Gajim - 2023-12-25

  1. Sally

I have an XMPP account on movim.eu, I use it with conversations app on my android device, and I have joined a number of chats, but when I enter my account into Gajim in Linux (from flathub), there is no groups at all, is that an issue related to sync?

  2. fjklp

Sally: It seems to work normally for me when moving from dino to gajim. You can check if the bookmarks exist from gajim by going to Accunts > account name > Advanced > PEP Configuration, then either storage:bookmarks or urn:xmpp:bookmarks:1

  3. ☭Mike Yellow

Sally, is it your first time using Gajim?

  4. fjklp

☭Mike Yellow: Do any Chinese celebrate Christmas?

  5. ☭Mike Yellow

    Only bourgeoisie does.

  6. fjklp

    I see

  7. Sally

fjklp, Both 'storage:bookmarks' and 'urn:xmpp:bookmarks:1' are there, The issue is between the sync between Conversations and Gajim.

  8. fjklp

Sally: highlight either of those lines, then click the button Show Content

  9. Sally

☭Mike Yellow, No, I use it before with no issue, but with new installation with new version, I face this issue

  10. Sally

fjklp, There is "Dino" there, and I don't have an issue with the syncing between both of them, the issue is between the Conversation and Gajim.

  11. fjklp

I'm aware of that. I was just wondering if your bookmarks were visible there. However, I don't know if this is really the primary way bookmark syncing works so this might not answer the question.

  12. Sally

fjklp, Yes, there's bookmarks as you said.

  13. fjklp

do you see bookmarks for the chats that you expect to be joined?

  14. Sally

fjklp, No, the only chats/groups which I have I already added in Gajim.

  15. fjklp

you might try asking in the Conversations chat if this is a known problem

  16. Sally

fjklp, Yes, good idea, thank you.

  17. fjklp

Sally: by the way, I'm not sure if the lack of bookmarks where you looked really means that the bookmarks don't exist. This is just one place I know where the bookmarks _can_ exist.

  19. Sally

I have sent a message from one of my accounts to other, and I see this message.

  20. fjklp

I'm not sure I understand. You sent a message to yourself from one account to another and you saw my message instead?

  21. Sally

fjklp, I sent a message from Conversation/Android from different XMPP account to another account which is connected in Gajim, because of that I saw this message.

  22. fjklp

well, I did send that message

  23. Sally

fjklp, I will try to install gajim from Debian repo as a deb package instead of flatpak one, maybe that will solve the issue.

  24. fjklp

you might end up with an older version

  25. fjklp

you might end up with an older version, but if it works, that might help us figure out what's going on

  26. Sally

fjklp, I have deleted the folder "~/.var/app/org.gajim.Gajim", then I launch the flatpak app again, it seems the bookmarks sync now is working perfectly, I don't know what was the case of that.

  27. Sally

fjklp, Thank you so much for your help.

  28. fjklp

Hmm, I have no idea what caused it but thanks for letting us know.

  29. Sally

fjklp, By the way, debian stable 12 has the latest Gajim version as a backports.

  30. fjklp

    oh, that's good to hear

  31. Sally

    Thanks a lot fjklp .

  32. fjklp

You're welcome. I wish I had been able to actually help :)

  33. fjklp

    > fjklp, I have deleted the folder "~/.var/app/org.gajim.Gajim", then I launch the flatpak app again, it seems the bookmarks sync now is working perfectly, I don't know what was the case of that. lovetox maybe this indicates a bug?

  34. Andrey

Sally: Hi, are you using a Linux distribution with Gnome?

  35. Sally

Andrey, Yes, Debian 21 on raspberry pi 4

  36. Sally

    Debian 12*

  37. debacle

Btw. Debian 12 has an up-to-date Gajim 1.8.4-1~bpo12+1 in the official backports.

  38. r00tobo

Yeah, I personally use the official debian repo no problem

    🎄️ Merry Christmas!

  56. polarian

Out of curiosity I made a poll about Gajims workspaces feature: https://framapiaf.org/@debacle/111642851013854574 Feel free to participate!

  60. cal0pteryx

debacle, some time ago, I worked on restoring everything when enabling a previously disabled account: https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/merge_requests/913

  61. jstein

amogus, +1 for Gentoo, if there is a problem with the gajim package in Gentoo and you need help with bug tickets, you may ping me.

  62. polarian

    🤦‍♂️oops I started a distro war

  63. jstein

    ;-)

  64. jstein

while at it, I see that we should bump Gajim the package on Gentoo

  65. jstein

amogus, Just updated our package. Gajim 1.8.4 is now in the Gentoo tree. If people are complimenting a great distro, we have to serve the latest packages too. ;-)

  66. amogus

    👍🏻

  67. debacle

cal0pteryx Nice! I wonder however, if (lacking a XEP) Gajim could use a "proprietary" PEP node to save workspaces. That would not only allow to keep workspaces when disabling and enbling an account, but would also sync workspaces between instances.

  68. debacle

Minor error, I guess: In the XML console, I see `<r xmlns="urn:xmpp:sm:3" />`, even if "Stream Management" is switched off in the console settings.
