danielstein: I'd like to work on Gajim's new action center, see https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/issues/11677 for an overview

..and the Windows store version needs some attention. So there will also be some work

cal0pteryx: I don't know if you saw my previous comment, but how do you feel about the possibility of changing the pending message lines so that they have the same line height as a normal line? Currently, they always show my nick, current time, and pending icon, which makes them taller than a single line when using the setting to combine lines? (can't find the setting). This current way results in a jarring effect that every time I post a message, there is a brief display of a what I just described, followed by a less tall line.

The only problem is, I don't have a suggestion on how it might look right now, since the pending icon has to go somewhere. Maybe the pending line could be shaded differently and a pending icon could overlay it? not sure.

fjklp: messages only get merged if certain properties match. A pending message can't be merged with a sent message. That's why there is a 'lag' which briefly shows them separate, then merged. This does not only affect the 'pending' icon, but all meta data. I'm not sure how this could be done better

  12. cal0pteryx

Personally, I don't often see any lag

It definitely is partly dependent on server response time. I have an account that is slow to respond, so I frequently see this. (I don't think this should undermine the reality of the problem)
