  5. pinkolik

    Hello everyone!

  6. pinkolik

Does gajim support PGP encryption in multi-user chats?

  7. moparisthebest

    Probably, because it used to

  8. moparisthebest

It'll have to be a private/non-semi-anon group chat

  9. lovetox

    pinkolik, no

  10. moparisthebest

When was that removed? I used to use it before OMEMO

  11. cal0pteryx

    In MUCs?

  12. lovetox

at least not the "PGP" plugin, the "OpenPGP" one probably could, but it will be hard to fill a groupchat of users that have clients that support that

  13. lovetox

moparisthebest, i cant remember it every beeing a thing

  14. pinkolik

Yeah, I mean like a private group chat. If everyone has this plugin enabled

  15. moparisthebest

This would have been xep-0027 PGP for sure

  16. pinkolik

    > This would have been xep-0027 PGP for sure So if I install this plugin will it just work with groups? 😅️

  17. pinkolik

Or are there any additional steps?

  18. moparisthebest

Wow truly the dark ages of 2015 https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/commit/70e8b130ac9938be902cb83c1233f1d4c19bcde0

  19. lovetox

pinkolik, it will not work in groups

  20. lovetox

    use OMEMO for groupchat

  21. pinkolik

But in theory it's possible, right? I think conversation supports that

  22. lovetox

    yes

  23. lovetox

    but very complicated

  24. lovetox

as this standard has no key distribution mechanism

  25. lovetox

you would need to gather out of bound all keys from the chat participants

  26. pinkolik

I think XMPP allows you to attach a public encryption key to your profile, right? Can't it just fetch from there?

  27. lovetox

we can fetch from many potential locations

  28. lovetox

the point is no one is standardized

  29. pinkolik

    ah okay I see

  30. lovetox

im not saying its a technical hard problem

  31. lovetox

there is a new openpgp XEP

  32. lovetox

its used by the OpenPGP Plugin

  33. pinkolik

Is it better than the old one?

  34. mkf

no new standard can be good

  35. Hund

lovetox: I'm on my computer now. How do I fix that debug log you asked for?

  36. nandi

    > no new standard can be good Why?

  37. lissine

Hund: in the top: View -> Debug console

  38. Hund

Hm. That didn't say much. :/

  39. lovetox

    preferences -> advanced -> debug

  40. lovetox

    restart your client

  41. Hund

    Oh

  42. diane

Hi i was wondering if it was possible to mark a MUC as being safe to automatically preview images in gajim? The chats preferences has a toggle for "preview in public group chats", but what counts as a private group chat?

  43. lovetox

every muc where you need to be invited

  44. lovetox

members only is the option called in group chat

  45. lovetox

you cannot set it per group chat, either all public groupchats or none

  46. donnerwetter

How can I switch off the status messages in this room I created digitaleraustausch@chat.hookipa.net?

  47. diane

Thanks tovetox. Though what if you're the admin and were the one who did the inviting?

  48. pinkolik

Hey guys. I'm trying to set up PGP chat between conversations and gajim. So when I send messages from conversations to gajim everything works fine but not the other way around. Do you have any idea what could it be?

  50. Kris

hmm, when you click download on a large file and then switch to another chat while it downloads, it stops the download

  51. Kris

    is that intended behaviour?

  52. Kris

    seems more like a bug

  53. lovetox

pinkolik, as the message says, you maybe dont have the key

  54. lovetox

hm that means you encrypted the message to the wrong key?

  55. lovetox

are you sure you set the right key for the contact in the chat in gajim?

  56. pinkolik

Yes. I intentionally tried to set the wrong one and gajim wouldn't let me

  57. pinkolik

That's what I get when I try to set a different key in gajim

  58. pinkolik

    https://jabber.tomatnoe-pivo.com:5443/upload/304550f9071a16aadb6a11259cc88ea0f1f43ff1/u0ANPiSUhNDuzmUSriqlO8Kkzdcbkl2N3mtGkSX7/31cf8e91-4579-4a43-b490-74a8088cbb7a.png

  59. lovetox

hm yeah so then it looks right

  60. lovetox

are you sure you trusted that key in PGP?

  61. lovetox

otherwise it probably will not encrypt to it

  62. pinkolik

On my PC there are two private keys, both of them were generated on this PC hence both are trusted (at least that's what gpg says). On my phone I have only one private key and the other one is public. Is there anything wrong with this configuration?

  63. lovetox

if you enable debug logging, for example gajim -v

  64. lovetox

the debug output is printed from gpg, then you can see if gpg encrypts to the key you want

  65. lovetox

if that is the case the problem is most likely on conversations side

  66. cal0pteryx

I opened an issue about things that still need to be done for the GTK4 port: https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/issues/12008 (for everybody interested)

  67. hannibal

cal0pteryx, you might want to add "replace gspell by https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/libspelling" to the list

  68. hannibal

gsound might also be an issue

  69. lovetox

what does gsound have to do with gtk?

  70. hannibal

It depends in libcanberra which seems to depend on gtk3
