  3. polarian

    happening in all mucs

  4. polarian

This is not happening in other clients... any ideas on what it _could_ be?

  10. polarian

thats the xml dump from sending a message

  11. polarian

    oops wait missed abit

  13. polarian

I am not experienced in the protocol but I know its an issue which is only occuring when I have 2 devices connected... so someone who can make sense of the xmpp stanzas, what is going wrong here?

  14. polarian

What I read it as is gajim gets the message, but then it also gets it from my phone because they are both connected, and it seems like two different messages and thus causing duplication?

  15. polarian

Also it scales with the number of connected devices, and therefore the number of carbons being sent...

  21. Link Mauve

polarian, looks like your server is sending you carbons for groupchat messages, which goes directly against that sentence in XEP-0280: “A <message/> of type "groupchat" SHOULD NOT be carbon-copied.”

  22. polarian

    > polarian, looks like your server is sending you carbons for groupchat messages, which goes directly against that sentence in XEP-0280: “A <message/> of type "groupchat" SHOULD NOT be carbon-copied.” merci

  23. polarian

    it was a server regression

  24. Link Mauve

Get in touch with OpenFire devs to report that issue.

  25. polarian

    > Get in touch with OpenFire devs to report that issue. already was :)

  26. Link Mauve

    Perfect. :)

  27. polarian

Link Mauve: also this is a bug with gajim, the XEP clearly states to drop bogus carbons

  28. polarian

conversations and its forks, and dino all dropped the carbons, gajim accepted them

  29. polarian

that is considered part of the security implication section is it not?

  30. Jodorowsky

How do I enable preview of links? I thought it was a plugin but seems it's just a setting? Somehow I can not find it... 🤔

  31. Jodorowsky

    version 1.8.4

  32. fjklp

The related settings are in Gajim > Preferences > Chats > File Preview

  33. cal0pteryx

There is no link preview though, if you're searching for that explicitly

  34. Jodorowsky

ah yes, that's what I was searching for

  35. Jodorowsky

I misunderstood then, there's no such feature

  36. fjklp

    actually, there is

  37. fjklp

Gajim > Preferences > Chats > File Preview > Preview all Image URLs

  38. fjklp

Jodorowsky: try that and let me know if that's what you wanted

  39. cal0pteryx

That's a different kind of link preview, which only works for image urls pointing to a file

  40. fjklp

oh, he wanted a general link preview

  41. Jodorowsky

    https://upload.based.chat:5281/file_share/n6LtKJMsZhiabX3aUIqdtZ1C/imdb-example.jpg

  42. Jodorowsky

what I was looking for is that links preview a bit what the link is about and I misunderstood there was such a feature in Gajim

  43. Jodorowsky

but thanks for your time either way 👌

  44. fjklp

    yeah, sorry for the misunderstanding

  45. Jodorowsky

    no worries

  46. lovetox

polarian, i dont see security concerns, these messages came from your server, what the XEP talks about is to not accept carbons from a JID that is not your server

  47. lovetox

be happy that gajim showed you these messages, otherwise a server bug would have gone unnoticed for probably a very long time

  48. polarian

that is a pretty unique way of thinking it

  49. lovetox

not at all, i think you misunderstand whats happening

  50. me3

I have already chatted with someone via his trusted OMEMO fingerprint. Now I like to send him a pn again, but got a window showing 3 fingerprints, one being trusted. I couldn't select this/one and got a notice "you have undecided fingerprints". How can I select one of those fingerprints or what is neccessary to send him a pn again?

  51. jstein

me3, if a user used several clients there will be at least one fingerprint per client

  52. jstein

me3, you can exchange the fingerprints via a second, secure communication channel or you add the fingerprints as "Blind Trust" for now. This is depicted by the half filled shield icon

  53. me3

jstein, ok, what do I have to do about the "you have undecided fingerprints" message?

  54. jstein

any ideas how to improve the usability for a first OMEMO contact? I think it should be more intuitive how to accept the fingerprints

  55. jstein

you click on the shield icon on the bottom right and accept them as Blind Trust

  56. me3

jstein, even when I've trusted 1 or 2 fingerprints of that person I still get "you have undecided fingerprints" and Gajim denies sending.

  57. jstein

and if you blind trust all fingerprints of this person?

  58. me3

jstein, ok. I've deleted a 3rd fingerprint, which status I haven't had made my mind up. Now I have 2 fingerprints of that person, where I have made a decision each.

  59. me3

    The pn is sent.

  60. me3

    TNX, jstein.

  61. jstein

    you are welcome
