Gajim - 2020-01-26

  1. wurstsalat debacle: could you open an issue for that on the plugin tracker? :)
  2. wurstsalat hm I'm not sure how that would be possible currently, was is before?
  3. wurstsalat you could manually enter a bookmark, then join it, right?
  4. debacle wurstsalat, in Gajim 1.1.x I can join a MUC by right click on my account in the roster, then some menu entry, that is gone in Gajim master, and choose a nick name *before* entering the MUC. In Gajim master it would make sense to allow entering a nick name in the MUC information view, that appears before entering the first time.
  5. debacle That way it we would have the old functionality, but with new, nicer UI.
  6. debacle Going to bed now, leaving issue tracking for tomorrow :-)
  7. lovetox debacle, no you cant select a nick before joining anymore
  8. lovetox you join, then change your nick, the nick is saved for that groupchat
  9. lovetox the only way to join with a custom nick is add the bookmark yourself

  21. raghavgururajan > wurstsalat‎: raghavgururajan: Ctrl+P Thank you!
  22. Christian why do i get an older version under "sudo apt install gajim" than with flathub?
  23. wurstsalat Christian: Because your system's repositories don't offer a newer version
  24. asterix hannibal, do you have the flatpack build command?
  25. wurstsalat Christian: flatpak bundles dependencies, so it's mostly independent of what's installed on your system
  26. hannibal asterix, "flatpak-builder directory --repo=<repo> flatpak/org.gajim.Gajim.yaml"
  27. hannibal <repo> should be reused; "directory" should be removed after running the command
  28. asterix $ flatpak-builder gajim --repos=https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim.git flatpak/org.gajim.Gajim.yaml Option parsing failed: Option inconnue --repos=https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim.git
  29. lovetox i guess it should be a local path to the repo rather than a url
  30. asterix ok so I have to git clone first
  31. hannibal right, and "--repo"
  32. hannibal without s
  33. asterix $ flatpak-builder gajim-fp --repo=. flatpak/org.gajim.Gajim.yaml error: org.gnome.Sdk/x86_64/3.34 not installed
  34. hannibal http://docs.flatpak.org/en/latest/flatpak-builder.html
  35. asterix ok then I'll have to learn a lot about flatpak. I'll see when I'll have more time
  36. hannibal flatpak install --runtime flathub org.gnome.Sdk//3.34
  37. hannibal if flathub repo is available
  38. hannibal flatpak install --runtime flathub org.gnome.Platform//3.34 might also be needed
  39. asterix I never used flatpak, so no, nothing it setup

  44. asterix wow 650M to d/l
  45. asterix ha no, 1Go ...
  46. gerald I had renamed some contacts (right-click-->manage-->rename). If I set their name to <empty string>, their self-give nickname is displayed as expected. However, upon a gajim restart, their name has been changed back to what I had renamed them to.
  47. Christian k, thanks @wurstsalat. Its Linux Mint 19.3
  48. gerald ah, there name switches back as soon as they change their status
  49. lovetox thats weird
  50. lovetox it changes back to your custom name for them?
  51. lovetox normaly rename to empty string should remove the custom name
  52. lovetox wonder where gajim gets it again
  53. asterix hannibal, is it ok: ftp://ftp.gajim.org/flatpak or http://ftp.gajim.org/flatpak
  54. lasser Hi! I'm relatively new to gajim, but I use it with great pleasure :-) It's version 1.1.2 on Debian buster, XFCE… There's one 'problem' I faced today: Images are opened by the default the file manager thunar. If I choose there GIMP to open an image, gajim uses it, too. Also if it's ristretto in thunar, it's ristretto in gajim. Is there a way to change this behaviour and configure it as an individual setting for gajim?
  55. hannibal asterix, sorry, I forget to tell you, that gpg-sign parameter should be used; flatpak-builder --gpg-sign=<key> --repo=<repository> <manifest>
  56. asterix ok then I setup that on my server
  57. asterix hannibal, and now ?
  58. gerald > it changes back to your custom name for them? lovetox , yeah exactly. >wonder where gajim gets it again haha, asked myself the same thing.
  59. lovetox lasser yes in your version i think thats possible
  60. lovetox did you look under preferences -> advanced
  61. lasser lovetox Yeah I did look at it, and there's config for browser, mail and file manager. Also there's the config editor ACE
  62. hannibal asterix, it's working
  63. asterix ok then I'll setup than on my server and will do a daily build
  64. asterix hmmm doesn't work in my chroot: error: Unable to connect to system bus
  65. lasser I do not find anything in ACE related to image editor or viewer…
  66. asterix hannibal, it seems I won't be able to build it on my server. Even without chroot it doesn't work. It needs dbus, which I don't have on my server\
  67. lovetox lasser, try file manager
  68. lasser ok
  69. lovetox why would a flatpak build need dbus
  70. lovetox sounds weird
  71. lasser lovetox Nope…
  72. lasser gajim still uses what is marked in thunar
  73. lovetox_ lasser you have to set in ACE
  74. lovetox_ autodetect_browser_mailer = True
  75. lovetox_ ah sorry False
  76. lovetox_ then it uses what you define for file manager
  77. lasser I try it…
  78. lasser lovetox autodetect_browser_mailer was false already
  79. lovetox about what are we talking about
  80. lovetox you get a sent a link
  81. lovetox the preview plugin displays it and then you click the image?
  82. lasser I get a link, I click on it and gajim asks me, if I want to open it. I choose 'yes' and up goes gimp, but I want or something similar small… If I change the default behaviour in the file manger thunar (which is normally set to gimp) to ristretto, gajim opens ristretto.

