Gajim - 2024-12-31

I just want a little icon, that shows me, if there is something new to read. (Like Gajim <= 1.9.5.) Desktop notifications and sound notifications would interrupt me (bad!), and go unnoticed, if I'm not at the PC at the moment. Therefore, a DBus signal for received messages is probably helpful. Where can I find the documentation about it, esp. signal name and signature?

Would dfeet show that ?

Good idea, will try! It should, as well as dbus-monitor (?) at shell level.

debacle: what if you used XMPP to be notified you got a new message

`dbus-monitor` is really helpful. But it seems, that I found a simpler solution for the notifications. I'm using EDNC (Emacs Desktop Notification Center) and I can let it update my modeline. Problem (almost) solved 😀

debacle: I wasn't actually joking though 🙂 a small program to log into your xmpp account and notify you is probably easier and better than the same for dbus

His DE has no support for the gajim status icons so he wants to do his own

You mean gtk4 dropped support for the way literally everything else does tray icons I think

I'm just suggesting that monitoring XMPP for messages is probably easier and better than dbus, it's an option anyway

How would he monitor xmpp for that. That's gajims job and it tells other applications with a dbus signal ✏

As EDNC already does all the dbus handling, I only needed to add a hook to EDNC. It doesn't give me a tray icon, but an icon in the modeline, which is good enough for me.

Hello I was wondering if there was any possibility of gif image previews in a future version of Gajim as me and my friend are trying it out and are disappointed by the lack of this feature

GIF is a image format, sites like gifphy.com dont actually use GIF anymore
