  16. wurstsalat No, for me it works as well

  24. lovetox Thanks wurstsalat
  25. lovetox but you have to delete that database
  26. wurstsalat Okay, thank you for that fix!
  27. topyli i use gajim on gnome. i've set it up with a separate roster window and all chats in one window, in tabs. it works great
  28. topyli the only thing is, the first chat i usually open is one of the MUC rooms i frequently like to check out. but the window is pretty tiny, probably ok for a one-to-one chat
  29. topyli so i resize it and everything's fine. i would like gajim to remember the size of the window i like so that the next day i don't have to go through this terrible effort of resizing the window again
  30. topyli so i'm not sure if it's on the gnome side or on the gajim side, or on the python side or wherever the ball stops
  31. wurstsalat just had a look: maybe you could try to experiment with `msgwin` values in advanced config editor?
  32. topyli yeah i have it, all default. what are you interested in?
  33. bot Daniel Brötzmann updated a merge request for _gajim/master_ < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/merge_requests/389 >: Format OMEMO fingerprint in tooltip
  34. topyli ooh i can set it there?
  35. wurstsalat I don't know, just found them
  36. topyli i'll check it out
  37. topyli no, that doesn't work
  38. topyli mind, i'm using the flatpak. i don't think that should matter though
  39. wurstsalat hm sorry. in KDE I can set dimensions to be forced on every specific window
  40. topyli yeah in kde there are things you cannot in gnome :)
  41. topyli i think gnome gives the control to apps as long as they take advantage of that
  42. topyli i'm still thinking about the flatpak container thing, but really, a window is a window. it shouldn't matter
  43. topyli (maybe it does but it shouldn't)
  44. wurstsalat maybe drop by later to see if anybody knows a definitive answer!
  45. topyli i'll hang around thanks!
  46. topyli ooh another thing. on my fedora box, omemo doesn't work because axolotl is not available. what exactly is wrong with axolotl, from the fedora point of view? is it somehow non-free?
  47. topyli python-axolotl i mean of course
  48. topyli (this is why i'm using the flatpak)
  49. lovetox topyli, you can install it wit pip
  50. lovetox https://pypi.org/project/python-axolotl/
  51. lovetox and about window size, this is a problem probably because you use wayland
  52. lovetox and it does not let us set a size on the window there i believe
  53. lovetox but normally wayland should remember the size of the window
  54. lovetox you can add this as a bug if you want
  55. topyli lovetox, yeah, the axolot thing is not a big thing
  56. topyli lovetox, it's just that i'm not sure if it's a bug with wayland, gnome-shell, gajim, or the python GUI stuff
  57. topyli maybe i'll file a gajim bug and let smarter people do the thinking :)
  58. Link Mauve lovetox, no, Wayland has the client in full control of their buffer size.
  59. topyli also a hat tip for flatpaks, and probably snaps too
  60. Link Mauve It’s position you can’t control.
  61. topyli way to make things "just work"
  62. lovetox topyli, i meant add it as gajim bug
  63. topyli lovetox, yeah i'll do that

  67. topyli https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/issues/9637
  68. topyli ooh i feel like a gajim developer already
  69. topyli hrm, doesn't gitlab have a tag or something for usability bugs? you know, "it's not broken but let's please make it even better"
  70. bot Daniel Brötzmann modified an issue in _gajim_ < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/issues/9637 >: #9637: < Chat window size from last session not honored in new session >
  71. wurstsalat topyli, I added some tags
  72. topyli wurstsalat, oh yes thanks
  73. topyli actually, i seem to remember pidgin doing something like separate windows for private chats and one window for groups. that's obviously out of the scope here but just thinking out loud
  74. wurstsalat you can have one window for 1:1 and one for group chats already
  75. wurstsalat check preferences > General > window behavior
  76. topyli you mean "by type"?
  77. topyli oh yes
  78. topyli thanks
  79. bot Daniel Brötzmann updated a merge request for _gajim/master_ < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/merge_requests/390 >: Update look of Remove account dialog
  80. lovetox Link Mauve, can you run this code please and tell me what it says
  81. lovetox https://paste.gajim.org/view/8e348cdf
  82. Link Mauve lovetox, GdkWaylandDisplay.
  83. lovetox thanks
  84. lovetox as if 2 was not bad enough
  85. lovetox i just found out that there is something called XWayland
  86. lovetox which reports as X11 in my Gtk
  87. lovetox but behaves like wayland
  88. Link Mauve lovetox, it says X11Display when I start it in Xwayland, of course.
  89. Link Mauve lovetox, “behaves”?
  90. Link Mauve Xwayland is a pure Xorg server.
  91. Link Mauve It is just a build option for Xorg even.
  92. lovetox if i try to get the position of the window, it always reports 0, 0
  93. lovetox so not exactly like x11
  94. Link Mauve That’s to be expected, you can’t know your position or set it.
  95. lovetox then its not pure x11 :D
  96. lovetox because i can do that there
  97. Link Mauve But that’s just a tiny part of the security guarantees the compositor provides, you have a lot more which is just washed away by using X11.

  115. fm hi lovetox, as discussed some time ago, I'm creating a bunch of issues for myself right now. as a reminder and to show others whats going on
  116. fm hope that's still ok and not cluttering the issue tracker too much (there are a bunch of issues going to come ;)

  124. lovetox but as you seem quite motivated i assume the issues will not stay open for long :)
  125. fm depends on the time I find to work on it ;)
  126. fm I actually did think about having them all together in one, but as they are different in size, content and need for discussion, i think it makes more sense to have them separate

  144. hannibal lovetox: is it valid to assume that monitors are in a row?
  145. lovetox probably not, but i dont think it matters here
  146. lovetox is it though even possible to make them vertically?
  147. lovetox yeah it is in Windows
  148. lovetox we probably should not depend on it
  149. lovetox but the other solution is not a quick fix
  150. lovetox hm no this also works when the monitors are not horizontal, we only use the screen geometry to look if the screen is smaller than the window we want to draw
  151. lovetox this is already a edge case, probably if someone changes monitor
  152. lovetox we dont use it to determine the position of the window
  153. lovetox yeah looked it up again, this is only used so we dont draw outside of the monitor area .. already an edge case
  154. lovetox no sure how useful it is to invest more time into this
  155. lovetox i had to fix it because it just reported 0, 0 on wayland, which made it totally fail
