Gajim - 2025-06-13

  1. debacle

Is such a feature planned for Gajim? https://framapiaf.org/@debacle/114675184842723778 Shall I create an issue?

  2. cal0pteryx

debacle: it's planned within the activity view, and there is already an issue for that :)

    > debacle: it's planned within the activity view, and there is already an issue for that :) Remember the number or an keyword I could search for? "activity view" maybe?

  4. debacle

    No, found nothing.

  5. poezr

    is there a translate plugin

  6. poezr

    for Gajim

  7. wunderbar

I would also like to see a translation plugin.

  9. cal0pteryx

wunderbar: gajim is already translated to german (I assume that from your username). Plugins are translated via a plugin called "Plugins Translations"

  10. debacle

#11209 would be wonderful, too. Jump to last mention, then to previous one, etc. makes a lot of sense.

  11. cal0pteryx

    True

  12. wunderbar

cal0pteryx: I don't mean the website, that's in German. I mean the client, which is exclusively in English. I would like a translation tool for that.

  13. cal0pteryx

The client is fully translated, I did not mean the website

  14. wunderbar

    > The client is fully translated, I did not mean the website cal0pteryx: 1. why are all posts written in English? 2. how can I translate the posts? 3. can I also write here in German?

  15. cal0pteryx

wunderbar: if you're talking about website posts: they already are translated to german. I'm not sure where you're getting the idea that something is untranslated? Maybe show us a screenshot? This chat is english only

  16. wunderbar

cal0pteryx: I already wrote above that the website is in German. It's about the language of the chat. The answer to my question as to whether German can also be written in the chat is still missing.

  17. cal0pteryx

This chat is english for multiple reasons.

  18. cal0pteryx

Gajim the client is both english/german, plugins as well. The website is both english/german. This chat is english only (on purpose)

  19. poezr

    > wunderbar: gajim is already translated to german (I assume that from your username). Plugins are translated via a plugin called "Plugins Translations" I meant, translation plugin, like translating messages in real-time

  20. poezr

    messages in other languages

  21. lovetox

Ah so this was a misunderstanding

  22. lovetox

Such a plugin could be written, but it probably would depend on services which you need to pay for

  23. mesonium

lovetox: there are free models to run locally, but of course that means you require some computational power on your machine, depending on the model size

  24. mesonium

There's a free deepl plan with 500k chars/month, 50k words? one could use. But the plugin user would need to get an api key

  25. mesonium

But the model built-in into Firefox works quiet nicely, maybe it could be used as plugin

  26. mesonium

But the model built-in into Firefox works quiet nicely, maybe it could be used in a plugin

  27. cal0pteryx

Not sure if wunderbar and poezr are the same users

  28. wunderbar

cal0pteryx: No, we are not the same users.

  29. mesonium

    > I would also like to see a translation plugin. cal0pteryx: they both asked the same question while poezr asked first

  30. Aaron

Hi. A friend is using Gajim on Windows. They were randomly logged out and upon logging back in they're appearing as a new device and can no longer access their encrypted messages. Any idea what could have caused this, so it can be avoided in the future? Thanks!

  31. lovetox

you get only a new device if you delete Gajim data on the harddrive

  32. lovetox

but maybe you misinterpret also what you are seeing

  33. lovetox

why do you think he got a new device?

  34. Aaron

Hmm. New encryption key and the device had to be trusted again.

  35. lovetox

    so now you see 2?

  36. lovetox

maybe he logged in on a other device

  37. Aaron

Yes, correct, 2 devices. They implied it was the same device, but I'll double check.

  38. Aaron

They told me it's the same device

  39. Aaron

    *same physical computer

  40. lovetox

yeah sorry no idea, the only reason a key gets calculated new is when you delete the key on the harddrive

  41. lovetox

that, or they installed a second gajim version, which stores stuff somewhere else

  42. lovetox

for example, you install gajim from the webpage, as portable

  43. lovetox

and later you install gajim from the windows store, then the windows store will get its data from somewhere else

  44. lovetox

so maybe ask if they have multiple installs? or did in the past? maybe they deinstalled and afterwards installed the portable version?

wurstsalat pushed 1 commits to branch gajim/master cfix: Add missing version check for Adw version - https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/commit/f58780fcb104312689733e043e004a75aa2edd68

  46. Aaron

    > so maybe ask if they have multiple installs? or did in the past? maybe they deinstalled and afterwards installed the portable version? I don't think, so. I asked earlier. Thanks for trying! They rebooted their laptop and now seem to be using the original "device" (I can tell by the "Last seen" times) and have access to their messages again, so all's good.

  48. Aaron

I'm going to guess cosmic rays, hours apart, both flipping the same bit

  49. lovetox

could also be a different user being logged in in windows
