I talked about this some in the XSF chat and it sounds a bit complex and ambiguous on what should be expected

I feel like it would be nice if gajim indicated that both accounts are the same

for example, the participant list could show fjklp (You) fjklp-mobile (Your other device) And messages from either should show in blue. I'm guessing the message database has a column to mark messages as being from me? It would be nice if gajim knew this and in the future we could search for messages from "me". ✏

So, if I understand, occupant-id isn't always used, which presents problems.

so, if both clients are online at the same time, status code 110 tells us the nick is ours, if not, occupant-id is needed

or you add a issue for conversation to change the nick when another app does it

but i feel this should already work with occupant-id

not sure if you consider it a bug but when you set a password for a muc, gajim doesn't store the password upon setting the password. It will prompt for a password on the next connect and store it at that time. Further connections auto-join.

A few days ago, I said that I missed some messages in Gajim (after upgrading from 1.93 to 1.9.5). This happened when I start Gajim and Gajim synchronises messages with the server. Just a moment ago, I recognised this behaviour again, but the I saw: There is no message missing, it is just sorted incorrectly. I had a discussion with a contact and Gajim showed the messages of my contact in one block and my answers in the last block. Was there some change with message sorting?

no it does not

I guess gajim doesn't support disabling styling at the protocol level. If you send a message like ' >_>' to a gajim client, the space will prevent quoting in gajim. I have no idea how other clients will show it.

shadowsworld, this means you contact has no encryption key published, or we cannot retrive them, this can have various reasons, like your contact not using a client that has encryption, or you are not subscribed to the contact (means seeing his status)

the logic is take nicknames of the last 50 messages we received

+ all participants

50 is too many, conversation topic must have been lost at that moment already

plus it would be much better if it suggested the live users first, and especially the one who just messaged you

usually you reply to messages

it does not matter if someone is online or not

so i would give recent messages priority

but indeed we gather all nicks from the last 30 days, is maybe a bit much

but im not sure it improves your situation

lovetox, to reply to a message I need to use a mouse, but I don't use it very often, I prefer using keyboard

plus replies are quite a new feature and everyone had been using nickname replies for years

by replying i meant writing the nickname

not using the reply functionality

there are 2 situations 1. you see a message and want to reply, you start typing the nickname 2. you just want to ping someone unrelated to any recent message, you start typing the nickname

gajim gives 1 priority because we think thats the most used case
