du hast ein activity_message_label in der activity row

  6. lovetox

    ^ cal0pteryx,

  7. lovetox

    sorry wrong chat :)

    🀣 1
  8. debacle

It would be nice to see the "Status message"(s) of my peers in the list of conversations. Not sure, how, w/o cluttering the interface. Maybe configurable alternative to show last line of conversation? Maybe when hovering?

  9. lovetox

Du we not display it in the chat banner?

  10. debacle

The chat banner is the space above (or on top) of the conversation banner? Yes, there it is, but to see it, I need open the conversation first.

  11. lovetox

yes, but why would you need to scan status messages of multiple people?

  12. lovetox

i also check sometimes status messages, but in all cases its for a specific person, no need to have all the status messages constantly in my view

  13. lovetox

also the start chat dialog shows status messages, if you want to check multiple, for example for a specific group

  14. lovetox

the question is not if status messages are useful, the question is, do we need it in a prime space where they are *always* visible

  15. flit

    > The '@'-key nickname expansion in the input text field is great! πŸ‘ β†Ί

  16. lovetox

the usual case i have is, i want to write a specific person, see they are away or dnd, then im interested if they have some useful info in their status message, for example when they are back

  17. debacle

    > yes, but why would you need to scan status messages of multiple people? E.g. when I scan through the list of my colleagues to see who is out for lunch and who not. Maybe that would work better with the user activity XEP, but it is gone from Gajim, so Status message is what we have. β†Ί

  18. debacle

I don't have to see that all the time of course. Maybe that could be a transient view? Show Status messages (or, if that were implemented, user activity or even user tune for the fun)

  19. lovetox

but you see this already on the status indicator

  20. lovetox

you dont need a message for that

  21. lovetox

someone that is away is not here, and if its lunchtime, you dont need a status message to guess where they are

  22. lovetox

the other view is the start chat dialog, you see all status messages there

  23. lovetox

also is this real, you colleagues extra set a status message everytime they go to lunch?

  24. lovetox

or is it simply the auto away message?

  25. lovetox

but i wonder how this works with smartphones, do smartphones ever set the "away" status?

  26. flit

i don't think conversations has a way to set status by design, and a friend of mine who has snikket is always marked as online

  27. debacle

    > also is this real, you colleagues extra set a status message everytime they go to lunch? At the moment, never! Because it does not make much sense, as it is not very visible. But when Gajim still supported "user activity", some of us used it a lot. β†Ί

  28. debacle

Btw. at work, nobody uses a smartphone for (professional/business) chat. Even for Whatsapp etc. people use desktop apps.

  29. debacle

Anyway, it's not *that* important, only nice to have ;-)

  30. lovetox

i also work in a company, i would not care for anyone writing "im at lunch"

  31. lovetox

i mean its 12 o clock, user is "Away" and idle for 10 minutes

  32. lovetox

im not thinking they have gone on holiday ..

  33. lovetox

im trying to find out what the real problem is you are trying to solve, the Away indicator is not enough?

  34. lovetox

because i dont think its a common thing that people set status messages multiple times a day

  35. lovetox

    usually clients do that automatically

  36. lovetox

for example if you have a Call, or are in a meeting, if your chat software has access to your calender

  37. debacle

It can be different things, even at noon: Longer phone call with a customer, meeting, going to colleagues in a different storey etc. With user activity, some of us found that useful to be more specific than "away", esp. because it was only one or two clicks, no need to type sth. Maybe it is a bad idea to abuse status message for user activity?

