58. hau

u can add a contact from the start chat button (the '+' in top left next to the search bar)

  59. sn22a@nixnet.services

Yes you right, thanks :) But if the Top Menu really gone?

  60. sn22a@nixnet.services

    > the emoji selector has no emojis in it for me since 2.3.0, categories are empty and search doesn't find any does anyone else have this issue or know wut it mite b? the emoji show up when I type smth after : like :heart its just the picker that doesnt work

  62. resoli

    > Yes! > ``` > $ flatpak --user config --list > languages: it;en;fr (default: en;it) > extra-languages: *unset* > ``` On a machine were language switching works: ``` $ flatpak config --list languages: it;en;fr (default: it) extra-languages: *unset* ```

  63. hau

    > Yes you right, thanks :) But is the Top Menu really gone? ye i suggest just clicking around a bit to familiarize with where everything moved

  64. resoli

may be `(default: en;it)` is causing the problem ...

  65. mesonium

resoli, I found a working solution for me: ``` flatpak override --user --env "LANG=fr_FR" --env "LANGUAGE=fr_FR" org.gajim.Gajim ```

  66. resoli

    Great! Thank you.

  67. suliman

What happened to Gajim, so smooth now !, smooth UI !

  68. suliman

i always set my laptop CPU to 800MHz, but after update Gajim the UI are now smooth and not like before !

  69. alfalfascout

    Yay for 2.3.2 on Windows!

  70. k0tlin

Gajim might be best XMPP client. In future I want to contribuite and add voice calls support 🥺

  71. maximus

I think that voice and video calls are probably the only thing that prevents gajim from becoming the ultimate modern xmpp client for desktop

  77. PMR

    > I think that voice and video calls are probably the only thing that prevents gajim from becoming the ultimate modern xmpp client for desktop Oh absolutely, it would make it modern if those were implemented

  78. speedygonzales99

I think some upstream libraries are preventing the Gajim team from implementing this, unfortunately. But I hope upstream merges those changes so that Gajim can then add support for calling. 🤞
