Gajim - 2024-07-18

A bit of progress with the auth problem. It is triggered by changing VPN nodes between countries, at least sometimes. Chosen mechanism seems to always be SCRAM-SHA-256. Any idea how that might cause it? When it fails, it is <failure xmlns='urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-sasl'><not-authorized/></failure> response.

Ask the server operator

Should be easy to debug if you can reproduce it

I doubt that gajims sends a different password when you switch to vpn

But even that would be easy to check

hi there,somebodz knows how to appear offline to somebody but still being able to receive messages in gajim?

I tried blocking...but then I can't receive messages anymore and the other person is spammed with error-messages...

...not exactly what I intended...

I haven't learned how scram works yet. When it fails, gajim sends: <auth xmlns="urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-sasl" mechanism="SCRAM-SHA-256">somestring</auth> then receives from the server: <failure xmlns='urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-sasl'><not-authorized/></failure> there is no challenge and response

there is also a function "mute chat" but I'm not sure what this will do...

...and of course there is the "available"-button on my profile's page...but this sets the availability to everyone...

What does it mean, if Gajim shows an orange warning triangle next to my username in a personal chat with someone else? The tooltip is "recipient unavailable". Did Gajim try to connect my self?

it means the server sent us an error for this message

you can most likely ignore it

but server should be upgraded or fixed

they did that, if they cant reach one of your devices they send you an error back

but message goes anyway into the archive and everything is fine
