Gajim - 2024-04-06

  1. agh

Where does Gajim inherit the user's locale from?

  2. fjklp

    > > I was assuming that the change would be to enable new features or functionality. Otherwise, why bother? > Yes, it _prepares_gajim for many things. They have to be implemented afterwards I understand that. I was wondering what user-facing changes are expected to happen soon afterward.

  3. cal0pteryx

Not sure yet, but possible features are message replies and reactions, since some of the implementation has been done already in other branches. But that's not news to you, I guess?

  4. cal0pteryx

    agh: your system

  5. cal0pteryx

fjklp: "expect" and "soon" are bothering me there :D no promises, as always

  6. lovetox

We need some testers for the database migration

  7. lovetox

If someone is interested backup the database, and check out the storage branch

  8. hannibal

Is there a way to remove the group chat avatar?

  9. lovetox

    seems there is not

  10. lovetox

on one hand i think it should probably be possible, on the other hand, why would you not want a group chat avatar

  11. nicoco

lovetox: probably not today, but I’ll do test yes. Can you provide full instructions? `cp ~/.local/share/gajim{,.bak}` then launch the new DB branch and report whatever happens, then `mv ~.local/share/gajim{.bak,}` to get back to a working state if it breaks everything?

  12. lovetox

its not necessary to backup the whole share folder, just logs.db

  13. lovetox

then starting, waiting until migration is done, maybe check a few chats if messages are all there

  14. fjklp

If I test the database migration, will the messages from the time of testing get synced again when I switch back to my main database?

  15. fjklp

I don't know how gajim handles keeping track of what messages are synced

  16. lovetox

    In the database

  17. lovetox

So if you switch to the backup it will start off where you left

  18. lovetox

Just beware that's not true for omemo messages

  19. lovetox

They can only be once decrypted

  20. fjklp

Still confused. Example: I make backup, then run db migration branch. Someone in a chat says "message 1". I respond "message 2". I switch back to original database and standard gajim code. Does my original database get updated to include message 1 and message 2?

  21. fjklp

I'm happy to test but I won't if I might lose messages

  22. fjklp

    need to be sure

  23. lovetox

You don't lose messages if those are not omemo ones

  24. lovetox

to be totally safe, you could start a gajim instance with -c path

  25. lovetox

this will add a new config dir, in this instance you could add your account, and afterwards copy the database there

  26. lovetox

then its like a new device, and does not affect your other instance

Can anyone help me solve this problem?.

  33. lovetox

this is a message from your server, it does not allow you to contact users on this domain

  34. lovetox

either you misconfigured your server, or you need to talk to the admin of the server, its not a Gajim issue in any case