  85. bot André updated a merge request for _gajim/master_ < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/merge_requests/564 >: Use GSound to play sound on Linux
  86. lovetox thats probably an encrypted file
  87. lovetox and omemo uses xdg-open to open the file
  88. lovetox so the setting is not honored there
  89. lovetox just for interest
  90. lovetox why would you want to open gajim images with something different than all other images on your system?
  91. gerald lovetox, re: >wonder where gajim gets it again I think I found the reason: the custom contact names are stored in the table "roster_entry" in the cache.db. Those entries aren't updated if you clear the name via roster right-click, they seem to remain cached forever.
  92. lovetox nice, thanks for investigating could you add a issue for that?
  93. gerald yes, will do
  94. hannibal asterix, maybe containers, like docker, could be used to build the repo
  95. lasser lovetox because gimp needs ages to start and other viewers are immediately up… But as i said, this is not really a 'problem' maybe just an inconvenience ;-) I won't change the XMPP client, so I have to and will live with it :-) Thanks for your patience and time!

  97. lovetox but why did you set gimp as default app for pictures lasser ?
  98. lasser lovetox Out of thunar I do mostly editing of pictures…

  120. allie is there any way to prevent chats and MUCs from being closed between restarts in master? It seems sorta random, sometimes they get closed and sometimes they don't
  121. lovetox chats should be saved and reopened
  122. lovetox MUCs are never open when you start
  123. lovetox they are in the roster minimized under Groupchat
  124. allie lovetox: that seems to be really hit or miss lol. this last time I restarted all my groupchats are still open (not minimized), but my chats are all closed
  125. lovetox sounds impossible
  126. lovetox never seen anything like that
  127. allie you're right that usually the groupchats stay minimized. so I dunno what it did this time
  128. lovetox is there anything special about these groupchats
  129. lovetox are you sure you restart gajim?
  130. lovetox pressing X on Gajim does no close Gajim
  131. allie no, just normal groupchats
  132. lovetox it just hides the window
  133. allie and yes, after a reboot
  134. lovetox but we dont save groupchats, gajim can not even know what groupchats there are, it only learns about them when connecting to the server
  135. lovetox maybe you could do a little video that shows the issue
  136. allie lovetox: they're ones that I do have bookmarked and auto-joined. but yeah, they were open (in the tab list) after restarting it. but all my chats weren't.
  137. allie lemme restart again and see what it does
  138. lovetox ok have to go to bed
  139. lovetox lets talk tomorrow :)

  147. wurstsalat nico: No, that was because a config migration had to be triggered :)
  148. nico oh ok 🙂 thanks for the info
