Gajim - 2018-10-07

  1. andrey.g Actually, only in the few first there were less presences than the total count of participants. Yes, the connection is slow. But now it will look like as if it were fast :)
  2. andrey.g Thanks for fixing these things!
  3. lovetox i thought about if there is maybe a better way what to request at what point
  4. lovetox i think that we request mam right after a join, does not help the slow connection case
  5. lovetox but what is the alternative, we wait until all mucs are joined (could still take a while) then we request mam, then it can happen that you are joined in a muc and 30 seconds later mam messages start incoming
  6. lovetox maybe we should only request mam for the room if the window is active and you look at it

  9. andrey.g This would be an interesting option. Lazy loading is often a good tradeoff.
  10. lovetox ah thats bad, now i remember
  11. lovetox that way you will not get messages adressed in mucs to you
  12. lovetox because we only load them if you look at the window, and you will not look at the window if there is no new messages ^^
  13. andrey.g Oh, good but not without exceptions then.
  14. lovetox we could do something like, load mam after 30 seconds
  15. andrey.g after the last muc is fully joined
  16. lovetox or that :)
  17. lovetox i will think about it, and talk to other devs
  18. andrey.g Though the connection is slow, it would be still fast enough if these text stanzas would be compressed.
  19. andrey.g And I suspect, almost each stanza comes in a separate packet, which slows down even more.
  20. lovetox on ejabberd yes
  21. lovetox prosody sends more in one packet
  22. andrey.g then I should really switch my main account to some prosody based and test with 25 mucs
  23. galxy hi everyone, I'm a massive user of gajim. I'm wondering if it could be possible to have some kind of "voice message" functionality in the future. Maybe as an extension of the http upload plugin? It would be not extremely necessary because it's much easier to type on a desktop keyboard than it is on a smartphone but I think some people might even enjoy it.. what do you people think?
  24. mrDoctorWho What mass do you have?
  25. galxy negative
  26. concerto galxy: IIRC converse.js is planning to add it
  27. Daniel galxy, there is an issue about one part of this: https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim-plugins/issues/341 Recording is the other part

  30. rom1dep Suggestion for windows users, on this platform, a middle-mouse click on the task bar generally behaves as "create new <> of <>" (new word document, new file explorer window, …). With gajim, is starts a new instance of it (which isn't very helpful). I think it should either show the roster (as lync/skype for business does), or the show the "Start new Conversation" window.
  31. lovetox Oo it cant start a new instance
  32. lovetox you cant run 2 gajim instances beside each other with just a click
  33. lovetox if i do a middle click it brings gajim to the foreground
  34. lovetox do you use a installed version of Gajim?
  35. lovetox i see that if you start via launch.py from source that middle click does nothing
  36. lovetox but on my installed portable version it brings the window to the foreground

  42. asterix Daniel: nice work for pref window, it's way nicer!
  43. Daniel thank you! :)
  44. Daniel well, sophie started that by reworking the contacts dialog in the same way. stacks look nice
  45. rom1dep lovetox: I have a portable version
  46. rom1dep just reproed, yup, I have, like, 4-5 instances runing
  47. rom1dep after which point Windows bein windows complains {WinError 32] The process acnnot access the file because it is being used by another process 'C:\\…\\Gajim\\UserData\\Config

  51. lovetox win7?
  52. rom1dep Win 7 pro
  53. mimi89999 What's the situation with the `messagewindow` branch?
  54. lovetox focus more on it after release of Gajim 1.1
  55. lovetox rom1dep, thats very weird, what happens if you just start the application normally, like double clicking the link in the portable folder
  56. lovetox does this start multiple instances?
  57. rom1dep lovetox: it gladly starts a new instance
  58. lovetox did you modify that link? added cmd line arguments?

  61. rom1dep lovetox: nope
  62. rom1dep nothing too weird
  63. rom1dep when there is a new release, I just keep the userdata folder and delete the rest
  64. lovetox yeah thats good
  65. rom1dep also, this is 1.0.99
  66. lovetox hm never encountered this, it should not be like that, maybe we can see if other windows users also suffer from this

  73. mrDoctorWho hi everyone
  74. mrDoctorWho regarding Gajim on MAC, can anyone suggest how to run it without the X-Server that it requires?
  75. lovetox i dont know what you are talking about
  76. lovetox https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/wikis/help/GajimMacOSX
  77. lovetox there is no mention of X-Server
  78. mrDoctorWho If you try run gajim without the X Server (which provides GUI in linux, bsd and other systems), it'll tell you that X server is a requirement
  79. mrDoctorWho "Gajim needs X server to run. Quiting..."
  80. mrDoctorWho Probably https://www.xquartz.org/ might be a solution
  81. lovetox mrDoctorWho, this string is not in the current codebase
  82. lovetox maybe you run some very old version
  83. mrDoctorWho It's not me, it's my friend
  84. lovetox i ran gajim on a mac yesterday, runs fine
  85. mrDoctorWho good to hear that, I'll encourage my friend to try running it again
  86. lovetox then maybe point him to the wiki page
  87. lovetox if he followed the instructions there, there is no way he could get this message
  88. mrDoctorWho he said he did
  89. mrDoctorWho I've given him those instructions a few days ago
  90. lovetox there are 2 links there, one for old gajim, one for new
  91. lovetox maybe he accidently followed the old ones
  92. mrDoctorWho you are right lovetox, he installed 0.16 from macports
  93. mrDoctorWho I told him to use 1.0
  94. lovetox though that plist stuff does not work, he will have to make a link that starts launch.py
  95. lovetox sadly no macuser yet that had time to do something about it
  96. mrDoctorWho he reports that hotkeys don't seem to work
  97. mrDoctorWho is there anything special about hotkeys in mac?
  98. lovetox hm yes mac specific hotkeys might not work
