Gajim - 2024-02-24

hi all. this is probably a dumb question, but I can't find an answer anywhere. what is required to have gajim let you use the :emoji: type syntax to pick an emoji by name? I had it working on an old system, but set stuff up on a new one and it doesn't work and I can't figure out what I'm missing. this is with gajim built from git yesterday (1.8.4)

does the normal emoji picker work, the button to the left of the message input field?

yes, I can click it and search for stuff and all the emojis are there

yup, got all those

the only advice I could offer is to install a recent gajim package so the package manager will install or show what you need that you don't have. And if you have everything, see if the package works.

this is installed from gajim-git in Arch. everything else works fine, there's just no way to enter emojis with the colon syntax in the input box.

allie: lol, I just tested and it's not working for me either, no idea why or when it started

always possible it broke between when I last built it on the previous machine and when I built it on this one, but that should've only been like a few days difference lol

I don't know this code but there was a change a few days ago that seems like it might affect it

I am experiencing a weird issue where the block contact button turn gray and can't be used at all and i have to disconnect from the account and connect again to make it work. does anyone have a similar issue ?

I checked the xml console log but could not find anything related to this issue. what do i need to look for in case of it happening again ? it does happen randomly from time to time though

checking in the advanced option in the accounts menubar the "blocking list" is also gray can't be opened and at the same time the "archiving preferences" is also gray

Am I the only one who's emojis are no longer in colour, all still there in B&W, that's on Debian nightly. Been looking for a solution for days.

I'm on nightly and they are color for me

I am running Debian sid, I don't know if that makes any difference, anyway just found a solution create folder .local/share/fonts and download from Google Noto Color Emoji (it is already installed on system) and it works 👍️

cal0pteryx, when opening gajim for the first time everything is ok you just use it and chat with people not realizing it and happens off randomly and I am not sure how to reproduce the issue. today i just happened to right click on a contact in the roster and found the"Block" gray while it used to be enabled when i first opened it. i tend to leave my client open all the time

and it is been opened since the 18th

and if i remember correctly this issue happened in all versions i used from 1.3.1 up to latest 1.8.4

and in my older jid server which was using ejabberd and current new one which is using prosody

you see the error because encryption seems to be activated but your contact does not support it

so disable it then you can talk

yeah if you really want to solve the issue you are facing from your side

but the correct approach is just to tell them to fix their server or make sure the use a proper supported client

pidgin does not support OMEMO or any kind of encryption let them install Gajim and your problem will be solved

all I know is that Pidgin support for OMEMO does not exist or if it does last time I did a look it was using a plugin that is highly experimental in pidgin so i would avoid using pidgin if you want true OMEMO encryption

also pidgin is looks like 2000's stuff lol

danielstein, ist called security label, its something you can attach to a message, its only shown if the server or groupchats enables and supports it
