Having issues with duplicate messages on gajim

This is not happening in other clients... any ideas on what it _could_ be?

I am not experienced in the protocol but I know its an issue which is only occuring when I have 2 devices connected... so someone who can make sense of the xmpp stanzas, what is going wrong here?

What I read it as is gajim gets the message, but then it also gets it from my phone because they are both connected, and it seems like two different messages and thus causing duplication?

Also it scales with the number of connected devices, and therefore the number of carbons being sent...

Link Mauve: also this is a bug with gajim, the XEP clearly states to drop bogus carbons

conversations and its forks, and dino all dropped the carbons, gajim accepted them

that is considered part of the security implication section is it not?

How do I enable preview of links? I thought it was a plugin but seems it's just a setting? Somehow I can not find it... 🤔

The related settings are in Gajim > Preferences > Chats > File Preview

There is no link preview though, if you're searching for that explicitly

That's a different kind of link preview, which only works for image urls pointing to a file

what I was looking for is that links preview a bit what the link is about and I misunderstood there was such a feature in Gajim

polarian, i dont see security concerns, these messages came from your server, what the XEP talks about is to not accept carbons from a JID that is not your server

be happy that gajim showed you these messages, otherwise a server bug would have gone unnoticed for probably a very long time

I have already chatted with someone via his trusted OMEMO fingerprint. Now I like to send him a pn again, but got a window showing 3 fingerprints, one being trusted. I couldn't select this/one and got a notice "you have undecided fingerprints". How can I select one of those fingerprints or what is neccessary to send him a pn again?

me3, if a user used several clients there will be at least one fingerprint per client

me3, you can exchange the fingerprints via a second, secure communication channel or you add the fingerprints as "Blind Trust" for now. This is depicted by the half filled shield icon

any ideas how to improve the usability for a first OMEMO contact? I think it should be more intuitive how to accept the fingerprints

you click on the shield icon on the bottom right and accept them as Blind Trust

jstein, even when I've trusted 1 or 2 fingerprints of that person I still get "you have undecided fingerprints" and Gajim denies sending.

and if you blind trust all fingerprints of this person?

jstein, ok. I've deleted a 3rd fingerprint, which status I haven't had made my mind up. Now I have 2 fingerprints of that person, where I have made a decision each.

The pn is sent.
