Why does the plugin installation file picker close automatically while chat state is being refreshed right after the launch? It's weird and annoying.

I just updated my nightly flatpak and the quick button for the heart emoji shows as black and white

for some reason I'm not able to ctrl+v paste an image in currently nightly

when I try, it opens the file selector menu with no image showing

because its that way defined in the reaction XEP, i think 4000 possibilities to express your emotions should be enough

Hi everyone, when using Gajim, when I'm mentionned in a channel I can see the number of messages mentioning me for each workspace (the white number in blue circle), but not when they are new messages not mentioning me. Is it possible to enable this?

i guess you refering to public group chats?

you can go into the settings of the group chat, and enable "notify on all messages"

yes but that send a desktop notification and a sound for each message, I try to have a good balance, like: only numbered change when new messages (but no sound or desktop notification) and all notifications (sound + desktop notification) when it's a new message mentioning me

the problem on this issue seems to be "information": you think you have 8 unread mentions but in fact you have 1 unread mention and 7 messages, so it would be cool to have 2 unread messages indicators: - one for unread messages mentioning you (white number in orange circle for example) - one for total unread messages (white number in blue circle for example)

but my problem is about "notifications" and "workspaces": workspaces issue the same as your issue and notification is a new issue

and you want in general the total count there

so maybe the 2 circles with different colors could be a good solution?

no we will not have 2 badges on the workspace

what we will do is, have a badge on the workspace that shows always the total count of all messages

we will have a different icon in the sidebar which will open an activity stream

this new icon will have a badge with the count of activities or stuff which directly is targeted at you

so we will have 2 counters

activity will contain everything that needs your attention

someone invited you to a group chat, someone mentioned you, someone reacted to a message of yours, A message from the server admin that the server will shutdown in 1 hour, ...

oh ok, cool

if you click it you will see a list of all these Events, and you can further click them to jump to them or execute a action

another benefit of this is, you will be able to hide "read" events, but they will still be available, maybe you want to look back later when you remember someone mentioned you about a topic, but you cant remember anymore in which chat

I'm not sure I like this. Just an off the cuff thought. So, someone invites me to a chat and I don't get to it immediately. Then someone comes into one of my chats and spams me with 200 mentions. Now I have to scroll up 200 lines to get back to the invite that I possibly already forgot about?

well, this seems like a recurrent question: to combine or not to combine. Seems activity stream will combine notifications. And there is also a probable universal search, as mentioned in https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/issues/11402 . I similarly don't know if I like that. I guess I'd have to see it but it seems like it could be unweildy. ✏

right now, I have enable the "notify all messages" of this channel, I need to do this to have the badge with number of unread messages in the workspace, but it also send a desktop notification for each new message, and I only want the workspace badge with unread messages not the notifications

yeah and if mentions are separated and workspace shows always total count, you can disable it

meaning we dont need to change anything about notifications

why not just live with the count not showing the total ..

you can enable notify on all messages

but at the same time "Mute" the chat

I remove the sound but can't remove the notification, but yes I really want to see each unread messages of each workspaces instead of clicking on each workspace 50 times a day to see if there is new messages

then you will see total count, but dont get a notification

but then you also will get no notification when you are mentioned .. i think you have to choose whats worse for you
