shift+ctrl+tab seems is supposed to "switch to the previous unread chat" but seems to only switch the next chat higher on the list

I don't see it having anything to do with being read or unread

ctrl+1 ... 9 to switch to the first - ninth workspace is listed twice in the shortcuts list

ctrl+tab is the same, just cycles through chats regardless of unread messages

Regarding the new focus update: I tested all the shortcuts in the built-in shortcut list and they all worked for me.

I am new to XMPP & Gajim...and i have not found how to enter the password to join a private room. I have searched the Gajim wiki without success....

experimental repo with modern calls https://dev.gajim.org/wusspuss/gajim/-/tree/dtls-rtp to try it out you can try running the flatpak bundle here https://files.catbox.moe/5ae8hj.flatpak (should be as simple as `flatpak install 5ae8hj.flatpak`). The flatpak has been tested on archlinux and ubuntu so hopefully will just werk. flatpak sha256 0da3318758c54bebbbc72cd07abb008136316775b3fcdaacdab5b62ffe4abc16 Calls have been tested against Conversations, Dino and itself.

I have contacted the owner of the room i was trying to join and he invited me.

Can someone please help me on how to connect IRC network and its rooms?

I see that Gajim now indicates of bot contacts. How does a stanza that indicates of being a bot looks like?

there is one slight isssue though. When I entered that command, two new rooms appeared. One was the channel/room whose name I entered and the other Nickserv Room

There should be one more IRC Snoonet Server Room where I can send some commands

This Snoonet server room appears when I join through Matrix but not through XMPP

Does anyone have more info for explanation on this?

I get the above error. Its pretty strange

That’s an IRC command, instead you open a chat with nickserv%irc.snoonet.org@irc.jabberfr.org and you tell it that.

It's been quirky. First it would ask which device to call and let me call, but then sometimes wouldn't even ask and so not work at all. Maybe it wasn't even conversations itself to blame, but some issue with the server or whatever. I figured it'd be more productive to just add at least some jmi support to gajim, since from what I've been told there are no clients that do dtls-rtp but not jmi.

And that contact had no other devices open that would start ringing I assume?

I don't remember it in such great detail at this point, sorry. IIRC "discovering devices" would pop up. Yeah I don't think there were any other devices online, but not too sure. I didn't spend that much time trying to get it to work without jmi.

chud: ok fair enough. 'discovering devices' is only shown when Conversations is in jmi mode. I just don't ever want to force other clients or developers to behave a certain way just because of some Conversations bug. So I'm happy to help if you run into any issue. But yeah in general JMI is a good thing in multi device environments

Daniel: IIRC you told me back then that the device chooser for non-jmi contacts was long untested, precisely because there are no clients supporting dtls-rtp but not jmi. My experimental gajim branch doesn't even try to support non-jmi contacts as of yet, and from what I've learnt so far there's very little point in spending time on that. For that, I would actually have to intentionally disable jmi support in a contact to test against, create a whole new code path with a dialog, only for it to possibly be used in some theoretical future client that for some reason doesn't support jmi, and even then I highly doubt such a future client will ever exist, because why *wouldn't* anyone want jmi at the end of the day?

tomchaplin: are you not joined to the chat in which you want to set the nick? Are you specifically wanting to change your nick while not joined?

i guess they fixed whatever was wrong, or gajim now better handles the server side nick change

then tells me i cannot join because im not identified, then 1 second later it executes the identify

Did anybody have ever luck using Gajim to make Audio-/Video calls?

I know that in the Wiki it's mentioned as unmaintained.

But I am sooooo close. Help -> Features shows all good, except Upnp. But with a STUN server ringing comes through, video windows opens ... Gajim crashes.

I am on Ubuntu 23.10 with Gajim 1.8.1 with Wayland and Pipewire.

Also tried Flatpak with Gajim 1.8.3, but same results. Video Test a bit more stable when using Xorg instead Wayland. But still no luck.

Any hope or should I just drop it?

someone has been working on getting audio calls to work, so there's a chance that part could be working soonish

Shiva, drop it for now, and wait a bit, there are some contributions, and maybe it will work son, at least Audio. Video is not anywhere near.

I assume unread messages just means that there is a gray counter showing unread messages and not unread messages that mention me

I assume that it will skip over chats with no unread messages to the next chat that has unread messages, but it does not ✏

you need to be more specific than how to reproduce it

i tested having selected one chat

and another has unread, the shortcut jumps to that, and it skips another inbetween which has no unread messages

ok grey counter does not count as unread

it jumps only to blue ones
