Gajim - 2025-06-09

Hi, we have a private OMEMO enabled MUC for friends; not all friends are contacts for each other. One friend has been connecting from mobile for some time. Suddenly he cannot send OMEMO encrypted messages anymore in the MUC; unencrypted messages are fine; also, he can read other encrypted messages in the MUC. We are unable to trace exactly when/how the issue started. How could he somehow _reset_ the OMEMO stuff for his problematic ID, so that he can send OMEMO encrypted messages again? It'd be great if someone here could shed some light on this. Thanks.

  2. lovetox

what is the error he receives when trying to send a message?

  3. curious_asker

Unfortunately, I don't remember the error exactly, I've asked him again. Will post it here one he replies. Thank you.

  5. Link Mauve

curious_asker, and which version of Gajim is he using?

  6. curious_asker

Link Mauve, He is connecting from mobile, using Conversations

  7. Link Mauve

Oh my bad I forgot “mobile” here. So maybe ask in the Conversations room?

  8. curious_asker

lovetox, My friend just replied. The error he is facing is a toast containing "Error fetching OMEMO keys"

  9. curious_asker

    > Oh my bad I forgot “mobile” here. So maybe ask in the Conversations room? Will do, If there is a way to _reset_ OMEMO for his mobile account even if it requires logging in from that ID using Gajim, It'd be really helpful.

  10. Link Mauve

curious_asker, OMEMO is handled per device, there is nothing Gajim can fix in Conversations, as both are different devices handling their own state.

  11. curious_asker

I see, should've thought of it earlier. I just came across a description very similar to my issue in Conversations' open issues. Thank you Link Mauve for pointing to the right direction.

Where do I find the code, which opens the emoji completion dialog? I'd like to write a small reproduce to file a kde plasma bug report, as the dialog stays open on alt+tab

Hello, I have just observed something annoying in gajim. I use several contact groups, the individual chats are all distributed among these groups. I have switched the account off and on again because of a change to the server certificate. After that the complete assignment of the chats to the groups was gone! is this already known? surely a bug I think. I don't know what else could have caused this. It is Gajim 1.9.5 under Windows.

  23. cal0pteryx

stefan: it's a known issue and there has been work done on this in the past. I'll update the merge request containing a solution to that problem later

  24. lovetox

stefan, but for next time, there is no need to switch your account off

  25. stefan

true. closing gajim would have been enough, right?

  26. lovetox

or clicking on the bottom left avatar, go to the status, set to offline, and online again

  27. lovetox

if your goal was to reconnect to the server

  28. lovetox

but i understand why you would turn it off, for example in conversations (mobile client) you probably would need to do that

  29. stefan

Ah.. I thought the "deactivate account" button would do the same as going offline, but apparently that's not the case?

  30. stefan

It would also be nice if you could change the order of the contact groups (I hope I haven't missed anything).

  31. lovetox

it does, but in a overkill way, it does much more than just going offline

  32. lovetox

in Gajim you would use that only if you want the account to be gone from Gajim

  33. lovetox

with groups you mean the workspaces in the sidebar?

  34. stefan

    yes

  35. lovetox

i can order them, you cant?

  36. lovetox

    simply drag and drop

  37. stefan

    it works. sorry.