  38. debacle

Btw. esp. with the filters, the open chat dialog is pretty nice to see status messages. Maybe user activity should revived and shown there, too ;-) ✎

  39. debacle

Btw. esp. with the filters, the open chat dialog is pretty nice to see status messages. Maybe user activity should be revived and shown there, too ;-) ✏

  40. lovetox

dont see user activity ever coming back, its inferior to status message in every way

  41. lovetox

if you are talking about "clicks" thats a simple matter of UX in the client

  42. lovetox

it has nothing to do with how the information is sent over the wire

  43. lovetox

why would you care if its with a presence status message, or via pubsub with some user activity

  44. lovetox

If you are saying you want, easy to reach, presets of status messages, i can see that

  45. lovetox

we had that once but removed it, but its not a hard thing to add again

  46. lovetox

somehow calender integration would be a more huge thing

  47. lovetox

what do you use at work as calender? or solution to schedule meetings?

  48. debacle

    > what do you use at work as calender? or solution to schedule meetings? That would be a great feature, but for my workplace, it has to be integrated into the MSexChange calendar. Thunderbird does that using a plugin. But not very good, as I can't see other peoples calendars, when I want to find a free slot. I always open the horrible MS web UI to see that :-( β†Ί

  49. debacle

    > If you are saying you want, easy to reach, presets of status messages, i can see that Yes, that's the point. I don't care about presence vs. pubsub/PEP. Only, that I thought, everything in XMPP evolves until it is pubsub ;-) β†Ί

  50. Nyx [ep.im]

How do you moderate messages from users that have left the chat? The button to moderate the messages is grayed out.

  51. Nyx [ep.im]

To be specific, the messages are images.

  52. lovetox

    Nyx [ep.im], what Gajim version?

  53. Nyx [ep.im]

    2.0.4 for Linux

  54. Nyx [ep.im]

Luckily these were all bridged users so as a temporary solution the bridge media path was changed

  55. lovetox

    hmm

  56. lovetox

yeah i see its a bug

  57. lovetox

we should not check the online status for these actions

  58. lovetox

    hmm no wait

  59. lovetox

you see the actions, but they are grey ..

  60. lovetox

do you see this for all messages of all users

  61. lovetox

    can you test please

  62. Nyx [ep.im]

    There's seemingly no moderate button

    > can you try to rejoin the channel Still the same β†Ί

  69. lovetox

hmm are you sure this groupchat supports moderations?

  70. lovetox

    its a server feature

  71. lovetox

can you give me the jid of the groupchat then i can check

  72. Nyx [ep.im]

Yeah, seems like the `mod_muc_moderation` module isn't installed on this server

  75. Nyx [ep.im]

After enabling it, it works now, thanks!

  76. karlo.mueller

Hey guys, is there a compatible Android Messenger so I could chat with Gajim Users via my Android Phone?

  77. voker57

plenty of XMPP clients for Android, https://conversations.im/ is a popular one

  78. karlo.mueller

So all XMPP clients are compatible with each other?

  79. voker57

more or less, the might support different extensions ✎

  80. voker57

more or less, they might support different extensions ✏

  81. voker57

Gajim and Conversations both have good OMEMO (e2e encryption) support, others might not ✎

  83. lovetox

    karlo.mueller, try conversations or https://xmpp.org/software/cheogram-android/

  84. karlo.mueller

I'll try cheogram cause it seems to be available officially on fdroid..

  85. Codimp

    Conversations also is

  86. karlo.mueller

But the website only links to playstore, so I thought it is maintained by someone else on F-Droid?

  87. karlo.mueller

I guess I cannot import my chats from Gajim?

  88. voker57

apparently author just likes money a bit too much

  89. karlo.mueller

    > apparently author just likes money a bit too much That's what I was thinking too.. β†Ί

  90. lovetox

    > I guess I cannot import my chats from Gajim? no, but depending if your conversations are encrypted or not, the mobile client maybe can load them anyway if they are stored on the server β†Ί

  91. karlo.mueller

I see, got Cheogram running, could login and add a chat and OMEMO works too! Thank you guys :)

    > But the website only links to playstore, so I thought it is maintained by someone else on F-Droid? The Conversations website wasn't updated in many years. The README in the source code links to both F-droid and Play store https://codeberg.org/iNPUTmice/Conversations/ β†Ί
