Gajim - 2024-10-06

  1. fjklp

    > then its a ejabberd thing again For the record, I see the same behavior with ejabberd and prosody

  2. fjklp

I talked about this some in the XSF chat and it sounds a bit complex and ambiguous on what should be expected

  3. fjklp

I feel like it would be nice if gajim indicated that both accounts are the same

  4. fjklp

for example, the participant list could show fjklp (You) fjklp-mobile (Your other device) And messages from either should show in blue. I'm guessing the message database has a column to mark messages as being from me? It would be nice if gajim knew this and in the future we could search from messages from "me".

  6. fjklp

I almost feel like this should be an issue

  7. fjklp

Singpolyma in XSF muc said: At a protocol level there are two ways. Status code 110 tells you that the other nick is also you. Also occupant id

  8. fjklp

Singpolyma in XSF muc said: >At a protocol level there are two ways. Status code 110 tells you that the other nick is also you. Also occupant id >For it to work perfectly in conjunction with mam occupant id would be needed

  9. fjklp

So, if I understand, occupant-id isn't always used, which presents problems.

  10. fjklp

so, if both clients are online at the same time, status code 110 tells us the nick is ours, if not, occupant-id is needed

  11. lovetox

or you add a issue for conversation to change the nick when another app does it

  12. lovetox

but i feel this should already work with occupant-id

  13. fjklp

not sure if you consider it a bug but when you set a password for a muc, gajim doesn't store the password upon setting the password. It will prompt for a password on the next connect and store it at that time. Further connections auto-join.

  14. lovetox

    thats not a bug

  15. lovetox

but could be improved, i dont understand why someone would set a password on a MUC though

  16. fjklp

    I'm not sure :)

  17. maximus

how is it that flatpak nightly version has a different typing indicator than gajim 1.9.5 release?

  18. lovetox

nightly is not updated at the moment

  19. lovetox

    its behind a few weeks

  20. maximus

so nightly is not nightly anymore? it's daily? lol sorry

  22. shadowsworld

    anyone got word for this?

  23. fjklp

    what gajim version?

  24. shadowsworld

idk the newest from website installer

  25. shadowsworld

    1.9.3 (Windows)

  26. shadowsworld

    no thoughts?

  27. shadowsworld

    its for AbNotif

  28. lovetox

disable encryption in the chat you are using?

  29. fjklp

shadowsworld: don't know. wait around and a dev will answer.

  30. p42ity

A few days ago, I said that I missed some messages in Gajim (after upgrading from 1.93 to 1.9.5). This happened when I start Gajim and Gajim synchronises messages with the server. Just a moment ago, I recognised this behaviour again, but the I saw: There is no message missing, it is just sorted incorrectly. I had a discussion with a contact and Gajim showed the messages of my contact in one block and my answers in the last block. Was there some change with message sorting?

  31. lovetox

    or install the encryption plugin

  32. shadowsworld

    where

  33. shadowsworld

not listed in the plugins tab as it's empty, is there a site resource for said item?

  34. shadowsworld

sorry potato, no wiki no brain.

  35. shadowsworld

    o7 me

  36. lovetox

what plugin do you want to download?

  37. shadowsworld

idk im trying to text someone

  38. shadowsworld

    just says that screenshot

  39. shadowsworld

you said to install the encryption plugin

  40. lovetox

go to the lock icon, select OMEMO, or disable

    💗 1
  41. shadowsworld

what plugin do I want? you said it. ok lemme check

  42. shadowsworld

    :O

  43. shadowsworld

    wow so simple <3

  44. shadowsworld

    gobbles

  45. shadowsworld

godbless lol my b im done here <3 :D

  46. betarays

does Gajim support disabling styling like this? https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0393.html#disable

  47. cal0pteryx

    betarays: nope

  48. betarays

okay, I was wondering if I was doing something wrong, thanks

  49. shadowsworld

    > go to the lock icon, select OMEMO, or disable when MEMO says no device querying, does it mean my contact is offline & unreachable? As MEMO or Unencrypted; if they were sending private messages as notifications automatically could I need to stay on MEMO although unable to communicate one way? or is unencrypted going to work better since it lets me send texts..? sorry newb to IRRC

  50. shadowsworld

    IRCC*

  51. fjklp

betarays: you can start a line with a space then > to prevent quoting.

  52. betarays

    > betarays: you can start a line with a space then > to prevent quoting. that wasn’t the issue

  53. betarays

oh, wait, I realize my question was ambiguous

  54. betarays

I mean, if Gajim receives a message like this one, does it disable styling or not?

  55. betarays

(not “can I disable styling with Gajim”)

  56. lovetox

    no it does not

  57. fjklp

I guess gajim doesn't support disabling styling at the protocol level. If you send a message like ' >_>' to a gajim client, the space will prevent quoting in gajim. I have no idea how other clients will show it.

