As far as I know it isn't possible yet to have a _per room_ Avatar, not only in gajim but because of how the muc works. Until then it can't be changed to something nicer I guess.

You could set it without privacy concerns

And in that case it would be sensible for gajim to allow to configure it independently of other settings

but why would i do that as a user?

why would i so much care about other people seeing a avatar, that i go through the work to select a different avatar per room

Because it's nice to have an avatar. I don't know how to answer this. It is a personal matter of taste

And when it is pointed out to them they often don't know they can fix it by changing this setting. Perhaps there should be a dialogue box about it when a user joins a public channel for the first time, allowing them to choose.

there was unofficial OTR plugin for Gajim 1.7+, since 1.8 Gajim no more supports third party encryption plugins afaik.

ann: I can't even run 1.8 from source yet lol. And even though the explicit encryption hooks might be broken, I suppose generic send/display hooks may be added to the codebase, they would be useful for many things.

I see, the calyx server seems to be happy if any encryption like OTR, OMEMO or GPG is used.

hi. Just checked the list of supported XEPs. [XEP-0201](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0201.html) isn't on it. Not many clients actually support message threads, but many other networks seem to do so (Slack, Matrix, others too) and so do their bridges. For the best bridge experience, it'd be nice if the XMPP client would support it.
