> seeger: you need a second person to use omemo, just saying second person or second device? the messages are encrypted on my drive rather than plaintext and aren’t able to be opened until i enable omemo, so that makes me think it’s functioning properly

In a group chat not sure, but you don't need a group chat if you don't have a second person
-

yeah it looks to just be needing two devices, not people - and I’ve just been kind of hobbyist making different configs of servers and seeing what I can do, then inviting friends to them after they’re up and running, so yeah these are all group chats

> it's a bit weird because there is only one person on the server currently (my admin account), so when sending a message through gajim I get the message to manage what devices I trust, but no devices are listed on gajim. profanity correctly uses omemo with the devices I've trusted
-
Fyrstikkeske
Yes it’s an omemo thing, only 1 person gives errors
-
Fyrstikkeske
You need more than 1 for it to work correctly

XEP-0503 seems huge, hope it and it’s dependants will only become better supported

XEP-0503 does seem pretty cool, I'm trying to make XMPP look attractive enough to regular discord users to consider switching.

In my internet club, people consider moving from IRC to Matrix. We have a Jabber server, but 0503 is clearly missing. I hope, that it gets support at least in Gajim and Prose at some point.

Real talk, I used XMPP a decade or two ago. Then I was on a variety of messengers that got bought up by various corporations, changed in real stupid ways to make them more profitable, and eventually killed... and I have come back to XMPP both for potential message security (e.g. OMEMO) and also the security of this being a community project rather than a proprietary one that some CEO could kill at any time.

And also because, since many clients are open source, if something is going wrong or they're in need of a particular feature, I _might_ be able to help. I like helping.

seems like the pango patch got merged or not?

danielstein: it's about cairo, and no, it's not merged yet, really frustrating. But there are even more issues with pywinrt. Though they should be solved with the next release
