    Correct

  2. hyol

Is anonymous login supported on version 1.7.3?

  3. fjklp

hyol: I don't know if it works but it is an option

  4. fjklp

hyol: are you having problems with it?

  5. hyol

No. I couldn't find the option.

  6. fjklp

hyol: in case you never found it, you go to Accounts>Manage Accounts>Add Account>Sign Up and tick the bock for Sign up Anonymously. The server must support it.

  8. turds

hey im having issues enabling my first account

  9. hyol

    Ty fjklp

  10. hyol

I would prefer something ephemeral and per-join though.

  11. hyol

Like simplex chat's "incognito chats" feature.

    > hey im having issues enabling my first account What issues are you having?

  14. hyol

    > I would prefer something ephemeral and per-join though. It would also be cool if you could have a different Tor circuit for each join.

  15. hyol

    Maybe TCP isolation as well.

  16. kalkin

The more I read about protobuf, the more I realise it's a huge mistake. 🙄We shouldn't have copied whatever signal does. Oh, well...

  17. lissine

    kalkin: use OpenPGP for XMPP

  18. kalkin

lissine: it's a different beast with different security properties.

  19. kalkin

lissine: also im not going to install open Keychain, generate gpg key and do all other magic rituals to just on each device my normie family has. Omemo is just simpler

  22. lissine

kalkin: then simply wait for MLS

  23. kalkin

    lissine: MLs?

  24. kalkin

    lissine: MLS?

  25. Kris

new e2ee scheme similar to OMEMO

  26. Kris

but better suited for group chatd

  27. Kris

but better suited for group chats

  28. lissine

    kalkin: Messaging Layer Security https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9420.html

  29. kalkin

    Thanks ❤️

  30. kalkin

lissine: is there some one working on it bringing it to xmpp world?

  31. lissine

Not that I'm aware of Client developers are mostly waiting for MLS libraries for the programming languages they use

  32. meson

kalkin: https://nlnet.nl/project/XMPP-MLS/ from last year but I don't know the outcome

  33. kalkin

    Hmm, Ic. Thank you meson.

  34. nicoco

The forge has been slooooow for pulling/pushing for a few days. is there an ongoing attach or something?

  36. cal0pteryx

Gajims GitLab instance? I haven't noticed

  37. nicoco

Yes. Web UI is fine, but from git CLI push and pulls take about 1 minute or so

  39. Kris

the entire site was down a few days ago. maybe there are still some issues with it?

  40. Ichtyx

    is MLS quantum resistant ?

  41. maximus

    > new e2ee scheme similar to OMEMO will this be rolled out on XMPP or is it just fuss?

    > new e2ee scheme similar to OMEMO will this be actually rolled out on XMPP or is it just fuss?

  43. Kris

    currently being worked on.

  44. Kris

for the new xep and example implementation n Dino afaik

  45. Kris

for the new xep and example implementation in Dino afaik

  46. Kris

there is a NLnet grant for it.

  47. Kris

    Ichtyx: quantum resistance is snake-oil.

  48. The Wild

What's quantum resistance supposed to be ?

  49. anontor

    > What's quantum resistance supposed to be ? encryption reistant to be being broken by a quantaum computer.

  51. Ichtyx

Kris: why ? I mean for now yes, but why build something now that can be destroy in the futur ?

  52. Kris

because no one really knows what real quantum computers will be capable off and the post quantum cryptographic contests regularly end with proposed algorithms turning out no better than existing regular ones or sometimes significantly worse.

  53. Kris

its an interesting research field, but anyone "selling" this right now is a charlatan.

  54. Kris

and yes I know this includes Signal.

  55. Kris

but they pretty much lost all credibility when they started peddling with crypto currencies and Moxy also left.

  56. Kris

(I think the regular signal encryption is fine though, just a bit older by now).

  57. Ichtyx

I known some cryptographers and they told me kyber is good

  58. Ichtyx

Also ssh default to quantum resistant algo

  59. Ichtyx

    Openbsd/ssh people are not charlatan
