Gajim - 2019-04-10

  1. stp was closed recently. That brought up the question: how to export all history at once instead of having to export every single contact by itself? Plus the save dialog exporting triggers should preset .txt as fileextension.
  2. wurstsalat stp, long term goal is to integrate all history manager functionalities in the View History dialog. There we could also have a button for something like 'Backup my chat history'

  13. ftiede morning.
  14. ftiede the other day i've updated gajim to the latest version and now it keeps complaining about being unable to join one of my private MUCs on my own prosody instance. the muc itself works alright, as other clients do not have that issue. is there anything i've missed?
  15. stp wurstsalat, that's a very good plan. I'm looking forward to that being completed.
  16. zinid ftiede, did you look into XML console?
  17. ftiede zinid, yeah, got a server-error "not-acceptable" stanza.
  18. zinid ftiede, and that's it? no human readable explanation?
  19. zinid I mean was there <text/> element in the <error/>?
  20. ftiede zinid, nope. message type="error", muc identifier, error type="cancel", not-acceptable, end of stanza.
  21. zinid yeah, great server 😀
  22. zinid go figure now without xmpp geeks 🙂
  23. ftiede restarting xmppd.
  24. ftiede zinid, seems it was a crash between the sql-backend, the xmppd and the client(s). let's see if it remains online now.
  25. zinid you're using prosody with sql?
  26. ftiede mhm
  27. ftiede why?
  28. Link Mauve ftiede, it’s a lot slower than the internal, file-based, storage backend.
  29. Link Mauve And can lead to such issues if your SQL server is behaving badly.
  30. ftiede Link Mauve, with about five users and low traffic, well... truth be told, it was ported from ejabberd and i'm unsure whether i want to take the risk to migrate away from sql to internal.
  31. zinid yeah, better migrating back to ejabberd 🙂
  32. ftiede nope. not going to happen.
  33. ftiede i've went for prosody for a reason.
  34. ivucica Hah, not going back to file backend ever
  35. ivucica Also, don't you need SQL storage for mam anyway?
  36. Link Mauve ivucica, no, the internal storage module works fine for that too, as long as you don’t keep your archives too big.
  37. Link Mauve If you want bigger MAM archives, try mod_storage_xmlarchive.
  38. Link Mauve That’s what I use on JabberFR, it works extremely well.
  39. zinid ftiede, for what reason?
  40. ftiede zinid, it worked like hell. that is, it was a constant nuisance to get things, esp. omemo operational and so i went for a different solution. and since i do not host a lot of people or even a lot of traffic, i don't care that much for performance here.
  41. zinid when was that?
  42. ftiede couple of years ago.
  43. zinid not sure what you mean by "worked like hell", but the reason you came to this room is because prosody has shitty errors reporting and here poor SQL support and I'm not that sure what hell is 🙂
  44. ftiede in this exact case: me.
  45. Link Mauve zinid, there’s been a lot of work on errors recently, current versions of Prosody should have almost no such error without text.
  46. Link Mauve ftiede, which version of Prosody are you using?
  47. zinid Link Mauve, I can say the same about ejabberd 🙂 So "couple of years ago" it was pretty much different
  48. Link Mauve zinid, sure.
  49. Link Mauve But some people still use older versions, mostly because their distributions are terrible.
  50. ftiede once i got in the direction of looking at the server, i stumbled across a mention of such behavior with MUCs and SQL backend and remembered an unscheduled SQL restart, coinciding with gajim update.
  51. ftiede once the xmppd was restarted and the accounts logged off and back on, it seems fixed.
  52. zinid Link Mauve, I resurrected and reworked ejabberd after I discovered Conversations 😀
  53. Link Mauve ^^
  54. ftiede Link Mauve, 0.10
  55. Link Mauve ftiede, 0.11 has a totally reworked MUC module, which supports storing rooms to the disk and loading them back, you may want to update for that.
  56. ftiede Link Mauve, i might also be mistaken and be runnung 0.11.2 already ;)
  57. zinid > current versions of Prosody should have almost no such error without text Link Mauve including validation errors in XML? How does prosody handle that?
  58. ftiede Link Mauve, and, indeed, i would not know if i need to modify mod_muc's configuration for that. but that's probably for a different chat...
  59. Link Mauve zinid, no, it only validates what it needs to work.
  60. Link Mauve Ejabberd’s schema is much better.
  61. Link Mauve Ejabberd’s schema thing is much better.
  62. zinid Link Mauve, okay 😀
  63. Link Mauve You know my opinion on validation. :p

  65. new-to-gajim Hello
  66. new-to-gajim Is there a way to set gajim so that I could see when someone is typing? (inside the convesation. something like: XXXX is typing....)
  67. wurstsalat new-to-gajim: yes it is. Which gajim version are you using?
  68. lovetox not in group chats
  69. new-to-gajim wurstsalat gajim 1.1.2. I'm not in a groupchat. 1-1 conversation.
  70. wurstsalat Preferences > Chat > Show chatstate in banner (for example)
  71. new-to-gajim wurstsalat I have no "chat" tab in preferences. I'm using linux, is that an issue?
  72. wurstsalat what's the second tab named?
  73. new-to-gajim notifications
  74. wurstsalat hm, maybe we regrouped that a bit.. I don't have 1.1 around :) one second
  75. new-to-gajim ok
  76. wurstsalat Personal Events > Display chat state notifications
  77. new-to-gajim I have Display chat state notifications = composing only
  78. wurstsalat so you might see a notification when someone is typing a message. but only if the contact sends you those chat state notifications
  79. wurstsalat you see you can disable sending ;)
  80. new-to-gajim but when I talk to this person on pidgin, I see when he's typing. But not on gajim
  81. wurstsalat then I don't know
  82. new-to-gajim I think at the beginning it worked. But something happened that changed it. Not sure what. Maybe adding the gtalk account.
  83. new-to-gajim Is there a manual how to setup google talk in gajim? in pidgin I had to write somewhere, but there is no place for it here when trying to add account
  84. Link Mauve new-to-gajim, Google Talk stopped operating many years ago, I don’t think that’s possible anymore.
  85. new-to-gajim Link Mauve It's working in my pidgin client...
  86. Evert to specify the server (normally not needed) you go to gajim -> accounts --> (your account) --> connection --> hostname; but indeed google talk is on the way out
  87. new-to-gajim Evert Yes, I'm aware. I'm using it in gajim during the transition period
  88. new-to-gajim thanks! I'll check the hostname in connection
  89. Evert also Pidgin has protocol level support for google talk; yes it is kinda xmpp but i vaguely remember there were small differences or so.

  94. raver Hi, is it possible to have the next item automatically selected when a group chat is removed in the group chat management window? it always loses selection and you have to move the mouse aways from the '-' button
