Gajim - 2019-09-11

  1. concerto wurstsalat - yeah, I can reproduce it after a restart.

  4. concerto Seems to happen if I switch windows
  5. mrdoctorwho lovetox_, I get this and it seems this is why I get disconnected from the server <error xmlns="http://etherx.jabber.org/streams"><policy-violation xmlns="urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-streams" /><text xml:lang="en-US" xmlns="urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-streams">Too many unacked stanzas</text></error>
  6. lovetox_ mrdoctorwho yes raise the allowed unacked stanza limit on your server
  7. mrdoctorwho lovetox_, I don't control this server. Is there anything we can do from the client side?
  8. lovetox_ nope
  9. mrdoctorwho lovetox_, can we at least have an option to disable SM in account settings?
  10. lovetox_ you can do something, join less MUCs on start
  11. mrdoctorwho there's no MUCs in bookmarks
  12. lovetox_ Oo, than the server must be misconfigured
  13. lovetox_ this should only happen if you have many thousand unacked stanzas
  14. lovetox_ which only should happen if you have much traffic on startup
  15. lovetox_ are you using any facebook transports?
  16. mrdoctorwho I probably do have much traffic
  17. mrdoctorwho lovetox_, this is a default ejabberd server and a default account. The only non-default is mod_shared_roster, that makes all registered accounts display in each other's rosters. So my roster is quite big, about 500 contacts
  18. mrdoctorwho lovetox_, this is a default ejabberd server and a default account. The only non-default is mod_shared_roster, which makes all registered accounts display in each other's rosters. So my roster is quite big, about 500 contacts
  19. lovetox_ and are all 500 contacts online at the same time?
  20. mrdoctorwho about 250 are online
  21. lovetox_ yeah should not be a problem
  22. lovetox_ IF the server is configured correctly
  23. lovetox_ if the limit is 200 unacked stanzas, then obviously when the server sends you 250 presences in one go at start
  24. lovetox_ he will disconnect you afterwards
  25. lovetox_ i think its best you write a email to the admin and let him check if the limit is on ejabberd default (newer version) which should be around 5000
  26. lovetox_ if it is on 5000, and you still get disconnected, you can send me debug logs, then i take a look
  27. mrdoctorwho lovetox_, okay, thank you. I'll contact the administrator, but I think that's not the case. There are several Gajims using other accounts and they're just fine
  28. lovetox_ yeah would be interested in the answer, but i would bet its not on 5000
  29. mrdoctorwho lovetox_, the admin says that there's no such paremeter, which means it has the default value
  30. lovetox_ and what version of ejabberd?
  31. mrdoctorwho lovetox_, 17.08
  32. lovetox_ Holger ^ do you know what the value of stanza unacked limit was in 17.08?
  33. zinid lovetox_, 1000
  34. lovetox_ thanks zinid
  35. lovetox_ mrdoctorwho tell the server admin to raise it to 5000, ejabberd docs say servers should use "never lower than 1000". so the server is on the absolute lowest end
  36. zinid the option is `max_ack_queue` of mod_stream_mgmt (FWIW)
  37. zinid and 17.08... sigh
  38. wurstsalat concerto: what 'seems to happen if you switch windows'? Scrolling continues? Scrolling stops? You can observe how gajim sees this when in debug mode: it should state whether auto scrolling is enabled or not
  39. dreieinhalb Hello, what extensions/plugins have to be installed in Openfire jabber server for group chat bookmarks? We are using a jabber server in our company and migrated to a new server a few weeks ago and now group chat bookmarks don't work with Gajim. I ask the server admin (a colleague of mine) to install the Openfire plugin "Bookmarks" (XEP0048), but this unfortunately didn't solve the problem.
  40. lovetox_ dreieinhalb what Gajim version?
  41. dreieinhalb @lovetox_: 1.1.2, but I tried 1.1.3 without success
  42. lovetox_ linux or windows?
  43. dreieinhalb Linux
  44. lovetox_ then start gajim with -l gajim.c.m.bookmarks=DEBUG
  45. lovetox_ and show us the output
  46. dreieinhalb okay
  47. dreieinhalb @lovetox_: sorry for delay https://paste.gajim.org/view/f7c32383
  48. lovetox_ seems to work fine, you even have one bookmark stored
  49. lovetox_ is it not showing in Gajim -> Bookmarks?
  50. dreieinhalb yes it's shown, but I added it shortly before I made the debug output. It will get lost after some time.
  51. lovetox_ then keep the log running and we will see what happens on next restart or when it gets lost
  52. concerto wurstsalat: i.e. I scroll up in an MUC -> switch to some other application -> come back to Gajim -> see that I'm now at the bottom of the chat
  53. concerto or rather, it seems to happen only if there's _also_ been a new message in said MUC
  54. lovetox_ of course we scroll down on a new message, it should only do this if you are at the end of the chat, but never tested this when the window was not active, have to look if i can reproduce this
  55. dreieinhalb lovetox_: okay - thank you so far!
  56. concerto lovetox_: weird, it just happened before my eyes, without window switching. In a busy MUC - scroll up two pages (Shift-PgUp twice) - scrolls down on new messages.
  57. lovetox_ can you try it with mouse scroll instead of page up
  58. concerto Test
  59. concerto lovetox_: yeah, happened with mouse scroll too
  60. concerto (I wonder if sending a message yourself (from another device) invalidates the test.)
  61. lovetox_ no
  62. lovetox_ thats very weird, we should debug this later if i have time, is this on 1.1.3?
  63. concerto 1.1.92+5623dfbaf

