    Hello

  2. seb

On the Gajim GIT server, I got an error message on the issues list. "An error occurred while getting issue counts"

  3. fjklp

seb: the server goes down pretty often but it seems to be working now

  4. seb

    Yep, it restart automatically

    > pidgin 3 soon umu: it's "soon" for kinda 8 years already. Why are you sure about that?

  8. Kris

they actually started working on it lately

  9. MSavoritias (fae,ve)

wonder if there will be a time where we actually say its ok to use pidgin

  10. MSavoritias (fae,ve)

    for xmpp that is

  11. bodqhrohro

It's already okay and valid to use *any* XMPP client. Even such simplistic as sendxmpp.

  12. Lightning Bjornsson (they, he, xe/hir)

It's always been ok to use pidgin. It's just not great

  13. umu

pidgin is pretty good same with libpurple

  14. Link Mauve

    umu, in which ways?

  15. umu

you actually dont need pidgin to use libpurple contrary to popular belief

  16. umu

Link Mauve, libpurple is has a considerate design as to not be tied to just one protocol

  17. Link Mauve

It’s actually quite tied to how AIM represents things.

  18. umu

    well it even supports icq

  19. umu

which i need to use sometimes

  20. Link Mauve

Its support for legacy protocols doesn’t mean it is a good library, for XMPP it is a terrible one.

  21. umu

    for xmpp yeah

  22. umu

    but

  23. umu

my grandma knows how to use it because its familiar

  24. Link Mauve

umu, you mean she uses libpurple to develop clients or such?

  25. umu

no just the interface is easy to use for her

  26. Link Mauve

    Ah you mean Pidgin’s?

  27. umu

    ye

  28. Link Mauve

    You’re switching subjects here.

  29. umu

    wym

  30. Link Mauve

We were talking about libpurple just before.

  31. Link Mauve

Also, you should bring that to xmpp:devel@conference.pidgin.im?join or to an offtopic room, this is completely unrelated to Gajim.

  32. Link Mauve

(I forgot to check where we were before replying.)

  33. chud

Let me duplicate here: Does Gajim jingle file transfer work with conversations? For me it lets me choose the device to send it to, then begins sending, then fails. After a restart, the "send file directly" is greyed out for that contact.

  34. chud

    That's a on a vanilla build.

  35. chud

Both on master and the archlinux package.

  36. lissine

    > Does Gajim jingle file transfer work with conversations? Not sure if it works. But from the xsf channel today: > hm, nothing which is jingle really works in Gajim

  37. chud

yeah I just wonder how much that encompassed

  38. chud

Does conversations even support it nowadays? Is it even something we want to support? Honestly my only encounter with jingle file transfer was that time I read it leaked ip addressses on tor on smth and was not encrypted whatsoever

  40. lissine

    > and was not encrypted whatsoever Seems to not be the case for conversations, I think https://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/omemo-filetransfer.html
