Gajim - 2019-11-05

  1. mrdoctorwho new gajim seems to be very cpu hungry
  2. mrdoctorwho with all these execution time measurements
  3. concerto Is Nightly working on Debian Stable yet?
  4. wurstsalat concerto: you need at least pygobject 3.32.0
  5. saltybones concerto: have you tried the ubuntu dev setup guide?

  10. Demosthenex is there a way to tell gajim to remember window position and sizes between invocations?
  11. concerto saltybones: where is that?
  12. concerto Oh, in the docs, not the site
  13. wurstsalat Demosthenex, it normally saves window positions and sizes
  14. saltybones concerto: sorry was afk :)
  15. Demosthenex wurstsalat, that's not been my experience or i wouldn't be asking.
  16. wurstsalat Demosthenex, which window exactly? which gajim version? which OS?
  17. Demosthenex windoze 10, roster. never stays in upper right corner. message window stays same size, but always defaults to top left
  18. wurstsalat gajim 1.1.3?
  19. Demosthenex yep
  20. wurstsalat I don't use Gajim on Windows 10. maybe someone else can confirm this?
  21. Demosthenex i wonder if there's a diff between closing gajim manually, and shutting down windoze
  22. Demosthenex ah, thats the diference
  23. Demosthenex well there's that question answered.
  24. wurstsalat Demosthenex: so quitting gajim saves the window position correctly, but shutting down windows without closing gajim first will not store window positions?
  25. Demosthenex yep
  26. concerto Okay wat - $ pip install pygobject css-parser ipython python-axolotl Requirement already satisfied: pygobject in /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages (3.30.4) 😕
  27. concerto How do I remove that pygobject without removing python2.7? (Trying to do that ends up removing like 50 programs I use :D)
  28. wurstsalat Demosthenex: thanks for figuring this out! https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/issues/9774 is related to that I think (to let gajim properly shutdown)
  29. Demosthenex that'd explain it, not saving on close
  30. Demosthenex like many background apps, i don't manually stop gajim when i shutdown
  31. Demosthenex so i imagine that's a common problem
  32. wurstsalat Demosthenex, it seems this is a Windows specific problem
  33. bot Daniel Brötzmann modified an issue in _gajim_ < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/issues/9774 >: #9774: < Close session on system shutdown >
  34. Demosthenex that's the only problems windoze has.
  35. Demosthenex good thing i only game on windoze. can't do any real work on it. bitlbee doesn't suffer from this problem =]
  36. wurstsalat *a windows specific GTK problem

  40. lovetox concerto, we use python3
  41. lovetox you seem to try to remove python2 dependencys
  42. lovetox Demosthenex, wurstsalat the problem is Gajim does not know that windows is shutting down
  43. lovetox and Windows kills Gajim before it can save anything
  44. lovetox the problem here is that Gajim only saves the position on shutdown, it should save it on every position change, then we can circumvent that problem
  45. concerto lovetox: so how should I install pygobject for Python 3? (I've never used pip)
  46. concerto lovetox: so how should I install pygobject for Python 3? (I've never used pip - I was following the Ubuntu dev instructions)
  47. lovetox then dont, its in debian testing repos https://packages.debian.org/source/bullseye/pygobject
  48. concerto But I'm running stable and would rather not do the testing/pinning dance 😕
  49. lovetox but what you try is worse
  50. lovetox you install dependencys without apt knowing about it
  51. wurstsalat lovetox, wouldn't fixing the issue I mentioned give us an entry point for saving stuff (and closing the session properly)?
  52. lovetox wurstsalat, of course its useful for many things to know when windows is shutting down
  53. lovetox but this particular problem i would save the position on change
  54. lovetox because gajim can be killed many ways, shutting down is just one
  55. lovetox so you added one situation where you fixed the problem
  56. lovetox still have an unknown count of situation where gajim is killed without the system letting it know
  57. lovetox so goal is to do as few things as possible on shutdown
  58. wurstsalat lovetox, I see
  59. lovetox but ending the connection to the server properly is one point we *have* to do on shutdown
  60. lovetox so its still useful to know about it
  61. saltybones concerto, hm...those instructions should exclude globally installed packages
  62. saltybones but that option was not the default in old versions of virtualenv
  63. saltybones so maybe you just need a --no-site-packages extra in that line
  64. concerto saltybones: I skipped over the venv instructions ._.
  65. concerto saltybones: I skipped over the virtualenv instructions ._.
  66. saltybones well...then of course you get problems because then you're not using python3 ;)
  67. saltybones the virtualenv takes care of the fact that python calls the python3 of the virtualenv
  68. saltybones It seems when I get images links and I click on them the images opens but I get a dialogue asking if I want to open it as well.
  69. saltybones Can anybody reproduce that?
  70. lovetox yes i have that to
  71. saltybones What's going on there? :)
  72. lovetox no idea, and not a priority right now
  73. wurstsalat saltybones: this is an error in the omemo plugin. I have a fix somewhere I think