  71. philippberger Hi! I have a problem with Gajim 1.1.3 on Windows x64 freezing and consuming a full CPU core + as much memory as is available. Are debug symbols available for the Windows Builds? Then I could attach a debugger and see were this issue is happening
  72. lovetox_ there is a debug logging option in the preference -> advanced
  73. lovetox_ maybe something is in the logs
  74. lovetox_ otherwise you can only try to see when this happens
  75. lovetox_ maybe after standby?
  76. philippberger No, it even happens while I am working, I am trying to keep an eye on it to figger this out. I now found a current "master" build, trying this now with debug console
  77. lovetox_ hm .. philippberger downgrading afterwards is not easily possible
  78. lovetox_ so you should use portable install for your test and install it to somewhere else
  79. philippberger Did that :)
  80. lovetox_ But debug log is probably the most useful thing

  84. zak Is there something special to do in Gajim if I want to see MAM messages sent from Conversations to myself while Gajim was not running?
  85. concerto Thanks :)
  86. lovetox zak, not clear what you mean
  87. lovetox you cant send MAM messages
  88. lovetox the server sends you MAM messages not conversations
  89. lovetox and what do you mean by messages to yourself
  90. lovetox you really send messages to your own jid from another device?
  91. zak I know. A friend of mine sends a message to himself in Conversations while Gajim is not running. Then he starts Gajim and does *not* see his previously sent message.
  92. lovetox in Gajim 1.1.3?
  93. lovetox last time i checked this worked for me, but would have to test it again
  94. zak Whoa, just saw that I have Gajim 1.1.2 from Debian buster. No backports yet I guess.
  95. zak Okay, he got it: "Server Message Archive" was deactivated in the settings. (Why would you want to deactivate that?) And "Archiving Preferences" were set to "never".
  96. Zash Some would ask why you'd want it at all
  97. Zash Some would dismiss all of XMPP because it exists.
  98. Zash Some dismissed all of XMPP because it didn't exist.
  99. Zash People have different requirements
  100. zak Zash: That wasn't my question, but it's alright.
  101. wurstsalat zak: depends on your server's settings. Gajim's default setting should be enabled
  102. wurstsalat lovetox I do send messages to myself regularly. It's quite handy when using mobile/desktop.
  103. zinid yeah, it's handy in XMPP, when you have nobody to talk with
  104. wurstsalat Got me
