Yes although there are probably ways around that. But what you need to think about is your receivers

  2. lovetox

They will likely not Download anything with invalid certs

  3. mongol

    Does OTR work with gajim

  4. cal0pteryx

    No

  5. Neustradamus

mongol: Now there is OMEMO but you can try with Psi or Psi+ which have a plugin for OTR and OMEMO.

Sometimes my Gajim writes "You have left due to an error" I would prefer "You have left due to Error 1234" "an error" can be anything and at that point the software should know what is going on. What do you think?

Hello folks, I have a quick question relating to privacy. I am connected to xmpp through SOCKS5 (Tor). Say that I am connecting to an xmpp server - either to register, or to join a MUC, and the server requires me to complete a captcha. Does that captcha image get sent through the Tor proxy as a bytestream, or does Gajim load for example an http(s) URL and open it through a clearnet webview?

  8. bluespace

TL;DR: Does captcha expose your IP address even if connected through Tor using the built-in per-profile proxy?

  9. lovetox

the captcha is in sent via the xmpp stream

  10. lovetox

so no, your ip is not revealed

  11. lovetox

also if you set the tor proxy as global proxy within gajim settings, Gajim will use it for all http requests

  12. lovetox

although i always recommend to take additional measures

  13. lovetox

it can easily happen that a bug is introduced where gajim does not use the proxy

  14. lovetox

usually if its important to you, you should not trust applications to do the right thing always

  15. bluespace

Thank you very much for the answers. No the goal is simply not (easily) giving away my identity to various xmpp servers.

My poorly educated guess would be the best way to ensure your IP isn't exposed would be to use a movim instance through Tor Browser

Is there a toe daemon for Linux without the browser? How is it called?

  18. mkf

    > topgun: > Is there a toe daemon for Linux without the browser? How is it called? it's called tor. tor browser is just this daemon + a patched firefox

  19. topgun

How do I install it in Manjaro Linux? I just find tor-browser there, no pure Tor

Sorry, conversations.im don't allow me to reply under your message

Hey there! I need some help. For some reason, when I click on an image in a chat, Gajim opens it with GIMP even though the default image viewer is Gwenview. Any idea on how to make it use Gwenview?
