Are there any plans to improve Gajim's performance under heavy load? The spam tooling itself is fine currently, but during a big attack the actual client slows to the point of nearly a full freeze, only barely usable enough for me to ban everything

  10. zayd

also, I've noticed frequent crashes on the Gentoo package, both 2.2.0 and 2.1.1, on Python 3.13, happens a lot whenever I click on a chat, open the Start/Join Chat menu, or search messages in a chat

  11. unassailable

Lately I have noticed some Gajim crashes on Debian, several cloned machines, also when I attempt to open Start/Join Chat menu. Gajim gets stuck, won't close.

  12. unassailable

The issue seems to "come and go."

  13. cal0pteryx

Without debug logs there is little to say. Please gather some and post crash infos, then we can have a look ;)

  14. Link Mauve

And if this is an actual crash, try getting the stack trace from `coredumpctl gdb` then `bt`.

  15. unassailable

OK, I'm an end-user. I follow here mainly attempting to learn a bit about Gajim since I consider it important to my privacy. I'd need instructions about where to get the logs, please.

  16. unassailable

I installed Gajim from the Debian repo.

  17. jonas’

lovetox, I'm on 2.2, so maybe it's indeed that, thanks.

  18. jonas’

lovetox, I'm on 2.1, so maybe it's indeed that, thanks.

  19. jonas’

yep, 2.2 sees the avatar, great.

  20. lovetox

jonas’: fyi prosody stopped sending the avatar hash in presences with 0.13, so any client which does not support yet the new spec will have problems

  21. jonas’

    *13.0

  22. jonas’

what is the new spec fwiw?

  23. jonas’

I'm a bit out of the loop there

I'm sorry to ask again, but can someone explain me what is the difference between system proxy and no proxy in Preferences -> Advanced -> Miscellanous -> Global Proxy

  26. isemptyornull

I'm sorry to ask again, but can someone explain me what is the difference between system proxy and no proxy in Preferences -> Advanced -> Miscellaneous -> Global Proxy

  27. lovetox

One uses the proxy of the system and one uses no proxy

  28. lovetox

    What is unclear?

  29. jonas’

oh I see, I didn't realize that that was supposed to be a replacement.

  30. jonas’

    funny! :)

  31. isemptyornull

lovetox, so if no proxy is setted up on the system it's the same as setting no proxy, right ?

  32. lovetox

    Yes

  33. isemptyornull

Oh okay, I got it now

  34. isemptyornull

    Thank you

  35. zayd

    > Without debug logs there is little to say. Please gather some and post crash infos, then we can have a look ;) Not sure who this was directed at but I'll try next time it happens

  36. zayd

mine seems to be a bit different, fully closes instead of freezing

  37. keane

Not able to disable and remove account on Gajim 1.9.5 (Windows)

  38. keane

Even thought the toggle is turned OFF ion the accounts window, the account name is still visible in the left vertical menu of Gajim

  43. Goot the ticklegoblin!

Does this feature require server-side support?

  44. Goot the ticklegoblin!

It could be the case that Gajim is trying to delete the account server-side, which if the server doesn't have support for that, it's not going to work. So it fails at this point but doesn't handle it gracefully. (This is just Goot's guess)

  45. keane

    > Does this feature require server-side support? I don't know.

  46. keane

    > It could be the case that Gajim is trying to delete the account server-side, which if the server doesn't have support for that, it's not going to work. So it fails at this point but doesn't handle it gracefully. (This is just Goot's guess) What is the alternative then? Server doesn't exist anymore. There should be a way.

  47. keane

I am not trying to to delete the xmpp account. Just the account from Gajim. Not unregistering. So it shouldn't have anything to do with server.

  48. lovetox

    keane: diasable the account first

  49. keane

    > Even though the toggle is turned OFF ion the accounts window, the account name is still visible in the left vertical menu of Gajim I did.

  50. lovetox

    Then restart gajim

  51. lovetox

It has on some connection loop

  52. lovetox

It hangs on some connection loop

  53. keane

After restarting, it is enabled again!

  54. keane

    > keane: diasable the account first With other accounts, right after disabling, the acount name gets removed from the account list in the main Gajim window, however it is not happening with this stuck one.

  55. lovetox

Click the status icon and set the status to offline

  56. lovetox

    Then disable the acc

  57. keane

Changed status to offline, and then disabled account. Restarted. No. Change. The status was stuck at connecting again.

  58. keane

I followed same process with Connect on startup and global status off, and then i was able to remove the account.

  59. keane

    Thanks for help :)
