Gajim - 2024-11-29

  1. Kevin

    Hi, I have a question....

  2. Kevin

I am trying to use GPG to send things, I am currently trying it with myself, first My phone (monocles) and desktop (Gajim from Flathub) both have the same GPG pub and priv keys, in Gajim I could assign the key of myself and send a message encrypted in GPG that my phone can read

  4. Kevin

But my phone says "monocles chat can't encrypt the messages because this contact does not send a public key" What causes this to work one way, how can it be I assigned a key in Gajim but Monocles doesn't seem to find it?

  5. Kevin

(Monocles is an Android app forked from Conversations, if that helps)

  6. cat_petter_2012

i had a similar problem with conversations <-> gajim. I can easily import pub key from a gajim user to OpenKeyChain on android, as well as key to a machine with gajim, from android but it looks like conversations (as well as it's forks) require to send the pgp key trough conversation's own algorithm. Don't know how to fix it - just switched to omemo and never bothered with pgp again.

    ☹️ 1

Kevin: are you using the PGP or the OpenPGP plugin for gajim?

  8. hannibal

    Only the former should work

  9. cat_petter_2012

just PGP plugin. OpenPGP was unfinished when i was playing around with it

    > Kevin: are you using the PGP or the OpenPGP plugin for gajim? PGP for Gajim I tried OpenPGP, that one didn't work well and I disabled it

I have found Conversations git on a codeberg, maybe their issues threads will help https://codeberg.org/iNPUTmice/Conversations/issues

  17. cat_petter_2012

since monocles is conversations fork, it should work of you too, Kevin

  18. cat_petter_2012

  19. cat_petter_2012

oops, that's not for gajim, that's for xmppc

    👌 1
  20. Kevin

    And it seemed that the solution was to have both devices know all public keys? They both already do have them. Or am I missing something? (^^;

  21. Kevin

    > oops, that's not for gajim, that's for xmppc 👌

  22. cat_petter_2012

Kevin, monocles/conversations have an integration with OpenKeychain: https://f-droid.org/packages/org.sufficientlysecure.keychain/

  23. cat_petter_2012

    Do you have it?

  24. Kevin

    Yes

  26. Kevin

And the key is in Android OpenKeychain calls it “My own key” which seems to mean it's a pub/priv key pair

  27. cat_petter_2012

    > And the key is in Android > OpenKeychain calls it “My own key” which seems to mean it's a pub/priv key pair Yes

  28. Kevin

I'm not sure how I can change the trust (like to 5/ultimate, it's my own key, aftet all)

  29. cat_petter_2012

I don't know ether - never seen trust level in it's interface

  30. cat_petter_2012

you have already linked 'your own key' to an xmpp account?

  31. cat_petter_2012

    *have you bad english

  32. Kevin

    > you have already linked 'your own key' to an xmpp account? How would I do that (and on Android or the PC?)

  33. cat_petter_2012

    > How would I do that (and on Android or the PC?) on android you have to go to your xmpp account settings (usually in the 3 dot menu) and you will find option to link PGP key

  34. Seyd

Has nothing appeared to replace the IM Observatory? How do you choose an XMPP server now?

  35. Juan M

    Seyd, what about https://providers.xmpp.net/?

  36. Seyd

    Juan M: thank you
