Gajim - 2024-09-26

  1. jane

hello, I just started using Gajim, and am finding my way. I'm tech-phobic

  2. jane

gajim goes to the latest message, different to TG which goes to where I read up to last time. Is there a setting somewhere to change it?

  3. fjklp

There is no setting for that, presently. I think it is planned to implement that at some point.

  4. jane

    ok, thank-you

  5. fjklp

jane: here is the merge request for that feature. In other words, the code is already written, so it will likely end up in gajim. https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/merge_requests/960

  6. jane

    that's wonderful

  7. jane

    I have another question

  8. jane

I am not seeing pictures. Is there some way to?

  9. fjklp

This is is unfortunately a bit tricky. Gajim seems to have a persistent problem with avatars, but it's hard to know if this is gajim's fault because it could be problems with servers. Gajim might be very slow to download all the avatars, but sometimes it just plain doesn't show them.

  10. fjklp

are you not seeing any avatars, or just some?

  11. fjklp

jane: or did you mean pictures that someone has uploaded to the chat?

  12. jane

I'm not sure what you mean by avatars. I am looking at a channel that bridges to TG. In TG I see pictures that people post but the same post in Gagim shows onlt the text underneath it. Is that an avatar?

  13. fjklp

An avatar is the picture next to a participant's name, or it is the picture next to the name of the chat room. You are talking about regular pictures as file uploads.

  14. jane

    yes that s right

  15. fjklp

  16. fjklp

do you see that image? does it appear the same as the ones you are having a problem with?

  17. jane

no, I see a rectangle that says gajim with numbers underenath

  18. fjklp

heh, I think that is a description of the image. Does it say "Gajim - A fully-featured XMPP client"?

  19. jane

    Yes

  20. fjklp

ok, that is an image that I sent. I guess I picked a confusing one.

  21. jane

    oh, sorry. I didn't understand

  22. fjklp

    yeah, I understand :)

  23. jane

I think maybe it is fixed for new messages from now on then, but not old ones

  24. fjklp

so, is that image that I sent appearing differently from the chat that is bridged to telegram?

  25. jane

Thank-you very much for helping me. i feel silly

  26. fjklp

meaning, does the telegram bridged channel have the surrounding box like the image I uploaded?

  27. fjklp

meaning, do uploaded images in the telegram bridged channel have the surrounding box like the image I uploaded?

  28. jane

I couldn't see images at all, just nothing. But then I switched a setting, and now I can see the image you put, but the old one is still missing

  29. fjklp

does the upload have a box around it?

  30. jane

yes a box, with a folder button under it

  31. fjklp

what happens if you click the icon on the left side of that box?

  32. fjklp

there should be a placeholder icon, not the folder icon or the download icon at bottom-right

  33. fjklp

there should be a placeholder icon at the left, not the folder icon or the download icon at bottom-right

  34. jane

no there is only folder or download

  35. fjklp

is there a URL (web address) contained in the box?

  36. jane

i copied to clipboard, will try to show you

  38. fjklp

That is my image. I was asking about the chat that is bridged to telegram

  39. jane

I copy that one too, one sec

  41. fjklp

I don't know what I'm looking at here. I thought you said that images were not showing?

  42. jane

    sorry

  43. jane

the black part is an image in TG

  44. jane

In Gajim its mssing, shall I copy it?

  45. fjklp

I can only help with gajim stuff

  46. fjklp

    go ahead

  48. jane

that's what should be the same, bidged

  49. jane

that's what should be the same, bridged

  50. fjklp

it looks like the bridge is either incapable or not configured to send images

  51. jane

really, ok, that makes sense. thank-you once gain for your wonderful help. i appreciate it a lot

  52. fjklp

    no problem

  53. fjklp

jane: you are always welcome to ask questions about gajim in here but I wanted to mention that general questions about xmpp-related stuff can be asked in xmpp:support@joinjabber.org?join

  54. fjklp

not that you need to worry too much about where your question belongs. I just wanted to mention it since I guess you are new :)

  55. drakos

i'm having an issue with fetching adhoc commands on my server, it seems only server admins are able to fetch the command list from the muc component. server is prosody. any suggestions?

  56. drakos

(muc is loaded into disco_items btw)

  57. aereaux

    > i'm having an issue with fetching adhoc commands on my server, it seems only server admins are able to fetch the command list from the muc component. server is prosody. any suggestions? Probably best to ask in the prosody room: xmpp:prosody@conference.prosody.im?join

  58. drakos

thanks, i'm in there as well i thought i'd try here first :)

  59. fjklp

When is this flatpak issue going to be fixed? I'm going through withdrawals here, man. I need to update!

  60. moparisthebest

    fjklp: install arch Linux

  61. fjklp

I mean the nightly. Arch ended up how far behind on the gajim package?

  62. moparisthebest

Install Arch Linux and compile your own Gajim on every commit then

  63. lovetox

fjklp: building Gajim nightly as flatpak is only like 3 commands there is a readme

  64. hannibal

Gajim on Arch is on 1.9.4, so only about 5 commits behind master

  65. fjklp

    > Gajim on Arch is on 1.9.4, so only about 5 commits behind master Yes, but they were recently very late to update the package to the latest release.

  66. Fuwupe

    xmpp

  67. cal0pteryx

    Fuwupe: ?

  68. Fuwupe

    oh sorry
