Gajim - 2024-10-15

  1. bob

Howdy, I have to make a bug report. Since 1.9.5 on Windows I think, I have a problem that I can not write a message. The message box excepts no inputs. This is right after starting gajim. Quitting and restarting gajim a second time is fixing this. Of note, I have omemo enabled on my chats. Thanks for reading.

  2. b7g7

    Hello, https://paste.gajim.org/ doesn't work.

  3. b7g7

    Gajim (1.8.4) - previev of images doesn't work. nbxmpp.http Request(139660867768192): g-tls-error-quark: Unacceptable TLS certificate (2)

  4. b7g7

    I use self-signed certificate.

  5. lovetox

    bob: check the status indicatir

  6. lovetox

If it's blue gajim is still connecting to your server

  7. Louis2

When I copy image, I never see in Gajim that I can paste image by using mouse. I can do it by using keyboard, but often I use only mouse for writing. If I use accessibility keyboard, I can use Ctrl-V and insert image. But "Paste" in Gajim menu is not turned on, it should be, so that image can be pasted by mouse.

    please open a issue

  9. donnerwetter

Is there a translation tool for Gajim that allows me to use Gajim and other English-language tools?

  10. meson

donnerwetter: you mean translation of chat messages?

  11. donnerwetter

    > donnerwetter: you mean translation of chat messages? meson: That is correct. Example: I only use Gajim when I have a question. And then I translate manually with DeepL.

  12. meson

donnerwetter: it should not be hard to write a plugin for that

  13. donnerwetter

    > it should not be hard to write a plugin for that meson: Unfortunately, I don't have the slightest idea about such things. Could you do that or do you know someone who could do it and whom you would approach?

  14. donnerwetter

asterix, lovetox: Or could one of you help here?

  15. meson

I could do that but I have other things on my list first.

  16. jstein

donnerwetter, you could try a marketplace for freelancers like fivver to code this for you

  17. donnerwetter

meson: That would make me happy. Could you give me a time slot?

  18. meson

Difficult to say, I don't wanna make promises. :)

  19. meson

    Not this month, maybe December

  20. donnerwetter

meson. thank you for your willingness to help.

  21. meson

No promises again, but if I have the free time I will look into it (also bc of own interest)

  22. cal0pteryx

In my opinion this should not be any app-specific functionality. This should be a global app providing translation services for other apps. Some real-time translator

  23. cal0pteryx

    Like this one https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/translator/blog/2018/05/02/windows10-2/

  24. donnerwetter

cal0pterix: right, I'm imagining a global app. I'll take a look at the link later.

  25. donnerwetter

As far as I translate the linked text correctly, I have to copy and paste the text to be translated. This is possible in exactly the same way at DeepL. I'm thinking of a tool like the one Firefox offers. Clicking on the corresponding icon translates the entire page.

  26. lovetox

i would be great if the OS would provide some API to locally translate stuff

  27. lovetox

it would be great if the OS would provide some API to locally translate stuff

  28. lovetox

deepL gives you 500.000 characters for free per month

  29. Kris

    you can run libretranslate locally

  30. Kris

and Firefox also includes a local translation model these days

  31. Kris

    ah, was already mentioned

  32. Kris

donnerwetter, you could probably make a gajim plugin for that

  33. donnerwetter

    > it would be great if the OS would provide some API to locally translate stuff lovetox: I am a layman, so I would like to ask you what this means in concrete terms - example? > deepL gives you 500.000 characters for free per month lovetox: I don't see any connection to my concern here. It's about a one-click translation and not about copying and pasting. Kris: I have already commented on your suggestions in the course of this discussion - thank you.

  34. lissine

    >> it would be great if the OS would provide some API to locally translate stuff donnerwetter: it means that the Operating System would implement translation locally and allow apps to use it.