  58. lovetox

shadowsworld, this means you contact has no encryption key published, or we cannot retrive them, this can have various reasons, like your contact not using a client that has encryption, or you are not subscribed to the contact (means seeing his status)

  59. shadowsworld

ah okay, how do you see their status/subscribe would you say?

  60. shadowsworld

i verified the jabber by PGP on a site of mine I use

  61. lovetox

if you click the information button in the chat on the top

  62. lovetox

    there is a settings tab

  63. fjklp

I guess I usually assume people are just gajim users and not writing clients

  64. lovetox

there you can see "contact can see my status" and "contact allows to see his status"

  65. lovetox

one needs to be enable and the other one needs a checkmark

  66. lovetox

its like a friend request on facebook

  67. lovetox

your contact needs to accept it

  68. shadowsworld

    information button?

  69. lovetox

top of the application there are multiple buttons

  70. shadowsworld

    5 on top right

  71. shadowsworld

two on top left besides the banner down and windows gajim/accounts/view/help

  72. lovetox

top right, click them, learn what they do

  73. shadowsworld

    information.

  74. shadowsworld

im following steps not fondling tech

  75. shadowsworld

    sorry xD

  76. shadowsworld

is I can see status and share status something a "notification" bot accepts tho?

  77. shadowsworld

sorry, I think i got it, you meant details

  78. mrdoctorwho

gajim still suggests nicknames of the users that are not in the chat, restart doesn't help

  79. lovetox

    yes thats intended

  80. lovetox

the logic is take nicknames of the last 50 messages we received

  81. lovetox

    + all participants

  82. mrdoctorwho

50 is too many, conversation topic must have been lost at that moment already

  83. mrdoctorwho

plus it would be much better if it suggested the live users first, and especially the one who just messaged you

  84. lovetox

    usually you reply to messages

  85. lovetox

it does not matter if someone is online or not

  86. lovetox

so i would give recent messages priority

  87. lovetox

but indeed we gather all nicks from the last 30 days, is maybe a bit much

  88. lovetox

but im not sure it improves your situation

  89. mrdoctorwho

lovetox, to reply to a message I need to use a mouse, but I don't use it very often, I prefer using keyboard

  90. mrdoctorwho

plus replies are quite a new feature and everyone had been using nickname replies for years

  91. lovetox

by replying i meant writing the nickname

  92. lovetox

    not using the reply functionality

  93. lovetox

there are 2 situations 1. you see a message and want to reply, you start typing the nickname 2. you just want to ping someone unrelated to any recent message, you start typing the nickname

  94. lovetox

gajim gives 1 priority because we think thats the most used case

  95. mrdoctorwho

lovetox, there is a catch with #2 and you are the perfect example

  96. mrdoctorwho

lovetox, I start typing "lo", it suggests me lovetox__, then lorenzo and only after those two it suggests lovetox

  97. lovetox

yes i agree thats a bug

  98. mrdoctorwho

    catch with #1, sorry

  99. mrdoctorwho

I'm not sure how that was before, but it appeared to me like that it had been giving the priority to the one nickname that messaged you the last time

  100. mrdoctorwho

I think I can deal with the given priority to the last messages

  101. lovetox

this broke probably with the new database code

  102. lovetox

probably we dont retrive the messages in the right order anymore

  103. mrdoctorwho

    I see

  104. lovetox

    https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/issues/12003

  105. lovetox

i added a issue to track that

  106. mrdoctorwho

    thank you lovetox

  107. jima

    рускоговорящие есть?

  108. cal0pteryx

jima, this room's language is english

  109. deuill

Hi friends, does anyone know how to leave a MUC permanently from Gajim?

  110. deuill

I'm not sure if grug brain or something else going on

  111. cal0pteryx

deuill, just close it in gajim. if it comes back, either another client added it again or your server's bookmarks handling is broken

  112. deuill

Closing doesn't remove it from bookmarks, though, right?

  113. deuill

Specifically I'm trying to test XEP-0077 `<remove />` for Slidge, and I can't find how to trigger it

  114. cal0pteryx

you can right-click on it in Start Chat

  115. deuill

    Ah, thanks! Let's see...

  116. deuill

Hm, that seems to only send `<presence type="unavailable" />` to the MUC, not `<remove />`

  117. Exord

    > рускоговорящие есть? ?

  118. XRevan86

"Are there Russian speakers here?" Конечно же, ни одного.

    😁 2
  119. lovetox

deuill, if you close a group chat, Gajim ask you if you just want to leave, or leave permanently

  120. lovetox

the later sends a unregister request

  121. lovetox

    if thats your question

  122. deuill

Ah, I think I might've clicked the "Don't ask me again" checkbox in the past then (assuming there is one).

  123. lovetox

you can revert that in the advanced config editor

  124. deuill

Ah, cool, found it! Thanks a million!
