sometimes I think it would be nice to be able to filter chats by account

What's the use case?

I'm not sure if I'll be able to recall the reasons right now

other than just trying to keep track of which accounts have been in what chats

well, I just did. The question is what qualifies as a "real reason"

Keeping track of which chat is from which account is possible using the account color bar, which is added to each chat as soon as you enable a second account

I've found that to be unreliable as there is only so much color space and different accounts can have too similar colors.

You are free to choose colors though. And people with more accounts than distinguishable colors.. :D

even if that worked perfectly, I'd prefer a filter since it's absolute and prevents me from having to manually look through all this stuff

one situation I've faced is considering deleting an account but wanting to see what chats it's in first

make it colored pink -> easy

My point is: this is a _rare_ situation. And I can't see that it's useful for the majority of gajim users, or even power users

anyone else who has ever desired a chat per account filter chime in, I would doubt I'm the only one, but who knows

question for me is also, why would you mix all accounts in one workspace

i would try to separate this more

One rationale here is that single workspace with filtering requires no work or foresight for the user. It is more efficient and less brittle.

is there a convenience method like XML2Node which will also convert it to Iq or Message appropriately

I don't believe you need them as a contact but you must have their JID

but then again movim you need them as a contact (bidirectional) before you can enable OMEMO

so YMMV

affrip: xabber run their own server, it could be a issue on their end.. is their JID @xabber.com?

do i need to enable any of those? I cloned the git repo into plugins folder it didn't have any before

unless he's blocked you, or visa versa there shouldn't be any issues here

though notably jabb.im appears IPv6 only

be aware that a server can be set to block non-contacts, which means you won't receive messages if they are not a contact

Polarian, maybe, it's his first time using xmpp and I don't have a way to see what hes doing apart from what he told me I told him to install gajim we'll see if it works

hes on a laptop with mac os iirc
