Gajim - 2023-08-11

  1. Kris

and today the ejabberd room decided to stop spinning... after weeks of it with no change.

  2. Kris

I wonder if something changed on their side

  3. anomaly

I notice that XEP 0363 (HTTP File Upload) is supported by Gajim, but also that this spec does not specify encryption (leaves it up to the client). I was wondering what Gajim does in the case that a client is using OMEMO or PGP in a chat and decides to use the HTTP file upload feature- would it use symmetric keys from that session to encrypt the file, would it encrypt the filename? I hope this isn't too impulsive of a question to ask (i should read the code) :

  4. Kris

    😅 its complicated...

    anomaly, https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0454.html

  6. anomaly

I see, thanks for linking that. Not exactly first-class, but certainly better than having no lock on the door so to speak

  7. anomaly

Also gajim looks much nicer than it did before, thanks for that xP

  8. anomaly

    tfw not in debian stable

  9. anomaly

    but flatpak

  10. QStambaugh

Flatpak works well on Debian. Otherwise, a newer version might be in the backports repository

  11. anomaly

Don't get why so few try XMPP lol. is marketing that powerful? also doesnt help its not called Jabber anymore

  12. gooya

Yeah 'xmpp' can sound a bit vague and intimidating for some

  13. anomaly

Hah. Maybe if someone integrated some headless version of Mumble into a client or something things would be different

  14. Kris

Gajim could quite reasonably be extended with a Mumble plugin. There is a Mumble python library that would probably work

  15. fjklp

yes, I think branding and being pushed by a big organization makes a big difference but it's a number of combining forces

  16. fjklp

    > Gajim could quite reasonably be extended with a Mumble plugin. There is a Mumble python library that would probably work this would be a cool project
