Gajim - 2024-11-19

Hello. I may have found a bug. I found that, if you paste a long link, then the chat window fails to wrap properly (or the wrap length becomes much longer, obliging you to have a wide window if you wanted to read the rightmost edges of lines). To demonstrate this potential bug, I will insert a long link. Sorry if it disrupts your reading experience (as it must). All you have to fix the issue, is to right-click link > delete locally. Thanks.

I am using Gajim in Manjaro Linux. The version is 1.9.3 (Unix/Linux).

  4. novice8

Sorry, that was: hover over link > click three dots icon > Delete Message locally

    novice8: it's a known issue https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/issues/11854

    @hannibal: Okay. Thanks.

    > Though old gtk4 version not tested with that lovetox: well, it looks like I'll wait till I update debian to next stable before I can test gajim-gtk4 :) > Gajim needs gtk4 >= 4.14.0 (found 4.8.3) to run. Quitting...

  8. mrdoctorwho

can you guys pretty please fix the d&d issue?

  9. lovetox

Please report it on our issue tracker with detailed information what DE you are using, Wayland/X11, flatpak or not

  10. mrdoctorwho

    ok

Hi, do you know where i can get the omemo of an account (mine or another one) on 1.7.3 (debian 12)

  12. Fil

Hi, do you know where i can get the omemo of an account (mine or another one) on 1.7.3 (debian 12)?

  13. Fil

I am stuck since i do not see how to get thé omemo key from my own client so i seem unable to confirm my omemo key and so i can't use gajim in a secure way

  14. meson

Fil: you mean the fingerprint, not the private/public/iterated key. In recent version you have a lock symbol button next to the input field, where you can see your key in a dialog if you click it. Or Go to Accounts -> manage accounts (earlier it was named add account iirc) -> encryption (omemo). Or if your version still uses a plugin for omemo: Go to gajim -> plugins -> omemo plugin settings

Hello, I have a basic user question. I use Gajim on multiple devices. Where in the menus do I find the name for each instance? (Am attempting to send a file that's large so Gajim asking me for device name.) Apologies for such a "dummy" question.

  17. Fil

    meson: thx :)

  18. Fil

    Found

  19. fil

I noticed in gajim 1.7.3 that some accounts with which I just exchanged are however displayed at the end of my workspace. Do you know how to fix this?

  20. cal0pteryx

fil: you probably hovered your mouse over the list. The list does not sort if you hover it, to avoid jumping chats under your cursor

  21. fil

I don't think so, here is what I got

  23. fil

timestamps are from 2021 but I received messages from today (and the accounts are displayed at the end of my workspace)

  24. debacle

Known issue? git master 1.9.5+git20241117.d997efc1-1 (Debian experimental) has no tray icon.

  25. cal0pteryx

debacle: since gtk 4 removed its status icon, we had to implement our own. There is a dbus service now aand it works with some implementations (kde for example). lovetox knows more :)

  26. meson

cal0pteryx, I changed the image preview a bit :) what do you think?

  27. meson

  28. cal0pteryx

Rounded corners, better vertical spacing, great! :)

  29. meson

but it's not complete, I see there's a weird frame around. Will check that tomorrow.

  30. meson

if you wanna play around or finish it for me if you are okay with the way to go: https://dev.gajim.org/mesonium/gajim/-/commit/9cc2ba76b463abd58ecb8efac2f23af8833b6e5b

  31. cal0pteryx

    meson: thanks a lot

  32. bard_

why round the corners? aren't you just cutting off part of the image?

  33. meson

bard_: it's just a very few pixels. No one has ever complained in Conversations afaik :)

  34. meson

And they cut away there a lot more.

  35. bard_

I certainly complained to myself and friends when Conversations did it as well. very strange and unfortunate trend.

  36. lovetox

its a small preview, i guess if you care about 5 pixels in a corner, you will also care to see the image in full, and one click opens it in your favorite image viewer

  37. Link Mauve

Hi, your CI seems to be failing here: https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/merge_requests/1101

  38. cal0pteryx

This won't lead to anything. Some people like rounded corners, some people don't. Current trend is rounded, and that's also what Gtk does. So rounded it is

  39. lovetox

Link Mauve, im not sure this is the right solution

  40. lovetox

if they type a username, the next step in the assisant will fail

  41. lovetox

would it not be better to maybe give an example in this dialog?

  42. lovetox

Right now it says "Please enter an XMPP address"

  43. lovetox

it could say "Please enter an XMPP address e.g. username@domain.org"

  44. lovetox

or we could replace the entry placeholder with an example of the jid

  46. Link Mauve

lovetox, I remember reading not long ago that placeholders like that are bad for accessibility.

  47. lovetox

it cant be worse then no hint at all

  48. lovetox

it cant be worse than no hint at all

  49. lovetox

also i dont see how that can be bad, its text on the screen

debacle, sadly libappindicator is based on Gtk.Menu, which is only available in Gtk3. So we're left to implement all backends ourself
