Gajim - 2020-02-01

  1. debacle is "Global Group Chat Search" (I assume it should contact via HTTP?) expected to work? it does not for me, the list remains empty
  2. debacle on Gajim master
  3. lovetox what does the debug log say
  4. bot Philipp Hörist pushed 1 commit to branch _refs/heads/master_ of _gajim_ < >:
  5. lovetox debacle, ^ check now if your start chat problems are gone
  6. debacle lovetox, I'm not sure whether it is faster now. But I'm using -l DEBUG now, which probably has a negative effect on performance, right?
  7. lovetox you are not sure? you said 2.6 seconds, you should be able to see the difference between 2.6 seconds, and less than 0.5
  8. lovetox im talking about the moment from pressing the key until you see the window
  9. lovetox this should now be instant, otherwise please put prints again to see where the bottle neck is now
  10. lovetox and for global search
  11. lovetox did you type something into the searchfield and hit enter?
  12. debacle lovetox, it is certainly not much faster than before :-(
  13. debacle about the search: yes, works! it was not clear to me, that I have to enter something, but then it's fine
  14. lovetox ok i think i have to write a test case for that
  15. lovetox i tested with 200 groupchats but they where all the same groupchat, maybe i have to test with different
  16. debacle lovetox, yes, I'm in many, large MUCs.
  17. debacle size of MUCs shouldn't matter at that place, but maybe slows down other things
  18. lovetox no, it seems its the dabase querys which are exceptionally slow on your machine
  19. lovetox i just tested with 200 different mucs its still instant for me
  20. lovetox my last straw is the avatar loading, which i could also pre cache
  21. lovetox could you check if its still th e case that its fast if you comment out the groupchat_name method?
  22. bot Philipp Hörist pushed 2 commits to branch _refs/heads/master_ of _gajim_ < >: *76090cdf* < > Logger: Don't time method that does not query the database *0d0a31a4* < > Logger: Preload avatar sha for MUCs Otherwise this becomes a bottleneck if we load many MUCs, e.g. StartChat dialog
  23. lovetox debacle, try now ^
  24. lovetox there are now 0 database querys when we load start chat dialog
  25. debacle lovetox, so far, it's all the same :-( Later/tomorrow, I'll downgrade gajim to 1.1.3 just to see, whether there is something wrong locally. Btw. other dialogs/windows are not slowed down, it's only "Start New Conversation"¸ as far as I can see.
  26. lovetox but you said if you coment out the name method its fast
  27. lovetox can you verify that this is still the case
  28. lovetox and are you really sure you pulled in the commits?
  29. lovetox it is nothing wrong locally, if its only one dialog
  30. debacle I just copied over the local one, but my installation is not very old. Looks compatible so far.
  31. lovetox instead of downgrading, its more useful you trace which method needs the time
  32. debacle I'll try without getting the name later. Need to do some shopping now :-)
  33. wurstsalat when I simply press enter in start chat's global search, it takes a little while and afterwards states ~3200 group chats found. are these 3.2k actually displayed (looks like it). don't know if that's what should happen
  34. lovetox yes thats the idea
  35. lovetox if you hit enter with no search term, you get all of them
  36. lovetox though its debatable how useful that list of 3200 is
  37. wurstsalat alright, I'm adding an informational placeholder :)
  38. bot Philipp Hörist pushed 2 commits to branch _refs/heads/master_ of _gajim_ < >: *4f213669* < > CI: allow redefinition of variables in mypy tests *975f1b3b* < > Bookmarks: Store bookmarks in dictonary This allows for much faster access than with a list
  39. beelze Incoming/outgoing message font setting in theme – what they are for? Played them but seems nothing changed
  40. lovetox you have to close and reopen the chat
  41. lovetox single chat that is
  42. beelze lovetox, see no difference yet
  43. lovetox if you test in a MUC
  44. lovetox you have to leave and join
  45. lovetox works fine for me
  46. beelze Well, fonts are fixed now more or less, thanks!
  47. beelze another thing: in single chat nickname follows timestamp without space, and looks merged (e.g. ‎[12:42]‎beelze‎).
  48. wurstsalat beelze: are you on current master? because there have been changes to the timestamp lately
  49. beelze wurstsalat, installed from git yesterday. fixed issue using relevant format option in ACE
  50. bot Daniel Brötzmann proposed a new merge request for _gajim/master_ < >: Start Chat: Add informational placeholders

  53. marmistrz lovetox: what's the state of my trust PR? Do you still remember about it? :)
  54. lovetox yeah, state is the same i try to get it into 1.2
  55. lovetox but there are bigger things that have more priority first :)
  56. Eduard It's possible to always maximize the group chats when using "Single window for everything"?
  57. Eduard It's possible to always maximize the group chats at startup when using "Single window for everything"?
  58. lovetox yes
  59. Eduard lovetox, what's the setting?
  60. lovetox chatmenu -> chatsettings -> minimize on autojiin
  61. Eduard I was seeinh ACE but nothing found for now.
  62. Eduard Thanks, lovetox!
