hi all, is it possible to get plugins on flatpak? I listed them with `flatpak search gajim.plugin` but only showed PGP-related plugins
-
hannibal
These are the only plugins currently provided for flatpak. What plugin do you need?
-
maximus
abbreviation expander
-
hannibal
Depending on the number of people interested in a plugin, more could be provided via flathub.
-
hannibal
Till then you could try to build it locally
-
maximus
oh alright, may it introduce problems with future updates of gajim?
-
hannibal
I think the only problem could be that the plugin is not loaded after some updates of gajim, because of API or runtime changes. But gajim itself should always start.

maximus
I see I see, thanks

dude, what is this server

fjklp
sigh

fjklp
I'm not sure if the above image works for you guys but it shows something that I've experienced a few times recently where the chat banner has no avatar but the chat does have an avatar in the chat list

I'm saying it again: gajim.org should not be a public provider
👍 2 -
fjklp
100% agree, I hope I can't login soon, lol

> I'm saying it again: gajim.org should not be a public provider I think this needs to be directed to asterix with an unambiguous acknowledgement ↺

Hi, I was asking about that a few back, but couldn't get around investigating it further. in my flatpak version I can't save media or upload media. And trying to do so 2 or 3 times crashes gajim without any kind of message. Suggestions on what to do?
-
julian
on a side note, I can't download media in a zoom chat either - might be due to flatseal? ?? Don't know
-
fjklp
I don't think I had to change any permissions for gajim flatpak. Did you change default settings? Have you tested this with more than one xmpp account on different servers?
-
asterix
It's no more possible to register an account on gajim.org xmpp server
👍 1❤ 1 -
julian
I'm not aware that I changed something. Can't recall if I installed gajim first and than flatseal or vice versa. No, only got this account. I installed gajim on another laptop, with the same issues.
-
fjklp
julian: I'd try making an account with a known-good server and see if it works
-
fjklp
but it would be nice if you could get debug logs for the crash
-
julian
Suggestions? And how would that solve the zoom issue.
-
fjklp
oh, well, I suppose you might have flatpak/OS issues, so no idea what's going on
-
julian
> but it would be nice if you could get debug logs for the crash I tried activating the toggle last time. Not sure if it works. And where should I post the log?
-
fjklp
there could be personal stuff in the log so use your own disgression. You could send it in a pm to lovetox, I think
-
julian
🤔 thinking of booting a live distro and install gajim there. If it works there it must be something I changed
-
julian
> You could send it in a pm to lovetox, I think 👍
-
julian
the toggle for debug log is ON, but clicking the folder icon does nothing. Where can I find it?
-
fjklp
should be ~/.var/app/org.gajim.Gajim/data/gajim/debug
-
lovetox
julian: that's almost certainly flatseal
-
lovetox
Gajim simply has no permission as it seems
-
julian
lovetox: suggestions how to check that? As I said I'm not aware I changed a setting. For zoom I think I toggled "use hardware acceleration" as scrolling the chat there causes tearing. Yesterday I saw that it still does, so I give up with BS zoom (damn I'm forced to use it)
-
fjklp
isn't gajim crashing always worth looking into?
-
lovetox
Yes if someone uses the application like it is dustributed
-
lovetox
If someone adds external applications to remove capabilities of the application then I don't see that as a support case
🤔 2 -
lovetox
It's easy to test
-
fjklp
I might try
-
lovetox
Remove Gajim from flatseal see if the problem still exists
-
fjklp
but the thing is, flatseal shows no filesystem permissions given except the gnupg directories
-
fjklp
somehow it's able to access everything. I don't really know how flatpak perms work but that makes it seem like it does nothing
-
julian
> Remove Gajim from flatseal see if the problem still exists how do I do that? I don't see a button "remove / delete or such" just a reset ↺
-
julian
which is greyed out, as I just realized
-
julian
LOL, opening the "documentation" just opens a blank white window. I kind of think, flatseal doesn't work on MX Linux :D
-
julian
deinstalled flatseal - let's see if I can open the folder for the debug now
-
julian
no, clicking folder icon in settings, nothing happens. And yes I closed and restarted gajim but have not restarted my whole system
-
julian
and gajim crashes if I click multiple times of a pics, to save as, or open folder in a chat. for the crash, I would need the last bits of the log created before the crash, right?
-
lovetox
Yes
-
fjklp
maybe uninstall and reinstall to make sure permissions are right
-
lovetox
buy a new computer
-
fjklp
lol what

julian: I think you need a package related to portals, like xdg-desktop-portal-gtk
-
julian
> julian: I think you need a package related to portals, like xdg-desktop-portal-gtk shouldn't these kind of things be included in a flatpak? Checking my PackageInstaller, I see a Paket: xdg-desktop-portal-gtk Version: 1.14.1-1 being able to be installed. Sounds like it really need such a thing. The question, running XFCE, is it really the Gnome one I need? ↺

Update to the latest version

Anfeald
What is needed to get spell check to function, I can't get it to work with the package from my repo or the flatpak, using Linux
-
Anfeald
my install says gspell is missing, but it's installed on my system
-
hannibal
Anfeald, it should work with flatpak out of the box; for the repo version you might need the python bindings for gspell
-
hannibal
check gajim package info in your distribution for optional dependencies
-
Anfeald
Yeah I am surprised the flatpak didn't work, the Dino flatpak has the same issue
-
hannibal
Maybe you see what's the problem, if you start the flatpak version from commandline.
-
moparisthebest
you could just... not use flatpak, guaranteed to solve 100% of flatpak issues
-
hannibal
julian, according to https://flatpak.github.io/xdg-desktop-portal/ `xdg-desktop-portal-xapp` is the recommended portal for xfce
