Gajim - 2024-01-22

  1. debacle

A Debian user can't start Gajim anymore. I guess, that there is an incompatible package now: https://bugs.debian.org/1061281 They already downgraded packages appearing in the backtrace, but so far without success. Any idea, which Python library is the culprit here? TIA!

  2. lovetox

    Seems to be sentry

  3. lovetox

    He can see install sentry-sdk

  4. lovetox

    It's only optional

  5. lovetox

    *deinstall

  6. topgun

i tried runing gajim today on my FreeBSD, but Ididnt find the option to use OMEMO. Am I blind, or this option really doesnt exist in FreeBSD?

  7. topgun

i saw this option on Gajim in Manjaro, but not in FreeBSD

  8. lovetox

Depends what Gajim version u use

  9. topgun

the freebsd version is a little older

  10. lovetox

You may need the omemo plugin then

  11. topgun

    ill check the version

  12. topgun

oh, i see. in freebsd, gajim is version 1.3.3

  13. topgun

    thats too old, right?

  14. topgun

i read its old because freebsd has only python 3.9

  15. agh

    That is correct

  16. agh

Also the update to nbxmpp or whatever it is requires an update go gobject, which was very tricky

  17. agh

There is currently work underway to make Python-3.11 the default

  18. topgun

    Do you use FreeBSD?

  19. agh

topgun: Yes. I also added the omemo-dr plugin required for a Gajim update in FreeBSD.

  20. topgun

Do this means I can just switch the plugin on?

  21. agh

    No.

  22. agh

omemo-dr will be required for 1.8.x. The current 1.3.x Port has an OMEMO option. Tho I recall it no longer working sometime ago.

  23. agh

    topgun: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=274490

  24. topgun

    I saw this

  25. topgun

I like FreeBSD, but I'm getting tired of those things

  26. topgun

It's the second app I cannot use

  27. topgun

And when u want to something in docker I know it will not be possible

  28. agh

    I feel the pain too

  29. topgun

    Hehe

  30. topgun

    Why do you use FreeBSD?

  31. Geld

    > topgun wrote: > Hehe > > Why do you use FreeBSD? Linux user asking why someone is using FreeBSD is like Windows user asking why is someone using Linux. Because it's better.

  32. Geld

FreeBSD is more tidy than Linux.

  33. Geld

Linux gets all the attention, but FreeBSD is there too.

  34. topgun

I also enjoy FreeBSD more because it feels more logical. But I want to know other peoples motive. I also feel tired someties when the package is too old in FreeBSD or that when I need docker FreeBSD will not run it

  35. debacle

lovetox Indeed: After the user deinstalled python3-sentry-sdk, Gajim started again. It seems, that Debian updated the package recently from 1.9.10 to 1.39.1 and then 1.39.2. Maybe Gajim has an incompatibility with the new version?

  36. speedygonzales99

Hi. Out of curiosity, why doesn't Gajim support calls for Windows?

  37. topgun

I tried from linux to linux and it also didnt work there

  38. topgun

It rings and when someone answers, nothing happens

  39. topgun

The other end had Tor, maybe it played a role

  40. speedygonzales99

topgun: the call option is grayed out for me using Windows.

    speedygonzales99: https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/wikis/help/gajimfaq#does-gajim-support-audiovideo

  42. speedygonzales99

This is disappointing because only Movim supports calling on Windows. I know there is an unofficial version of Dino for Windows, but Gajim is a fully featured client so this is really disappointing.
