Gajim - 2020-03-10

  1. elfchen Is the current Git master supposed to be better at handling connectivity than older versions? I just had a case where I had a disrupted WLAN connection, Gajim went offline and I could not switch it back to online again. Actually had to restart. I didn't spot anything on the console when trying to switch from offline to online.
  2. wurstsalat elfchen: yes, goal of the latest changes is a better connection handling. but this change is rather new and might still have bugs
  3. elfchen Anything I can switch on to debug this if it happens again?
  4. wurstsalat elfchen: by console you mean xml console or your terminal? you can start gajim with `gajim -v` or `gajim -l gajim=DEBUG`, see https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/wikis/development/GajimLogging
  5. wurstsalat maybe you need to set debug logging for python-nbxmpp as well
  6. elfchen Terminal. The XML console was empty while being disconnected. Thanks, will switch on the whistles and bells.
  7. lovetox just -v is enough
  8. debacle With nbxmpp and gajim master of 2020-03-07, I can't connect a movim.eu account: https://conference.gajim.org:5281/pastebin/f3deee09-1ff2-4f82-8906-917a1f58f9c3
  9. Nothing4You Same here
  10. Nothing4You Just updated and bricked my Gajim :)
  11. debacle Note, that my other accounts work well. Only movim.eu is affected.
  12. lovetox interesting
  13. lovetox can you post the full debug log
  14. lovetox hm cant even try myself because account wizard is broken ..
  15. lovetox hm ok, i see at least one problem
  16. lovetox we dont try all methods
  17. lovetox seems direct-tls does not work
  18. Nothing4You Broken for me on my own xmpp server
  19. Nothing4You How do I enable debug again?
  20. Nothing4You Just -v I guess
  21. lovetox Nothing4You, leave it
  22. lovetox i see the problem
  23. Nothing4You Ok
  24. lovetox it seems directtls is somehow broken on movim or nbxmpp not sure
  25. lovetox and nbxmpp does not try the other methods
  26. lovetox just verified starttls works fine
  27. Nothing4You https://paste.debian.net/plainh/f54a303d anyways
  28. lovetox i try to fix nbxmpp in the evening so it trys on error als the others
  29. lovetox i ping you once i have a update
  30. Nothing4You Mine isn't movim btw just plain prosody
  31. lovetox hmm
  32. lovetox yeah i see i investigate in the evening
  33. lovetox do you have 2 accs enabled?
  34. lovetox i see two domains
  35. Nothing4You Yes
  36. lovetox did you change the domains, or are these the correct domains in the paste?
  37. Nothing4You Nothing modified
  38. lovetox ok thanks
  39. debacle lovetox, would that help you: https://conference.gajim.org:5281/pastebin/3a2d03b0-0e29-4edd-91b2-40cc50f68bf6
  40. lovetox Nothing4You, did you set a custom host?
  41. lovetox can you specify the directtls port in the custom host settings
  42. lovetox custom host setting right now only supports directtls
  43. lovetox i dont know what the standard prosody direct tls port is
  44. Nothing4You Just got home will check in a few min lovetox
  45. lovetox debacle, its a wrong setup on movim, i informed them
  46. Nothing4You lovetox, host is actually explicitly set to xmpp.rep.pm:5222, removing that fixes my connectivity
  47. Nothing4You lovetox, https://paste.debian.net/plainh/b8e29bf1
  48. Nothing4You for some reason it seems that it needs 10s to figure out that it can't resolve dns
  49. Nothing4You not entirely sure if the delay isn't to blame on my isp though
  50. Nothing4You dig takes about 2s although query time is only 30ms
  51. Nothing4You what's confusing me a bit is that according to the logs it seems that _xmppconnect is resolved first
  52. Nothing4You even though the XEP says > TXT lookups MUST be used only as a fallback after the methods specified in RFC 6120 have been exhausted.
  53. Nothing4You and it must not duplicate SRV records
  54. Nothing4You looking at the code i guess it's just resolving all variants in parallel (or at least that's how it's supposed to be)
  55. Nothing4You dig is behaving weird on my machine, dig @server is basically instant, dig without @server (same server listed in the output) is delayed
  56. debacle lovetox, thanks!
  57. debacle why is only the current Gajim affected, not 1.1.2 nor Dino?
  58. Nothing4You newer nbxmpp version
  59. Nothing4You python lib used for the xmpp protocol
  60. Nothing4You assuming it's the same issue
  61. lovetox debacle, because my new network code does not try other connection methods if one fails in the TLS Handshake
  62. lovetox it only trys others if it cant connect at all to a address
  63. lovetox but im going to change that
  64. lovetox Nothing4You, hm i think it was a temporary problem with your DNS resolver
  65. lovetox can you reproduce the 10 seconds?
  66. Nothing4You yes
  67. lovetox hm can you try and disable one of the accounts
  68. lovetox then try again
  69. Nothing4You actually not anymore
  70. Nothing4You was able to repro a few times when i wrote that
  71. Nothing4You dig is also fast now
  72. Nothing4You switched to a different resolver tho
  73. Nothing4You probably just shitty isp dns
  74. lovetox yeah hopefully
  75. debacle I see. Thanks for the explanation, lovetox!
