its a text-rendering issue related to a library gajim uses

opal, usually to fonts actually, some fonts e.g. provide only Japanese characters, some provide all of Chinese/Japanese/Korean, and if you default to Japanese it will fallback to the other font for Chinese characters which aren’t also part of Japanese.

Read about Han Unification if you want to learn more about the terrible mess Unicode decided on for those three languages.

try changing the font GTK uses

if that doesn't work, I'd like to refer you to the GTK font rendering department

gajim doesn't set any special fonts at all. it relies on GTK to do the right thing

Hey ! Do you know if it is mandatroy to have pictures, vocals, videos to be recorded on my computer when someone sends me a picture ? I have file_http_share enabled on my server but files are downloaded on my computer when I recieve them or when I open them (if I previously deleted them from my computer).

Yep. I wanted to make it optional so it does not take space on devices. In Telegram or by SMS, pictures, videos, vocals are not saved on the device. Can't we achieve the same thing with XMPP ?

they are saved on the device with these other services too. it is just hidden from the user

and if you are in a non-anonym room, gajim chooses not to dm, and preferes direct chat
