And yes, this would still make sense over just not saving the password(s) at all, because 1) it would cover the passwords of all accounts and 2) this way you can use way more compex and longer passwords for the accounts themselves. And even if you don't add a master password feature and just obfuscate the password with some symmetric encryption, it would make sense: it might be easily cracked because Gajim is open source, but it still is a lot better than just plain text. This might be an unpopular opinion, but security through obscurity does have its merits.

should the omemo plugin be showing up in the plugins menu? i can only see openpgp

omemo is now integrated into gajim in recent versions so there is no plugin ✏

how do i turn it on? just set to default encryption in account?

if you set default encryption to omemo, omemo will be automatically used in 1 to 1 chats, but not in other scenarios where omemo is possible

in other cases, you would enabled it with the lock icon in the bottom right

Hey, for some reason gajim can't find/query a device of a windows gajim user with omemo? It's just stuck querying. When omemo is disabled, all messages go thru flawlessly

I'm on a fedora qube that's up to date (not running through tor node), and they've just installed it on windows, I assume it's basically all default stuff

How do I add xmpp server,ID,port and all,like when you create or add a new xmpp server using existing xmpp user and pass? because im trying to add a .onion tor address,but idk if it works or not and I really dont want to create a new xmpp account just because of that.. not unless its possible to delete a xmpp account ✏

can't speak for others, I don't use tor at the moment on gajim but it's possible as I have tried setting up before you just click on Advanced option to setup the custom port and put the .onion in the Host field then you need to pick the Tor socks profile

jaxx, depending on how the server you use is setup but you just put the .onion of your server there and the custom port if any and you choose the Tor socks profile

strazing, not gajim, but we use a keyring library and you can configure it in various ways

what are you talking about ? jaxx an XMPP client doesn't visit websites or render them it's not a browser. the Tor socks profile is there to allow you connect over the Tor network to XMPP servers either on .onion or clearnet using exit nodes

not that. im talking about if you are able to.. a normal .onion tor website. just want to show u something about the torbox's website

Pidgin has not seen any updates since 2018 I think but I am sure Gajim would also work fine it's just that Torbox site didn't update client list

im so confused now. but i see if the user and pass for the email website for torbox has to be the same for xmpp server for it

it's dead simple really click on Accounts > Add Account the setup account wizard will show up put your username and password and check Advanced option to choose the Tor proxy and it will connect

I am still working on a Issue between Gajim and Siskin, where only newer OMEMO Messages on Siskin can be encrypted after siskin has been opened. I tried with a fresh install of Gajim on a second PC and reminstalling siskin. On a test account everything works flawless, but not on my main account.

I noticed in the xml log that for the test account only messages are seen, but for my main account gajim answers a message from the phone with a pupsub containing prekeys

You can delete the problematic device in the fingerprint dialog

After a restart try and send a message

It will create a new session

In general reinstalling applications will not solve this problems

Check that photo.. Is that xmpp icon suppose to be grey if im connected? or is that colour normal?

I can not see a problematic device. Also happens with a new Gajim installation (but the already existing account). Is it possible that some account data on the server is causing trouble?

what trouble, you just said you have no problematic devices

It is not a device issue. It also happens with new devices

It is just happening beween Gajim and siskin, Conversation shows all messages, even the ones where Gajim/Siskin is having trouble with.

encryption happens between devices, first step is usually to identify the 2 devices where you have a problem, then you can try to reset the session between these 2 devices

Ok, and "how to reset the session"?

I removed the appdata/gajim folder and reconfigured gajim and reinstalled siskin on the phone. After all this Siskin->Gajim started to work reliable, but Gajim->Siskin is still flawed. (Only for my own messages, messages to/from the other person in the chat work fine)

you write down the fingerprint of the not-Gajim device, go to the fingerprint dialog, delete the fingerprint, and restart gajim

Now gajim-> siskin works 100% but siskin->gajim 0% and gajim just shows "I sent you an OMEMO encrypted message but your client doesn’t seem to support that."

just tried a voice call with a friend, we're both using gajim and it crashed for both of us

I am using the latest version on arch, he the debian stable version...what could it be?

using Gajim go to Start / Join chat and type the room address and select join group chat jaxx

im using pidgin,not gajim

this is a Gajim related group chat

it's not about Pidgin

Louis: voice calls are currently broken. A few people have done some work recently so maybe we will get that in the future.

Removing all Keys in Gajim, Reinstalling Siskin and removing all Keys in Siskin once again did seem to fix everything.
