The thing is there is nothing wrong server side, tls is working just fine, I can connect on my account (both monocles chat and dino, gajim 1.9.1 isn't ported to FreeBSD 14.1-RELEASE yet), but they keep getting this prompt
-
Polarian
as far as I am aware, none of the settings have changed, he was talking to me last night, turned his pc off, and then today when loading gajim he can't connect securely (which I assume means tls is failing)

He should check account Connection settings
-
lovetox
He has enabled unencrypted connection

Thanks I will tell him that :)

Hi there! For the Gajim devs, I was wondering if you are open to "sponsorship" of sorts, where a company would pay to support Gajim and also to implement (small) features in it? Random example of feature: add a setting so that OMEMO is on by default in private rooms. Or per-room automatic pruning of chat history after a certain time. Feel free to message me to discuss more if you want.

palkeotest: how much money we talking here?

ong: you can message the user privately to find out

Hello

palkeotest, FYI, you can already enable default omemo encryption everywhere in 1.9.0

Also i would say, first try to raise a feature request with your needs, to see maybe it gets implemented without sponsoring

> Also i would say, first try to raise a feature request with your needs, to see maybe it gets implemented without sponsoring Sounds good, I wanted to feel the waters about the option to maybe implement specific features we'd need, basically. There seem to be a nice reactive community which is nice already :)

On the easy-xmpp-invitation (that e.g. powers https://xmpp.link ) the question came up about whether, for Gajim, we should link Windows users to gajim.org or to the MS Store directly. Thoughts?

Hey MattJ, its indeed a problem that windows marks everything downloaded from some site as "should better not install", for experienced users its usually no problem to find the hidden clicks to install it anyway, but many users will probably not install it. You can only circumvent this if you pay for a license and sign your binaries. Thats why we also publish on the msstore, there microsoft checks the binary and signs it, so its easy for users to install.
-

i would say if there is only one link you want to promote, do the msstore version
-
lovetox
the question for me is, does this site detect the OS?
-
lovetox
of course it should not link to msstore when the user uses linux

Hello guys, I'm new on gajim, I have a question, people can see that I'm on a gajim session if I start up gajim, how do I disable that? And is there any other privacy settings to disable?
-
fjklp
flexx: how is it that you think people know you are using gajim?
-
flexx
As soon as I fired up gajim he said there is your gajim session.
-
flexx
He is the server owner too, so he might see it via his server?
-
fjklp
I haven't actually gotten into figuring this stuff out but I think this comes from the resource setting in Accounts>YourAccount>Connection>Resource. There might be other things that gajim sends that reveal that it's gajim.
-
fjklp
But I think you need to have something here. You might consider that removing or changing 'gajim' will make you stand out.
-
fjklp
The thing is, you can't really keep it a secret from your server that you are connecting to your server, so maybe consider what you really want to do
-
flexx
I'm also using conversations on my phone can it be that too?
-
flexx
> The thing is, you can't really keep it a secret from your server that you are connecting to your server, so maybe consider what you really want to do That's true, but it's kind of scary that when I fire up a program he knows that I'm there.

flexx
I disabled status sharing

This is simply how things work. There's no avoiding it, except by running your own server. ↺
