wurstsalat pushed 1 commits to branch gajim/master imprv: ChatPage: Show workspace settings button on hover and move filter button next to search bar - https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/commit/c68af502a546a3363962b9b0215bbeb0c0e14064

  2. fjklp

sometimes I think it would be nice to be able to filter chats by account

  3. cal0pteryx

    What's the use case?

  4. fjklp

I'm not sure if I'll be able to recall the reasons right now

  5. fjklp

other than just trying to keep track of which accounts have been in what chats

  6. cal0pteryx

Then it's probably not that important :)

  7. fjklp

    important is relative I guess

  8. cal0pteryx

Sure. But you can't name a use case

  9. fjklp

well, I just did. The question is what qualifies as a "real reason"

  10. cal0pteryx

Keeping track of which chat is from which account is possible using the account color bar, which is added to each chat as soon as you enable a second account

  11. fjklp

I've found that to be unreliable as there is only so much color space and different accounts can have too similar colors.

  12. cal0pteryx

You are free to choose colors though. And people with more accounts than distinguishable colors.. :D

  13. fjklp

even if that worked perfectly, I'd prefer a filter since it's absolute and prevents me from having to manually look through all this stuff

  14. fjklp

one situation I've faced is considering deleting an account but wanting to see what chats it's in first

  15. cal0pteryx

make it colored pink -> easy

  16. cal0pteryx

My point is: this is a _rare_ situation. And I can't see that it's useful for the majority of gajim users, or even power users

  17. fjklp

anyone else who has ever desired a chat per account filter chime in, I would doubt I'm the only one, but who knows

  18. lovetox

question for me is also, why would you mix all accounts in one workspace

  19. lovetox

i would try to separate this more

  20. fjklp

One rationale here is that single workspace with filtering requires no work or foresight for the user. It is more efficient and less brittle.

  21. chud

is there a convenience method like XML2Node which will also convert it to Iq or Message appropriately

  22. cal0pteryx

chud: something for jdev, I think

  23. affrip

    Hello friends

  24. affrip

can someone try to send me a message to affrip@jabber.sk my friend tried but he says he can't

  25. Polarian

    > can someone try to send me a message to affrip@jabber.sk my friend tried but he says he can't what client is your friend using?

  26. affrip

Polarian, hes using xabber web client

  27. affrip

I think it's the problem you showed me

  28. affrip

    OMEMO

  29. affrip

Do I have to add them as a contact for it to work?

  30. Polarian

I don't believe you need them as a contact but you must have their JID

  31. Polarian

but then again movim you need them as a contact (bidirectional) before you can enable OMEMO

  32. Polarian

    so YMMV

  33. Polarian

affrip: xabber run their own server, it could be a issue on their end.. is their JID @xabber.com?

  34. Polarian

I can try a s2s test against xabber

  35. affrip

    no he's using @jabb.im

  36. Polarian

alright let me check I can reach jabb.im

  37. affrip

    https://upload.jabber.sk/upn2/eeec39574c96c103797d8ae340c5eb05db45826d/TlUC7tab7zHPGkXKETvV3SAvOaufsUE3hMtV59lJ/f1e25fa2-42e3-4294-b00e-0cd896162301.png

  38. affrip

do i need to enable any of those? I cloned the git repo into plugins folder it didn't have any before

  39. Polarian

    jabb.im is reachavle

  40. Polarian

unless he's blocked you, or visa versa there shouldn't be any issues here

  41. Polarian

though notably jabb.im appears IPv6 only

  42. fjklp

be aware that a server can be set to block non-contacts, which means you won't receive messages if they are not a contact

  43. Polarian

    sorry

  44. Polarian

    IPv4 only

  45. Polarian

    no IPv6

  46. fjklp

    it's terrible for user experience

  47. Polarian

    > be aware that a server can be set to block non-contacts, which means you won't receive messages if they are not a contact I have never known a server to do this.

  48. fjklp

is he added as a contact?

  49. affrip

that deosn't seem to be the case polarian tested sending me a message and it worked without contact

  50. affrip

    fjklp, no

  51. affrip

    I will try

  52. fjklp

    > that deosn't seem to be the case polarian tested sending me a message and it worked without contact then that is probably not the problem here

  53. Polarian

    >> that deosn't seem to be the case polarian tested sending me a message and it worked without contact > then that is probably not the problem here both servers are reachable from me

  54. affrip

    still I get nothing

  55. affrip

I'll tell him to try another client

  56. Polarian

so unless they have an issue connecting to each other...

  57. Polarian

    > still I get nothing what error do you get?

  58. affrip

no error on my side and he just sees the message as sent but I don't get anything

  59. Polarian

    > no error on my side and he just sees the message as sent but I don't get anything hm... you sure its not your side?

  60. affrip

I'm not sure but it worked when you dmed me so idk why it wouldn't for him

  61. affrip

you're nt on the same server as me right?

  62. affrip

    jabber.sk

  63. Polarian

    > no error on my side and he just sees the message as sent but I don't get anything you don't him as a contact so there shouldn't be send receipts... chance that he simply isn't connected?

  64. Polarian

    > you're nt on the same server as me right? I host 2 of my own XMPP servers, so no.

  65. affrip

Polarian, maybe, it's his first time using xmpp and I don't have a way to see what hes doing apart from what he told me I told him to install gajim we'll see if it works

  66. Polarian

    > Polarian, maybe, it's his first time using xmpp and I don't have a way to see what hes doing apart from what he told me I told him to install gajim we'll see if it works why xabber though...

  67. Polarian

I haven't used the client I don't know how well it works

  68. Polarian

    what device are they on?

  69. affrip

hes on a laptop with mac os iirc

  70. affrip

not sure why he chose xabber maybe it shows up for xmpp on google 😅️

  71. affrip

nah he says hes on linux mint

  72. affrip

oh it worked I got his message it was fricking xabber lmfaoo

  73. affrip

    thanks again polarian 🙏️

  74. Polarian

    no problem

  75. Polarian

    good luck :)
