  1. rebecca

why did this chat app be able to be used in china

  2. fjklp

    why would it not?

  3. rebecca

    need VPN

  4. rebecca

    like youtube and so on

  5. rebecca

but this app only need wlan

  6. fjklp

are you saying that gajim works without a vpn in china, which is surprising to you?

  7. rebecca

    yes,I am

  8. Kris

Too niche to be blocked 😅

  9. rebecca

    did you know bilibili?

  10. fjklp

I don't know much about how china blocks services, but I would assume that xmpp just isn't popular enough for them to figure out all the domains and IP addresses to add to their blocking rules

  11. fjklp

    Kris beat me to it

  12. fjklp

but part of it is that xmpp does not rely on a single domain name, it is decentralized and hosted on hundreds of servers

  13. rebecca

    my english is not well

  14. fjklp

    > did you know bilibili? no

  15. rebecca

you can try to search it in your contry

  16. fjklp

it's video sharing I think, but I don't know how this relates to the topic

  17. rebecca

    i am a chinese🤗

  18. rebecca

    > it's video sharing I think, but I don't know how this relates to the topicChinese websites require VPN to log in to foreign countries

  19. rebecca

On the contrary, foreign websites in China also require a VPN to log in

  20. rebecca

    😎

  21. fjklp

actually, I'm a little surprised that they don't make efforts to block xmpp, assuming that is the case

  22. rebecca

    Actually, it's not

  23. rebecca

Very few Chinese leftists use xmpp to evade police pursuit and engage in online communication with the aim of social revolution

  24. rebecca

It also brought me into contact with foreigners

  25. rebecca

    🤗

  26. Kris

Always good to learn about other ideas from around the world 👍

  27. rebecca

    😘没错

  28. rebecca

    that right

  29. rebecca

    😁

  30. rebecca

hope to develop my english level

  31. rebecca

    😊

  32. fjklp

    🙂

  33. bodqhrohro

    > did you know bilibili? I do.

  34. fjklp

I've noticed that when a chat is presumably attempting to connect to a chat and is showing the rotating arrow icon, about %34-%38 cpu is consumed constantly by gajim

  35. fjklp

I've noticed that when a chat is presumably attempting to connect and is showing the rotating arrow icon, about %34-%38 cpu is consumed constantly by gajim

  36. fjklp

I've noticed that when a chat is presumably attempting to connect and is showing the rotating arrow icon, about 34%-38% cpu is consumed constantly by gajim

  37. fjklp

and no, this isn't an ancient cpu

  38. rebecca

    >> did you know bilibili? > I do. What do you think of it

  39. bodqhrohro

rebecca: what should I, lol? ×D

  40. bodqhrohro

    > I've noticed that when a chat is presumably attempting to connect and is showing the rotating arrow icon, about 34%-38% cpu is consumed constantly by gajim Enjoy ur GTK+3.

  41. lissine

couldn't port 5222 simply be blocked?

  42. debacle

Gajim 1.8.1 is now in Debian unstable, 1.8.0 is in stable-backports and will be updated to 1.8.1 when that version hits Debian testing.

  43. debacle

Today is Debians 30th birthday, btw.!

  44. cal0pteryx

debacle: nice, thanks, as always :)

  45. cal0pteryx

    🎂

  46. debacle

    yw & thanks for Gajim!

  47. ss01

Why does he write when attaching a photo (Direct sending without encryption), but other contacts do not write this

  48. lovetox

    ss01, what?

  49. ss01

d0942c07-ac2d-40d5-9532-33b9bcd82b22.png 399 bytes Direct transmission (without encryption) Add Files… Cancel Send files

  50. ss01

But this does not always happen, only with some contacts

  51. cal0pteryx

I guess you are talking about direct file transfers (the fallback)/http upload transfers (the default)

  52. cal0pteryx

If http upload is not available on the server, the fallback (direct) is used

  53. lissine

    > If http upload is not available on the server, or if the file size exceeds the limit set for the http upload component

  54. cal0pteryx

    Right
