It would be nice to see the "Status message"(s) of my peers in the list of conversations. Not sure, how, w/o cluttering the interface. Maybe configurable alternative to show last line of conversation? Maybe when hovering?

The chat banner is the space above (or on top) of the conversation banner? Yes, there it is, but to see it, I need open the conversation first.

i also check sometimes status messages, but in all cases its for a specific person, no need to have all the status messages constantly in my view

also the start chat dialog shows status messages, if you want to check multiple, for example for a specific group

the question is not if status messages are useful, the question is, do we need it in a prime space where they are *always* visible

the usual case i have is, i want to write a specific person, see they are away or dnd, then im interested if they have some useful info in their status message, for example when they are back

I don't have to see that all the time of course. Maybe that could be a transient view? Show Status messages (or, if that were implemented, user activity or even user tune for the fun)

i don't think conversations has a way to set status by design, and a friend of mine who has snikket is always marked as online

Btw. at work, nobody uses a smartphone for (professional/business) chat. Even for Whatsapp etc. people use desktop apps.

Anyway, it's not *that* important, only nice to have ;-)

i also work in a company, i would not care for anyone writing "im at lunch"

i mean its 12 o clock, user is "Away" and idle for 10 minutes

im not thinking they have gone on holiday ..

im trying to find out what the real problem is you are trying to solve, the Away indicator is not enough?

because i dont think its a common thing that people set status messages multiple times a day

usually clients do that automatically

for example if you have a Call, or are in a meeting, if your chat software has access to your calender

It can be different things, even at noon: Longer phone call with a customer, meeting, going to colleagues in a different storey etc. With user activity, some of us found that useful to be more specific than "away", esp. because it was only one or two clicks, no need to type sth. Maybe it is a bad idea to abuse status message for user activity?

Btw. esp. with the filters, the open chat dialog is pretty nice to see status messages. Maybe user activity should be revived and shown there, too ;-) ✏

if you are talking about "clicks" thats a simple matter of UX in the client

it has nothing to do with how the information is sent over the wire

why would you care if its with a presence status message, or via pubsub with some user activity

Thunderbird does that using a plugin. But not very good, as I can't see other peoples calendars, when I want to find a free slot. I always open the horrible MS web UI to see that :-( ↺

How do you moderate messages from users that have left the chat? The button to moderate the messages is grayed out.

To be specific, the messages are images.

Luckily these were all bridged users so as a temporary solution the bridge media path was changed

Hey guys, is there a compatible Android Messenger so I could chat with Gajim Users via my Android Phone?
