Gajim - 2019-08-08

  1. concerto lovetox: after a few days of trying to adapt to their absence, I really think Alt-[0-9] keys for tabbing are important - - literally every tabbed application has them, it's pretty much muscle memory and expected behaviour - it's quicker - Alt-[0-9] is close to the keyboard typing position, whereas arrow keys or page up/page down require more movement. - in case of >9 tabs, people usually use Alt-1/0 to jump to the first and the last one, and mostly to access tabs 1-3 quickly.

  4. concerto - in case of >9 tabs, people usually use Alt-1/0 to jump to the first and the last one (complementing Alt-left/right/PgUp/PgDn instead of replacing them), and mostly to access tabs 1-3 quickly.
  5. concerto (and isn't 4 lines for auto-paste a little over the top? :P)
  6. rom1dep concerto: irssi/weechat refugee?
  7. concerto rom1dep: hardly, never used IRSSI and it's been >5 years since I touched weechat ;)
  8. concerto I use M-1/M-9 in Firefox even though I usually have well over 50 tabs ;)
  9. concerto The terminal has M-[0-9] too, although I hardly ever go past 3 tabs.
  10. concerto I even have M-[0-9] in Emacs for window switching xD
  11. concerto ...and so does the file manager. I even have M-[0-9] in Emacs for window switching xD
  12. rom1dep Yeah, it's quite natural for me to have such a shortcut, less so to have to guess which window is mapped to what, and even less so if the window id isn't stable
  13. pep. Yeah, GUI doesn't excuse the absence of shortcuts :)
  14. Eduard concerto, in firefox you can use F6 + % some tab name and jump directly to it
  15. concerto Eduard: nice, thanks.
  16. Eduard https://share.conversations.im/edu4rdshl/6RvzjtP3gqJp8cCw/fzyMTociRJKMOwoezANPAg.jpg
  17. Eduard Like it
  18. concerto So the % makes it search only open tabs? Fancy.
  19. Eduard Yes, only open tabs.
  20. Eduard And it filter tabs that contain what you wrote.
  21. Eduard Another tip is use *something to search directly in your bookmarks.
  22. Eduard Example:

  24. bot Daniel Brötzmann updated a merge request for _gajim/master_ < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/merge_requests/497 >: Add DOAP file
  25. concerto Eduard: sweet. Where'd you learn these?
  26. concerto ...I eagerly await the day when Gajim will inform other clients that "The user has read this message on Gajim, no need to notify them of it, thank you very much."
  27. EmleyMoor The problems I have been having with flapping connection on my laptop are not affecting my desktop machine despite a CPU downgrade. Gajim performs well on it. It's a shame no "up to standard" XMPP client will perform adequately on my laptop.
  28. EmleyMoor Why does Gajim offer me, whenever there's so much as one new one, all my Facebook contacts to be added to the roster again? Is there no way it could exclude automatically any where the JID already exists in the roster?

  32. pep. Re ^, I think it was com8 (author of the windows client) who was using 0392 for keys, per 8 characters iirc
  33. pep. s/keys/fps
  34. andy lovetox, how file sharing works in Gajim? We have an IBB, bytestream and http-upload. First Gajim use http-upload, then try to use a bytestream p2p and with proxy, and if they not work use an IBB?
  35. Eduard > Eduard: sweet. Where'd you learn these? concerto: im involved in some Firefox things, not sure if there's doc about that but I will check.
  36. lovetox andy no, it uses what you set in preference or explicitly chose
  37. andy okay thx.
  38. asterix andy: you (in pref) choose http-upload or direct FT. If you choose direct FT, there are 2 ways to negociate : jingle or si. Gajim uses jingle if both supports it, else si. And during transport negociation, Gajim tries socks5 (eventualy with proxy) else IBB. Jingle permit to switch from socks to IBB if socks5 fails, SI don't.
  39. andy > ‎asterix‎: andy: you (in pref) choose http-upload or direct FT. hmm but where is this switch? I can choose to use a proxy for bytestream (in account settings), but there is not switch to choose http or direct ft.
  40. andy I use Gajim from git
  41. lovetox in ACE filetransfer_preferences
  42. andy ah there ;)
  43. andy Ok thx. When I check to jingle signaling instead of http, Gajim still will be using a http for muc?
  44. lovetox yes
  45. lovetox this is only a preference
  46. lovetox meaning use this if it makes sense
  47. lovetox if you want to force it, you should use the appropriate method from the chat menu
  48. andy ok
  49. mrdoctorwho lovetox: hi there. Has anybody reported about a sudden bump of the gajim's CPU usage to 100%?
  50. lovetox no
  51. wurstsalat mrdoctorwho, try disabling url image preview if you have it enabled
  52. mrdoctorwho wurstsalat: I didn't receive any images
  53. lovetox are you using master?
  54. CryptOwl Is there any best practice for this situation? Sent an OMEMO encrypted message via Gajim to a friend after verifying his fingerprint. He only receives the common "this message hasnt been encrypted for this device" text even though his fingerprint matches up. Receiving omemo encrypted messages from my conversations works fine though. We both use the latest Gajim versions with the latest omen's plugin.
  55. lovetox Did you try sending a second message?
  56. CryptOwl Of course.
  57. lovetox you can try to delete the fingerprint in the fingerpring window
  58. lovetox restart gajim, send a message, wait for the popup, trust again
  59. lovetox send another message
  60. lovetox fingerprint is not grey by any chance?
  61. CryptOwl lovetox: its verified/green. so, deleting the fingerprint wont "ban" the key? Asking because the "permanent deletion" warning is pretty confusing.
  62. lovetox no it does not, it means you can recover that session
  63. lovetox no it does not, it means you cant recover that session
  64. lovetox we dont ban keys, makes no sense for me, but i know some clients did that in previous times
  65. EmleyMoor On a fast machine, the *only* problem I have with Gajim is the Roster Item Exchanges. I understand one of my chief complaints has been sorted for future versions, but the other, that Gajim should ignore, or offer the option for you to ignore, any for which you already have the JID in your roster. Is there any plan for this?
  66. lovetox no EmleyMoor not currently, because there are not enough people who use Gajim with Facebook
  67. EmleyMoor I appreciate it's a relative "niggle". Thanks though
  68. lovetox please open an issue though
  69. lovetox when there is time to dive into transport code, then this might be solved
  70. EmleyMoor is trying to find where to raise it
