Gajim - 2024-09-19

  1. fjklp

    > Good Morning(CEST) :) When I want to use a password secured conference room, I always have to enter the password after starting Gajim. I do use gnome keyring, but it seems to me that Gajim doesn't (here). Anything I could do? I use Gajim 1.7.3-2 from Debian bookworm with sway as window manager. Cancel my last message. Looks like gajim is not storing the password. It's a bug.

  2. fjklp

    Markus: ^

  3. Markus

fjklp: thanks for the test and confirmation! I'll write a bug report.

  4. fjklp

Markus: feel free to write the bug report but I was going to do it if you don't

  5. nicoco

    > but I already head people that gajim is "wasting display real-estate" Hey, that’s me! 😊

  6. Lightning Bjornsson (they, he, xe/hir)

jes, en la pasinteco ĝi estis pli ŝparema (verŝajne mi devas «fork» Gajim-on kaj ĝisdatigi la tradukojn al Esperanto) (ankaŭ, ĝis neniam!)

  7. fjklp

    > > but I already head people that gajim is "wasting display real-estate" > Hey, that’s me! 😊 nicoco: lol. Out of curiosity, what do you think of the layout test in that image? Would you be one of the objectors?

  8. nicoco

Not a fan of it, maybe with a smaller font, less vertical padding/margins, but if wursteryx thinks it’s bad, I trust him! I think the current floating thing is OK, I wish it would unfold on hover instead of click, that’s all.

  9. fjklp

I really dislike the current notification style. It covers the avatar which is annoying. Then expanding it covers text which is more annoying. While I get that a "blank line" isn't exactly desirable, I think it might be the better solution. Again, I *know* some people will complain, so I think an option to disable it, regardless of style, is in order.

  10. fjklp

    >maybe with a smaller font, less vertical padding/margins I had been thinking this too

  11. mrdoctorwho

gajim nick suggestion (with tab button) doesn't work as it worked long time ago in older gajim versions. Previously it suggested the last nickname that messaged you, but now it not only doesn't do that, but also suggests nicknames that are not currently in chat

  12. cal0pteryx

    mrdoctorwho: which gajim version?

  13. fjklp

mrdoctorwho: that should be fixed as of 1.9.2

  14. mrdoctorwho

cal0pteryx, I think one of the most recent ones, I'm using gajim from git, last time I pulled was yesterday I think, I'm on the master branch

  15. cal0pteryx

nicoco: I'll look at the read marker icon situation as soon as I can ;)

  16. fjklp

what do you see when you tab complete in this chat? It seems to work for me.

  17. mrdoctorwho

    cat_petter_2012 is the first one

  18. mrdoctorwho

and they're not in the chat

  19. mrdoctorwho

    I'm on b85c84561848c16bdcc559e1212125a686534441

  20. nicoco

cal0pteryx: Awesome. I won’t have to rage destroy my computer then <3

  21. fjklp

    I know that feeling

  23. lovetox

    ^ should be fixed, debacle

  24. jonas’

Is it known that the chat views break when someone pastes a really long link?

  25. jonas’

(break = you'd have to scroll horizontally, but there are no horizontal scroll bars)

  26. jonas’

    https://uc.xmpp.zombofant.net/b5a08908-ebb6-4de3-906f-74f7c9e229bd/url-foo.png

  27. jonas’

FTR, the text of the second-to-last message in that screenshot should read "and from there on out, any longer text, such as this one, will not be completely visible unless you scroll to the right, which you cannot do because there's no horizontal scrollbar."

  28. fjklp

    > Is it known that the chat views break when someone pastes a really long link? will be fixed in next vrelease

  29. jonas’

    :+1:

  30. jonas’

is it also known that the newest message scrolls out of view when someone starts typing?

  31. cal0pteryx

jonas’: also fixed in the upcoming release :)

  32. jonas’

    excellent

  33. fjklp

I didn't know about that one

  34. cal0pteryx

Can be observed in group chats without a description set (for example)

    > https://upload.spacecloud.one:5281/file_share/66236550-3d7a-47fd-bce8-eab316729fad/typing-indicator.jpg remove the line above the chatstate box, then it does not look like something is wasted, rather that just not enough messages are in the view

    👍 1
  36. jonas’

could also move the buttons up there.

    🤣 1
  37. jonas’

    makes the input box wider

  38. debacle

    > ^ should be fixed, debacle Great, thank you!

  39. cat_petter_2012

    > cat_petter_2012 is the first one what is it? I miss the conversation

  40. cat_petter_2012

If you are about password for GPG key your distro also plays role (or at least your gpg-agent version)

  41. fjklp

    > remove the line above the chatstate box, then it does not look like something is wasted, rather that just not enough messages are in the view I almost suggested the same thing. I think it's worth trying.

  42. fjklp

I really don't know if I should be including logs in cases where the problem will likely be reproducible for the person fixing a bug

  43. fjklp

like in this case, the muc password not being stored

  44. lovetox

dont need logs for that if its reproducable

    👍 1
  45. lovetox

yeah we dont store it in bookmarks

  46. fjklp

don't as in don't intend to?

  47. fjklp

the logs make it look like it is supposed to be stored in bookmarks somehow. I don't understand all this bookmark stuff.

  48. lovetox

hmmm weird, reading the code this should work

  49. lovetox

hm no its not stored in the bookmarks

  50. fjklp

I did check in the pep configuration myself, nothing there

  60. actrawave

Hi everybody, is it normal for Gajim to take ~30 seconds to fetch all messages?

  61. Kris

if you are in large active chats, yes

  62. Kris

if you are in many large active chats, yes

  63. actrawave

    > if you are in many large active chats, yes Okay, thank you
