  7. EmleyMoor Just changed SSL certificate and gajim now reports my account "Has errors". How do I get detail
  8. EmleyMoor ?
  9. EmleyMoor Scrub. Will refer as ejabberd issue
  10. asterix EmleyMoor: you can try to run Gajim -v from a console to see whan happens
  11. bot Andrey Gursky created an issue in _gajim_ < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/issues/9814 >: #9814: < AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'getTagData' >
  12. EmleyMoor I'm now at the point I'm losing Gajim's stability *on my desktop machine*!
  13. EmleyMoor Any way to enable a "more forgiving" mode?
  14. EmleyMoor I am sick of the limits my hardware seems to be placing on the operation of *all* carbons-capable XMPP clients, including Gajim
  15. EmleyMoor I am sick of the limits my hardware seems to be placing on the operation of *all* carbons-capable XMPP clients, including Gajim
  16. asterix as I already said, enable verbose mode. Run gajim -v from console
  17. asterix which OS?
  18. EmleyMoor Debian. Besides, there's no point. I already know what's causing the stability issue... it's precisely the problem stopping me running any XMPP client at all, if connected to my main account, on my laptop
  19. EmleyMoor (heavy roster, lots of transports and groupchats)
  20. EmleyMoor Fix is better hardware - but I can't pay for it at the moment
  21. MattJ EmleyMoor, what hardware is that?
  22. MattJ I can't imagine any machine in the last 10 years should struggle too much
  23. MattJ stpeter had a 1000 contact roster 10 years ago, and he survived (on some clients, not all)
  24. SouL Crazy :D
  25. EmleyMoor MattJ, my own personal computers. Laptop about 7 years old, desktop perhaps 4 but recently downgraded due to a fault. stpeter either had a better computer or no Facebook or IRC transports
  26. EmleyMoor MattJ, That's the problem, it's fine on *some* clients, not *all*... and not *any* Carbons-capable ones that seem to be available for Debian
  27. MattJ He didn't have Facebook transports (Facebook chat was only just launched then, and relatively few people used Facebook compared to today)
  28. EmleyMoor What problems might I face if one of my clients doesn't support XEP-0313? (I know Gajim does support it)
  29. EmleyMoor (just wondering what MAM actually does, really)
  30. MattJ It means you may miss messages on a device that was offline
  31. EmleyMoor MattJ, Ah, right...
  32. MattJ What it does: it lets the client ask the server for messages that the server has stored for the account
  33. MattJ If you have a single device it's fine, because almost every server will automatically hold messages until a client comes online
  34. MattJ But if you have multiple devices on the same account, they will just be delivered to the first device that comes online
  35. MattJ After that, MAM is required if other devices want to see those messages
  36. EmleyMoor I do have multiple devices... but one should always be on as it's local to the server, and the others, one has a MAM-equipped client, the other is too crappy to run one
  37. EmleyMoor If the only real effect is that a non-MAM client may miss messages if it's not online, I can live with that
  38. MattJ Yeah, I have an always-on client too... it can be annoying if I'm on my mobile and I'm in a poor signal area
  39. MattJ XEP-0198 catches it most of the time, but occasionally I do miss messages (my mobile client doesn't support MAM)
  40. EmleyMoor MattJ: My mobile client does support MAM...
  41. EmleyMoor Gajim is nice, but nasty at present on my systems/circumstances... my partner will almost certainly still be using it though.
  42. wurstsalat EmleyMoor: I guess most these performance issues arise when using the facebook transport. Without it performance should be fine, even with bigger rosters. How many contacts do you have?
  43. EmleyMoor 780 or so... but I've lost sight of my roster
  44. lovetox does facebook transport even work?
  45. lovetox what if someone opens a group conversation?
  46. lovetox how is that displayed in gajim
  47. lovetox but must be *really* important for you, if i where you i would just use facebook.com for that
