Hello, I'm really confused, I'm looking for my contact list but I can't find where it is in the interface. I'm on Linux, with version 2.1.1 of Gajim. I see "add a contact", but where are my previously saved contacts?

The picture on bottom left open a menu when I can select my account (I have 2 account) ; and if I clic on one, I had a new windows with only my profile...

Zatalyz: you find your contacts by Ctrl+N or Start Chat. Once you have opened a chat, you can put them into a workspace for grouping and pin and arrange them within a workspace✎ -

Ha, really strange. But ok. People and channel are mixed, no filter to only see "friends" ? And we can't reorganize people by group in this list, only if we click in one, open a chat, then modify the parameters of the contact ?
-
mesonium
If you have grouped them in your roster, and you have a friends list, you should be able to filter by that in the Start Chat dialog
-
mesonium
If you require to manage your roster groups, go to Accounts -> $account -> Advanced -> Manage Contact List

ha this last is the thing I want, thanks

I'm nostalgic for the interface from a few years ago, I think... far fewer clicks to do simple things ^^

And we can't reorganize people by group in this list, only if we click in one, open a chat, then modify the parameters of the contact ? there is a filter button right on top of the list. you can group contacts and group chats in workspaces on the left side, even with drag and drop ↺

How do I mute people in a muc?
-
cal0pteryx
with Gajim 2.2: right click -> block
-
kimapr
in the context of IM muting someone usually means the moderator action to make them unable to speak, it seems you can do that by right clicking their profile picture then Revoke Voice
-
hyol
So you can't do it as a non-moderator?
-
kimapr
do you want to stop seeing their messages or to make them unable to send messages at all in the chat?
-
kimapr
cal0pteryx's suggestion to Block should do the former (no moderator priv needed), mine the latter (yes moderator priv needed)
-
cal0pteryx
hyol, kimapr, Gajim 2.2 added a "mute/block" feature usable locally by anyone. additionally, there has been the "block user for everyone in this group chat" for a long time now
-

see https://gajim.org/post/2025-05-15-gajim-2.2.0-released/

revoking voice is _yet another_ thing, but for moderators only
